EXCUSE ME???? Both Eddie and Alex Van Halen are very accomplished classically trained pianists from their youth! Eddie just transitioned all that early experience and talent to the guitar as he got older. As evidence of Eddie's ability, witness him playing the piano throughout Right Now - also written by him.

You definately need a portamento for this song, so the sound slides from note to note without the use of the glider. Im not too sure if new synths these days have portamentos. eddie van halen wrote that song on his Oberheim OB8

Yes it is a standard patch, number 171, its called "classic sync". When I tried it, I knew which song to use to take it for a ride.

Thanks for the comment, you know that voicing is an un-edited, pre-programed setting on the X-station. As I was exploring the various voices right outa the box, I stumbled on this setting and thought "oh this is Van Halen", and proceded to learn this song. I like this little unit, its very cool and flexible.

Nice Video. I like the sync on this as much as the Yamaha AN1x, which pulled off great sync sounds. I'm considering one of these, but I'm wondering: can you treat the headphones/monitor as inserts/busses for external effects? How is the latency?

This thing is loaded with effects that have an incredible amount of flexibility. For me, it is hard to imagine using an external device unless it is something really out of the ordinary. For more, I would look for the users manual on-line at the Novation website. thanks for your comment.
