I scuba dive and have never heard of DIR so i looked it up, but all anyone says is a hollistic way of scuba diving, and basically says its about being safe, like dont dive alone, dont use sharp or rusted clips, dont go to deep. But this just sounds like being safe/common sense to me. how is it a style? im not trying to be rude or anything, im genuinly curious.

Dir is a style of diving copied from Canadian cave divers I believe and it's basically about diving as safe as possible. Dir divers will most of the time have all the same equipment and every piece of equipment is selected to be as safe and useful as possible. its basically technical diving techniques modified to be useful for fun diving.. I don't really know how to put it more clear than I am..

@whatitischief -- It's about being safe in EXTREME locations: great depths, caves, etc.

For example: in DIR you use Rule of Thirds for air management. 1/3 going 2/3 returning 3/3 for emergencies. In Recreational diving you don't do this, safe air management usually means, turning the dive at half empty and being on the surface with a few hundred left.

So "being safe" is relative. The safety skills you need at 50ft are different that at 350ft.

This fellow at the end of the video can also be cleary seen to be promoting a poor diet. one should NOT eat smarties/drink based stimulants before undertaking such dangerous activities. a sugar rush is to greatly avoided. diving is 'not an extreme sport' in the same way that boxing is good for your brain. please more care for your health.
