Nice routine! I love the replays that this broadcast shows - w/ the nice closeup of her hands as she's doing the 1.5 pirouette (the "Dawes"). It sort-of reminds me of some 1994 "fluff" meet, when Dawes herself was doing the move, & her coach was miked, & you could hear her coach counting "1,2,3,4" as Dawes did the move - & the commentator explained that the coach was counting the hand-placement changes that were supposed to happen.

I wish we got this type of coverage in the U.S.

why it matters that she's black and female I don't know, but well observed, Becky's bars are fabulous! I'm sure GB wouldn't miss another high scorer on this event though!

I was surprised is all. I had seen this girl in the sidelines but not compete, she is very very good. The whole Great Britain Team has really improved, ofcourse Beth is the leader and helps alot but the other girls are good too and helped the Team finish a surprising 6th in prelims at worlds last year.

Becky only turned senior in 2008 so that's probably why you've not seen her used in a big comp before! This year she'll be a force to be reconed with!

Facially, she does remind me quite a bit of Tasha Schwikert! Even the way she walks off the podium reminds me of Schwikert, lol.

Her bars routine & style is a bit reminiscent of both Schwikert and Dawes, too. Although Downie is doing harder combos b/c she's working under a different Code than Dawes or Schwikert did.

Her score could've been even higher had she connected that stalder full to the Ricna, but she was slightly off coming out of that stalder full and did the sensible thing and did an extra giant to correct herself before going for the huge Ricna. Stunning release moves. The GB team has always been strong on bars!
