I read Sam Harris' article and I have to confess I'm a little dissapointed. Almost every criticism he makes of Palin can also be applied to Obama. I don't think it's a stretch, to say that your average politician (while possibly gaff prone and greedy) would be above 100 IQ.

This was a stat I heard, that I unfortunately don't have the source for. However, I'm almost certain that the average IQ of a college student is 1 standard deviation above the mean. So compared to IQ scores in the general population, 1 in 6 probably isn't that far off from reality.

2ndly. If you're not talking purely IQ, I don't think it's a stretch that in a sample of the entire US population, that you'd find politicians to be significantly better at key factors for success. I mean if you're a career civil servant (Cheney, Rumsfeld) you probably are a good multi-tasker, project manager or have a solid policy background. If you're coming from outside, then you're probably a gifted communicator, orator or are gifted inter-personally.

Again. I never said that she was dumber than the average American. When you're sampling a pool of politicians like these they're likely above average. However, from what we've seen of her already, she's totally unqualified for the VP position. It has been a huge disaster every time she has given an interview.

I read Sam Harris' article and I have to confess I'm a little dissapointed. Almost every criticism he makes of Palin can also be applied to Obama. Like most atheists I would love to see a candidate that doesn't profess belief in the supernatural, I hope someday that will happen. He criticizes (rightly so) the nuttiness of her religious sect, but watching Obama's preacher is at least as bad (in fact worse in many ways). This election is between tweedle-dum & tweedle-dee. It sucks.

I'll say this. I think John McCain's selfish act in choosing this woman to be his VP running mate is an act of extreme recklessness. The thought that a woman of such (lack of) aptitude could be our president makes me both angry at John Mccain and sad at how low the once great soldier has stooped.
