tillis only made one mistake here , cost him the fight , was winning round 4 by a mile till the off balance knockdown cost him the round , buster must have watched this blueprint fight of ''how to beat iron mike tyson''.
why did eating raw eggs have a negative effect on Tillis' endurance? Where do you get your information from. I'm not saying you're wrong, I am just curious.
@celticbanner18 Tillis had developed a medical condition with allergies towards dairy products and orange juice among other things - this wasn't discovered until the preperation for the Tyson fight. His whole diet was worked out in a new way - this is why his match weight was lower when he came into the fight and why he didn't fade like he had done in several previous fights. Also the reason most regard him as the winner of this bout - he lay out the blueprint for beating Tyson.
If you analyze the official scoring, if Tyson had not stepped on Tillis' foot and scored a flash, meaningless knockdown in the 4th, the fight would have been ruled a draw. Whenever Tyson met up with somebody he couldn't intimidate, he lost. Tyson was a "great" fighter who never really won a fight; he won walkovers. Whenever his opponent fought back with determination, Iron Mike lost. Each and every time!
At 4:58 - 5:05 you can see why is Mike Iron Tyson one of greatest fighters in the world, with such weight having such flexibility is incredible. All that are honest must acknowledge this.
1st, the knock down was legit. He did not step on Tillis' foot. Watch in freeze frame. Tillis jumps in with a dumb left hook, goes off ballance and Tyson makes him pay. You can see when Tyson lands his hook Tillis' feet are wide apart, Tyson's feet are closer and no where near Tillis' feet. And how do you think it would have been a draw? When they read the cards they didn't read scores. The announcer said 6 rounds to 4 twice and one judge had it 8 rounds to 2. No where NEAR a draw... lol...
Dear bloodgutsnglory, the reason I said the fight would have been a draw without Tyson scoring that meaningless knockdown is because the 4th round would have gone to Tillis otherwise. Those two six rounds to four votes for Tyson would have become two scores of five rounds each and the fight would have been a draw!
other guys were determined until they realized they couldnt make him dance to their music.Tillis rounds he won were extremely close and all could have gone to tyson.Tillis didnt have any big rounds and in a rematch tyson would stop tillis.Tucker fought back and barely won 3 rounds.Douglas got a hold of a flat bad tyson that night and holyfield fought a shell of what tyson was.focused form 86-88 that when he should have been tested
Yes, Tyson was a great fighter- as long as he was fighting people who were afraid of him. Check out the Quick Tillis fight (Tillis was a very poor man's version of Ali) and you will see how venerable Tyson would be against Ali. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would ever compare Tillis with Ali and yet he damn near beat a prime Tyson.
both these guys nvr fought at their prime agewise..25-28. cuz of jail and suspensions. I luv Mike, but I gotta say Ali w/foot movement and smarts would not let him self get hit w/Tyson power shots. Mike would prolly get a KD on Ali like Frazier did , Muhammed would outpoint the man for the entire fight. Keyword=JAB!!
Yea but Ali would still have to be careful man. Because Frazier knocked him down and even beat Ali. Tyson is stronger and faster and more powerful than Frazier, but I do think Frazier's head movement was better. Not to say Tyson's head movement is bad because it was good to. And Frazier's defeat to Ali today would be seen as a TKO not a KO because he quit. But yea I do see Ali beating Tyson but he wouldn't just Steam roll all over him don't be bias about it. Frazier was able to touch him.
You're questioning Foreman because of Lyle? lyle was a bomb thrower. Funny how you don't question Tyson because of Douglas.
Oh yeah, you said we are only supposed judge Tyson by two years of his career...well what if we didn't judge Foreman by anything post-Ali, after all Foreman said he wasn't the same after the Ali lost lol.
You see most fighters are judged by their entire career, if we wanted we could come up with excuses for alot of guys.
watch 4:57.SHows why tyson was unbeatable from 86 to 88. Tillis tried to throw combinations and wasn't afraid and this tyson easily bobbed and weaved away from the combination. Something he stopped doing in 1989.
tillis was in the best shape of his life and fought the best ever in his life against a 19 yr old who simply outpointed a crafty boxer and tillis fought AS WELL AS douglas did against tyson.goes to show you how much different tyson was from 86-88 then he became after firing rooney and training less then 3 weeks for fights 1 yr apart instead of the usual 3 months.
Ali never lost to Jimmy Young and his only loss to Norton was with a broken jaw after rd 1where he still went the distance, something Tyson would never be able to do.
the majority fight fans and ringsiders said young won the fight.Who cares what a subjective judges who were blinded by the ali mystique jusdged it.he lost on most peoples cards. He did nothing to beat young and tyson 1988 would Ko that ali in 4 as easily as he ko'd holmes.
88 Tyson KO of 76 ALi is like saying 67 Ali would slap a 97 Tyson. So What!
76 Ali hadn't ben out of the ring for 3 years like the 88 Holmes and still had alot more bounce in his legs than the sideways walking Holmes did in 88,
and Aii was always naturally faster with his hands at any stage of his carrer than Holmes if he got desperate.
Ali was NEVER KOd,( Counted out or stoped in the ring)
Not aswering the bell for rd 11 vs prime Holmes at 39 after 2 years retirment means shit.
You don't know that. He kept fighting as long as he could when he tore his ACL in the ring we all know how painful that would be. So cant say that for sure.
when he followed the damto technniques, trained 7 days a week ,fought every 3 months, bobbed his head for 12 rounds, went to the body consistantly, didnt head hunt, threw those short 10 inch punches, threw those magnificent 3,4,5, punnch combinations, rooney yelling the number system to him, threw that deadly double left,he was basically unbeatable.Only foreman was the guy to stop this 86-88 level tyson.but that's also questionable based on foremans performance against Lyle.
He fights best at his lightest weight. He could have been so great had he stayed in shape for his career. Tillis has great feet and hands kind of reminds me of a Muhammad Ali. He just lacked the endurance to stay in shape, 210 tops is best for him and he fights tremendously great at that weight.
yes quick tillis fights just like ali but he had a problem with his stamina due to eating a lot of raw eggs. He was a fantastic boxer. i wish he would have stayed with dundee.
He was also the most determined in his career for this fight. Mentally did not want to lose by Knockout. Should have stayed in shape we would have seen allot more great of Tillis had he done that.

@nemanjaarsic1 I totally agree with what your saying, People get lost in Mike's street life ( not to good ) and punish him for it all the time.
He was a outstanding fighter that would give ANY heavy boxer a run for there money.

Are you shitting? There should be something to be frightened of, right? So mike must have frightened people so that they were afraid of him.

@celticbanner18 lol. he gave Tyson trouble, but didn't come close to beating Tyson. It does show however that Ali would have beaten him.

Okay so Tillis was in the best shape of his life vs a 19 year old Tyson.
Mike was chap at 20 soit's not that bif of a difference especially when Tyson fans show tons of higlights of Mike at 19 beating bums.
So yes Mike got better than he was here but Ali in his prime was 50 times better than Tillis was here as well.
Then Mike after the experience of this bout still didn't destory Tucker.
88 Tyson would still not KO a prime Ali in early rds and therfore Ali would begin to own his ass in rd 4.

ali lost to jimmy young and norton and tillis vs tyson was at least as good as those guys were that night. so,there it is.

Ali never lost to Jimmy Young and his only loss to Norton was with a broken jaw after rd 1where he still went the distance, something Tyson would never be able to do.
Ali was not in his prime in either fight.
They were both in the 70s.
