  • One of the best videos I have seen on You tube. The production was Cinematic, Entertaining, and Informative. Yes, this could have been just a how to, but it was that and so much more. You can sleep in a tent or a palace, and these videos were a palace. Thank you!

  • this was a beautiful video, reverently produced. I really enjoyed watching all three parts. I felt I learned a lot about the incredible labor of love of lost wax process. Thank you for putting this on the web.

  • Hey, what kinda wax did she use? it looks like it would be alot of fun to play around with!

  • excelent documental video!!!

  • The dislike was an error. This was well done.

  • Thank you, it was an amazing experience :-)

  • i can't believe you still have hair after this.

  • Great Art, great Artist, great documentary. Really impressive! I just wonder what such a piece of art would cost ...

  • girlfriend has got skills! impressive.

  • can i make a new frame for my gun doing this c:

  • This is an excellent primer for those interested in the process.

  • WAKE UP SWAN!!!!

  • that is beautiful

  • great video, great artwork. I mean awe-inspiring artwork.

    Thanks!

  • awesome video educational but not boring

  • This trilogy of video's is simply awe inspiring. The artist hit a spot somewhere deep inside me that made me feel so suddenly aware of how fragile we all are. There is something very spiritual about watching sheer brilliance at work. Whoever filmed the video is also simply marvelous.

  • thanks for the tutorial moonbeam, it was really helpful!

  • This technique of lost wax is so fascinating and complex. It must be thrilling to perform all these steps and end up with the finished product conform to what one envisioned initially. Bravo for this video production.

  • Great stuff, beautiful and concise documentation of the process - definitely makes it easy to understand (and hopefully apply!). Here's to sculpture!

  • Great stuff, especially good for trying to wrap my head around how I want to make something!

  • amazingly beautiful

  • As funny as the power tools seemed, the end result is really impressive!

  • a little artsy, but it's nice the way you changed the focus away from the recipe and the object more to the art and traditions that make a skill. once upon a time everyday people cared about details. even electrical parts from the 20's and 30's had ornate aspects to their shape, and now its all about how cheap and temporary can we make it? nothing we make is meant to last, so humans are losing their past and hope for the future, thanks for keeping a trade alive in a real sense.

  • @dekonfrost7 Thanks, dekonfrost. Our intent in making it (over 20 years ago), was to communicate much of what you took away from it.

  • i really enjoyed this you brought it alive , im an artist myself

  • beautiful, beautiful, beautiful in every way. thank you

  • amazing transition from concept to completion, inspiring

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Skill and elegance. I'm casting aluminum and watching your presentation... I feel like a hack now hahaha. bronze seems to be a different ball game. I tried to cast iron and almost melted the vinyl of my house... So AL it is ;). Happy New Year, and the best wishes for great ideas, health, and success with your art! And keep those presentations coming ;).

  • Working with metal and castings i loved this video. Makes me think and wonder how the first metal workers were truly artists and instills a pride in craftsmanship into this type of art. Thank you for this.

  • Oh Yes You Must Offer A sacrifice,Bring us your first born please,P-LZZZZZZZZZZZZZ give me a Freakin break how about it!!!!!. :-)

  • That was brilliant, thanks so much for sharing :)

  • Everything about this three-part video was excellence, personified. The setting was beautifully established, the theme reverently given, the plan was offered with well-thought-out insight, and the work performed represented obviously a labor of love from the heart and soul of both Alan and Katherine. Having worked with metals myself, although certainly limited in the artistic sense, I am convinced I could duplicate everything that was shown/taught/prescribed/honored/demonstrated in this work.

  • Ptologic8

Thank you for the thoughtful comments. I'll pass them along to Katherine.

    Best regards,

    Alan

  • As a retired tool and die maker who performed all of my machining and hand finishing, I think that I can appreciate the skill and hard work shown here more than the casual viewer.

It was obvious from the start that I was looking at the very practiced hands and body movement of a true artisan.

  • Very nice editing! I make videos myself and loved the way the video showed the seamless connection between art and technique--well made!

  • Thank you, 2020abcd

  • WOW - thank you so much for posting this

it was very inspirational and in unexpected ways. especially the poetic ending , which made me value the importance of my/our - changing emotions- which is , after all, inspiration

this documented was well written and narated and the selection of design was, well

    very well fitting !

    i give you an award

  • I've passed your kind comments on to Katherine. Thanks.

  • I love how she started so delicate and ended doing the heavy job parts, all by herself....

  • GOOD VID

  • very very very good work i am interested that field can we collaborate together i hope so

  • Thank you, ReplicaChile. I will pass your comment on to the artist, Katherine Michaels.

  • pass mine on too, also PS, big kudos to the actual work and design, i can understand this since i work in jewelry a bit.- it was all utterly impressive

  • beautifull.

  • Oh and did I mention how stupid it is to not wear gloves when using power tools.

  • one must be careful with some tools the gloves can get caught and compromise dexterity- one has to know what is wisest for each tool

  • Right gloves for the right job. Grinders you use tighter fitting gloves. When using a drill press then of course no gloves are allowed. Welding uses heavy duty heat resistant gloves.

  • Real retarded to not wear safety glasses

  • very nice work, i am thinking of taking my animation to Bronze pieces, this has settled it for me, thank you to the director

    and yourself . peace

  • Very interesting way of presenting this method as an art. I knew it was used for bronze sculptures -I've seen many videos, but the overal details in this video make it, truly, worth watching.

    Ast

  • Thank you for posting I enjoyed watching you create that wonderful piece. How long did it take to make the entire piece?

  • It took Katherine about a month.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow! I've always been fascinated by this technique. Ahonick, that was incredible thank you so much! Its good enough to be a documentary (PBS at least!! haha!)

    Thank you so much,

I've love to hear from you!

  • Thanks, Shadow CPU. It was on a local PBS station (KCTS Seattle).

  • This is the finest, most informative video on the lost wax process. The camerawork is superb and it is very pleasant to watch. Thank you for providing this incredible piece.

  • perfetto/perfekt/perfect

  • Thank you, huninuk, for your kind comments. I will pass them on to the artist.

  • Thank you Madam\Sir for this nice work... Almost the same happens in dental technology.

    I really love this work.

  • Excelent video great work of art, but unlike part one and two, download of part three was extremely slow. Does it have something to do with how the video was shoot?

  • Thanks for the kind comments. Don't know why download of part three was slow -- encoding for all parts is identical. Probably just network congestion somewhere along the line.

  • Extraordinary, now that's what I call THE REAL WORK OF ART! BRAVO!
