I saw the Page & Plant tour twice in Cleveland, The first time Robert sang Rock & Roll like he did in "Song Remains the Same", but the second time he sang it like the record. I was absolutely shocked when the first line came over the speakers! He sounded great, maybe even better than here.
@sandi739 yep! too cute.. i don't care if he was bald and painted gold to look like the oscar statue --- he's still the worlds best guitar player...period. at that level he can have whatever haircut he wants... nobody @ that concert cares a hoot about his hair
If yall would like to see another example of these AWESOME Rio rock audiences, check out Rush in Rio on u tube .XYZ in particular.I have never seen anything even close to the Brazilian kids enthususiasm at concerts.Even if you don't like Rush,it is worth checking out just for that)
The reason RObert has not sung his whole career this high is not because he couldn't but because he has had vocal issues that even put him in the hospital for surgery in the early 70's. Since then he has gone balls out while he has been sick, while he has a hoarse throat, and while his vocal chords were inflamed. This combination led to the late 80's Robert we were suprised to hear. Not to mention he stopped training his vocals to do this after Led Zeppelin broke up.
for some seconds Robert, Jimmy and Charlie payed their respect to Michael, by turning towards him - being silent, admiring his hard work, just LOVE this
Impressive/impressionante! Plant is singing high like he used to in the early 70's. He doesn't usually sing such high pitches any more. The crowd must have really inspired him to go all out.
Plant is singing a surprisingly high pitch for this point in his life. By the 90's, he didn't usually sing notes as high as the opening line of this song.
I was there, his hair is just wet - this is the last song and this was a hot tropical summer night in Rio. Not only the hair became wet, his shirt became completely wet as well, they took a small break for this last song, changed his shirt, combed the hair and this is it.
At the Live Aid thing Robert could hardly sing this at all, but here he does a decent job and can at least sing the main verses OK. He has a bash at the highest bits as well, and although his voice breaks up into falsetto, it's overall still cool.
Its wrong to Knock other drummers just because they cannot play like the late great John "Henry" Bonham, no drummer can and never will match his style & persono, he was and still is the very best ultimate brummer the world has known
it WAS Phil Collins on drums at live aid turd brain sorry i mean come at least get your facts straight then we can discuss this great band like gentemen

My god. Has anybody ever heard him sing the song this way after 1973? He nailed it! It was like The Australian tour they did back in the day.

Just love to see Michael Lee in action here -
his arms are flying over the drums with the speed of a huming bird, what a great drummer!

In the late 70's, not just high, I'd say they were drunk! But they still kicked ass in the later years.

Too bad this song gets over-played in commercials. Why cant they leave masterpieces be?

Yes, the drummer can´t compare with John Bonham (few can ).
I went to Rock in Rio 2 at the Maracana Stadium because Robert Plant and his band were squeduled to play there.
Robert ended up canceling his appearance.
We had to content ourselves with Billy Idol (urrghh) and Guns n´Roses, who actually did a really good show.
I wasn´t able to go to this show.
Thank you, brspled.

Where was that drummer during Live Aid? He filled Bonham's shoes alot better than Tony Thompson and Phil Collins.
scglrmtdpbdc 5 years ago
Bonham only used one crash? What size was it? When was this? When he was 12,maybe?
Oh,and I'll bet he played A.Zildjians all the time,and never had a gong or timpani's either,right?
I think it is YOU that needs to do some fact checking!
