Back in the day this game was the shit...The perfect day was spending 2 hours seeing a movie then going to Nathan's Arcade and playing this game for another 2 hours then capping it off with several ulcer inducing hot dogs. I'd go home partially deaf from the arcade and wanting to puke from the dogs but it was Great!
I'll never forget when I played the sit-down version of this game at the county fair many many years ago. The force was with me that night, as I played the game off one quarter for nearly an hour. A crowd actually started forming, as everyone was amazed at how perfect my game was, lol. If I remember correctly, I finally just gave up and let it kill me because I wanted to go see the rest of the fair. I never played it that well again, though. :)
I remember this game. I played this a lot. It took me over a year to master it but I finally got over a million points and reached every level. In fact I got so good I was invited by several people to contact Atari and even the Guiness Book of Records. Reason? To achieve my million plus points, I played one game, on one quarter for 8 straight hours without a break.
HA HA HA! Thats awesome....really brings back some great memories.....lol...I really l just realized the X-Wing Fighter is in reverse as it pulls away from the exploding Death Star......classic!
There was a broken SW sit-down cabinet outside an arcade in Paignton Devon UK (Penny Arcade) which was there for months & months, was never rescued sadly.
i've never found a pc version of this, except for a demo mode version which doesnt allow user participation, beyond just pressing the space bar for firing.
jeez i remember playing the sit down version when i was really small. must have been around 1985 when i was 5 years old. could have been before actually
wow, classic many memories of this game, music to my ears, should have done it on Medium to see the bars in tunnel. spent many hours in arcade on this game, Tempest and Tron
So...when Obi-Wan said, "Use the force, Luke" that was an instruction not to fire your lasers until you got to the thermal exhaust port, for an extra bonus score? *Now* you tell me!
I was 7 in 83 this was my fav game for years, finally in 1997 I bought one from a carnival guy who said it didnt work for 50 bucks, My father in law tinkered with it and got it to work, I used it for 4 years untill my wife decided it had to go.......I miss it sooo much ughh oh well.
when i was junior high school student, i used to play this so much at game center "Beatles" in shizuoka japan ! the wire frame was very high tech i feel at that time !
You had to be living in this era to truly appreciate this game. I don't doubt younger people loving the movie or seeing the coolness of this game. But you had to be living in the moment...when Star Wars was still fresh...and graphics like this...and voice in games...were amazing. There hasn't been a game since that made me feel way this game has when it finally came your turn to climb into the console and play this classic.
You betcha! I was 19 in '83 when this game came out (right after Return Of The Jedi was first released). We didn't have home video then, and these graphics & sound effects were awesome. I spent a ton of quarters on this game. I used to love dodging the obstacles in the trench, shooting Darth Vader and the tops off the towers. May The Force Be With You.
The explosion of the Death Star is so awesome but also tended to shorten the life of the arcade game. It is rare to see these old color vector games working anymore, let alone in excellent condition. You have a very nice machine there.
I used to confuse my friend by yelling at him to "use the force" like it says at the top of the screen. He would try to figure out where the "Force" button was on the control panel and loose shields.
This was my all time favorite arcade game of the 80s !!!

God I love this game. Seems like it was one of the Very first FPS style Flight simulator? Atleast with this much graphic ability.

Man, I loved this game. It had to be the cabinet version, though, with everyone crowded around watching. You were the real arcade hero :)

EASY?! Only pussies play SW on easy. You can blow up the death star on easy playing blindfolded.
crazylevipinball 2 years ago
To be fair, didn't playing on easy mean your game would last a couple of levels longer. 20p was a lotta cash in those days :)

lol the game music sounds like it came from pokemon yellow version
