  • I just squash them off with my fingers. This year I have invested in a wide length of environmesh which is covering all my winter brassicas, and this has protected them from the cabbage root fly, the cabbage white caterpilars, the pigeons, and hopefully the winter frost, and will also guard against the cabbage aphid, so it's well worth doing.

  • When you say, "the end of the year" for planting shallots, do you mean the end of the 18 mo cycle or the fall like garlic?
