I chose the Ram Mount suction Cup for my GoPro hero 2 and it works great. I travelled over 180km/h with the mount on the bonnet of my car. Rocksolid pictures :-)
@PointOfViewCameras Hi, I really like your reviews man! Very nice video! Could you please make a video when you show how the suction cup mount works when you try to mount it on a motorcycle helmet? Please take a look at this message and think about it! :) Best Regards
Hey, how well do you think the RAM mount would do outside a car at high speeds. I know the GoPro one is meant for that. Also maybe the RAM mount would perform better on a snowboard than the Gopro?
@jordon2k10 I think it would depend how big your camera is, if it was the size of a Flip, your laughing! No the mount wont fit on a motor cross helmet, it has to be a flat surface.
I've got the gopro suction mount. It has fallen off 3 test spots already at the office. Smooth spots. I can't trust it. Now I've got to buy a tether for it.
@Madwand1 Panavise or RAM ?What kind of surface? Did you try a window? or metal?Try it on your car, it should hold until you decide to take it off. If you are trying it on wood or a rough surface you may have problems.
@PointOfViewCameras Gopro suction mount. I tried it on two different counter tops. Just sitting there. After about 5 minutes, it fell over. Also had it on a painted door frame, it fell off within a minute. I think that one was painted coarsely. The counters were smooth.
@Madwand1 Thoroughly clean the surface before you mount the suction cup. I believe it says it in the instructions too, an item is only as strong as it's weakest point, and if some sort of debris is taking up surface area of the cup, then it's going to be unstable.
@Guitarplayer219 Yes, it was clean. Why are fanboys so resistant to the idea that this thing doesn't stick that well to most surfaces? Sure it works great on glass and shiny metal, and even smooth plastic. But that's all. It won't stick on anything else with a matte or semi-gloss finish. Which is what most household surfaces are. Just be careful with it and test the surface you're going to use at a spot close to the floor so when it falls, it doesn't break anything.
@Madwand1 Well I'm not sure most suction cups stick to a paint. I wanted to use this on my car, but after seeing all the accidents that happen, I'm not sure I want my $299.99 camera flying off into the drainage ditch and being lost forever.
@Madwand1 Yeah, but if it is tethered, and it falls off my car, it's going to scratch the hell out of the roof as I slow down, and then the paint job will cost more than the camera replacement.. Haha Best just to film inside my car I suppose.
Having tried your RAM Suction Mount in 2x car windscreens and placed it on 3x motorbikes I'd have to say it seems alot more flexible than the GoPro one and it seems to stick in more places - firmly! I only hope it remains stuck when I ride my bikes! Good ting about RAM mounts is the sheer flexibility they offer - bit like lego, you can build your own! Do you sell the handlebar base ball on it's own rather than with the hole handlebar mount kit?
Excellent review, RAM mount looks very interesting! I have an audio problem whenever I record using my GoPro on suction mount. Picks up slightest vibration noises where ever mounted in-car or motorbike = spoils audio everytime!! Would have liked this to have been discussed on this review, IE is bad audio from suction mount normal?
I think the vibration sound can be fixed quite easily if you use the " doohicky" the little rubber stopper that you fit in the quick release area. If you are already using it... then the only other solution is to try a different suction cup mount. I never have this problem inside or outside of the vehicle. Let me know if this helps!
@PointOfViewCameras I've just bought your RAM Suction Mount and did a quick test in my car. My rattles have been to do with a rattling shutter button not a rattling clip mount.. This audio with your RAM Mount shows crackling in the audio! I'm really fed up with my GoPro's audio! RAM Mount is great by the way!
so this mount is good for drifting because their isn't that high of speeds BUT what concurs me is the high level of friction and vibration do you think that would make the mount fall off just as easy as high speeds
@2026820 I dont think it would fall off, if you use the ram mount on a windshield... it's pretty much locked in. Just to be on the safe side, tie a pice of heavy fishing line to the rig for the first run. That will ease you into trusting the mount. Worked for me:)
@PointOfViewCameras how is it on other surfaces such as the roof and fender? can you only mount it on smooth surfaces or on things like the corner of the fender?
@xXBurntBaconXx yeah is has to be smooth for sure, but a roof or the side of the door, whatever is smooth and solid it will hold it's own. Very solid mount if you use it right, takes a little while to trust it. Just make sure you give it a good tug before you use it, if it hold's strong from yanking on it, you should be good to go.
thanks!

does the suction cup work for skiing helmets?

@JulianTanner1 it's made for non-impact sports, but it would work. you'd just need to keep an eye on it cuz it might get knocked off

@shaboobal1 Would have to be a fat ski, you would want to get a little fishing line to back it up for the first few times:)

@glenandgibbert Flat. I have tried several slightly curved surfaces with very sketchy results. Keep it flat or you risk damaging your camera.
