The end sequence can also be seen as a metaphor for Bosnia itself. The country is still laying on a mine even after all these years. Thank god there is a new generation of Serbians that are sick of war too. This movie is one of the best ever. Thanks for the upload!
Sgrad, you should be congratuled for posting up this one and "
El Alamein-Line of Fire". Both show dreadful war is. I am Italian as you are, and maybe I should be writing this in our language, but I guess this will have to do, Besides, I guess it can be more widely read in English . Oh, one final thing: this movie also shows how useless and ridiculous the UN interventions are. For Pete's sake, they can't even understand each other... Well meaning maybe, but perfect asses.
When at Oscars this movie leave behind 'Lagaan' to win best picture award in the foreign language category, as an Indian I was disappointed but after watching this movie I can say that this movie truly deserve to win.
@Rumsi that wasn't what it meant. The overall theme is that big wars happen in the first place by people getting involved in things they have no personal stake in. 2 main characters were neighbors in Banja Luka but then they turned patriot. Sgt Marchand obsessing with saving a stranger at all costs would be the same thing - good intentions, bad results. He said neutrality was taking sides, but found it's really taking your own side. Do-gooders confuse the two and can make things worse.
Damn. I was hoping for a happy ending seeing as how almost lighthearted the whole thing was before this part. War really is hell. Thank you for the upload.
The attrocities that men inflict on each other, makes you wonder why we need a Hell.
A brilliant film. Kudos for uploading.

In the end nothing anyone tried to do made a difference, the soldiers all died anyway and the one on the mine died alone.

It wouldnt make any difference. You wouldnt change anything......
For the one lying on the mine, it would change everything and for the one watching this movie, would also change so many things.
I wont say that it is a great movie, cause it wasnt just a movie, it was/ is real. Thank you for the upload. Everyone shoud watch it for free...

What a sad end, but then again there is no happiness in war. I would just move myself to end my misery.
Thank you for uploading.

Damn, I hate this end. I really don't care what would happend with the guy on the mine. Just let the mine explode so there's an ending...
kwak1234 1 year ago
@kwak1234 Marchand calls his superior "Deus Ex Machina" when he arrives. You should look up the definition.
