And I read your description, and I guess I can give a little bit of feedback.

Try using the "Bump map" FX (if you use Vegas). When a window pops up when you chose the Bump map FX, move the little circle with the red cross over to the red cross. Then make sure, in the side with the scrollers, the "bump map" scroller is all the way to 0. Fix the intesity if it is too bright, and mess around with the scrollers a little :) I always use bump map on my videos, so they would look a bit more appealing.
