Wonderfully played, but all from the Grand Orgue. Hardly any subtility of reflection. Just the turbo on it and go! The effect is great, but not grand. Ohers, like Latry's predecessor Louis Vierne, could do this better. And also was the organ in those days not so much 'crying'.
When I visit a Paris church this summer for the music, I don't think it will be Notre Dame.
@middelkoop10 Visit St. Sulpice. Glorious Cavaille-Coll organ NOT compromised as is Notre-Dame's, and wonderful organist in Daniel Roth. You cannot go wrong visiting St. Sulpice! It's always been my favorite tribune to visit since the "big" organists are no longer (Messiaen, Langlais, Dupre).
fantastic to hear!! some textures, rhythms and harmonies seemed to remind me of a piece called "fluorescence" (sadly the name of the composer escapes me) but it's just phenomenal how he plays!!
"This is boring, that is boring.....", please paraphrase this statement, because it's clearly more boring than Latry's paraphrasings and improvisations. I guess there's is one thing you can do with the organ but not do with any other instruments: feeling awed but the sheer size and volume the organ produces. Thanks for this video. Hopefully Latry may improvise during a concert at the Malaysian Phil later.
This is how Catholicism should sound to me: overwhelming, indescribable scope, emotions like skyscrapers, dwarfing the angels, reaching to God. Incredible, thanks for sharing!
Improvisations can rarely be compared to a well-conceived masterwork; that said, improvs afford a musician an opportunity to put something together at the spur of the moment; so it is not apples to oranges; this work is the best effort for a piece off the cuff......
@Crudblud89 Don't ask me...for me it was totally fascinating! :-) and I thought that I should share my joy to everybody but it seems that there are some people who don't appreciate that :-(
He is the best improviser

How could anyone find this boring? Then again, how could anyone find seven minutes to be a long stretch of time?
