  • Such a unique sound - it lives forever, brilliant guitars. Just wish they were in the studio now

  • We are all souls in isolation - but I'm alive in here!!! Chameleons made music that lasts forever. Play it loud, as the Chameleons told us to do, a long time ago. And as cortinadave1 and me (46 now) do NOW!

  • @Sevenseasdreamer

    Hi friend,

    great comment!

    Ingo, 46, too.....

  • The Chameleons are one of the most underrated bands of the eighties and however one of the most influential!

  • Smithies and Fielding on guitar ... Pure Genious !

Thanks for sharing this outstanding song.

    *10*/Fav

  • THIS IS LIKE FINDING GOLD! NAH, THIS IS BETTER THAN GOLD, GOD, SEX... WELL.. you get the idea.

  • I love this song. But very morose - Brandon

  • One of the best Bands here...

  • A very underrated group. excellent psychedelic guitar sound. the first 3 albums full fly away. 100% this is my sound. Greetings from Russia

  • Just amazing, how could this band never become really big? On the other hand, had they done so they probably would have become like U2, in other words, just mediocre. However, this band if any band would have deserved more world-wide attention than they received.

  • We love this song!

  • Morrissey knows that this is the true heart. He can only look on in awe. B you've made me fly.

  • so many years later, this song is still the greatest track !!!

  • love that wolf howl @1:30

  • This is good stuff.xD.

  • one of the uks great un sung heroes of the music industry , such a great track such a great band , they deserved (and still do ) better recognition for there foooking great contribution to music !!!! thanks for posting !!!

  • America needs more chameleons

  • @kuruantigenic So does Manchester

  • I have seen these guys performing last month, it was pure magic and happiness <3

  • favolosa...

  • These guys were not as obscure as you might think in the 80's.We definitely listened to them in my house when I was growing up.They were never as big as the Damned or the Cure or Siouxsie a.t.b., but plenty of people knew who they were.As I recall, they never did music videos, so they didn't get any exposure from MTV, but they were by no means unheard of.

  • Incredible record! It's a shame the Chameleons didn't achieve greater success in this country (America) when this album came out. America is and always has been the land of musical taste of the lowest common denominator. Simplistic sugary pop, white trash rock, inane rap dominate American charts. For an European band or any band for that matter to make it here they must "dumb down" their sound and lyrics.

  • awesome new wave post punk very beautiful

  • Wow this brings back memories from the 80's. I wore the grooves out on this record way back when. They should have been huge in the US but as always America with it's bad taste was not ready. Why do so many great band come from the UK?

  • this song and tears are just plain bad ass!

  • We're all souls in Isolation....but united by our love and appreciation for the Chams !!!! Discovered you in the early 80's at Uni....never saw you as the Chams but did see the "Sun and the Moon" [later incarnation of the Chams - or was it a variation - not too sure] in the mid-80's in London....My fav songs...this, Monkeyland, Swamp Thing, Tears.....many more but these four are like the building blocks of a so richly underated musical Colossus.......More joy to the converted VIVA CHAMS!!!

  • Fucking beautiful as all Chameleons songs are

  • An epic song, From my favorite album by them. If the Tony Fletcher EP would have been a full album it would have surpassed this greatness.

I even like Dear Dead Days which was the original seed of this song.

  • @membear You are so right mate re the Tony Fletcher EP - have got that on vinyl - it's absolutely stunning, 4 songs of absolute searing beauty.

God, I fucking love The Chameleons - timeless masterpieces.

  • PAJAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • What a fantastic tune.!!!What a decade such great bands, today is just a freakish nightmare!!!!

  • Una gozada...¡¡ The Chameleons FOR EVER !!

  • when i snicker at the half-assed alt-hipster-indie bullshit that passes for music these days, this is what i am comparing it to. real and haunting, not the same cheesy rehashed shit played into a mirror.

  • fuck this shit

  • i think this is why i always like the 80's, music was so raw, tragic, nothing like it really. who needs drugs when you can listen to music like this? i get high off the cure, joy division, the chameleons and other bands of this greatness!

  • this shit is fucking amazing.... ahh im tripping

  • wow, what a song!

  • This song has gotten me through the sad, the dark, the good ... I have nothing but love for this song. Thanks Mark and the Lad's !!

  • Great, great song. Beautiful. I've been singing it to myself all night.

  • Great band !

    Thanks for the post.

  • AND sorry the chameleons is post punk no tiene nada que ver con otras bandas!

  • U2 must be grateful.

  • Strong music.

  • One of my favorite albums by The Chameleons, and this song is great. Thanks!

  • hey

    i want this album

can you send me it please???

  • I happened to know them around 1989... Which was already too late. But I eventually saw them live in late 2001.

  • album art reminds me of The Wall

  • @Ambulanceo most of their album art is by their guitarist Reg Smithies, influenced by Salvador Dali

  • Pero que musica hacian estas maquinas del riitmo

  • top band awesome music loved em since the mid 80,s still blast em today , the wife thinks im mad , but such a group , shame they didnt go on to the big lights , but if they did maybe they wouldnt be as good ???i dont know im rammbling lol, cracking group top track !!! thanks for posting

  • Wife thinks I'm mad too. 45, bald, sensible job, young family but have just spent the journey home belting out all the Chameleons tracks on the ipod/car thing full volume singing my head off !! Great band - saw them once at the Marquee in the eighties - one of the best parts of my life. I think they really had something. And I keep coming back to them after nearly thirty years !!!

  • @cortinadave1 I know what you mean, I was a bit too young but got into the Clubs regardless ;) that played Punk, early Brit New Wave, Industrial ,Gothic, Have played many styles of music since then but that Sound has come back again yea ! The style is there somewhat today but no moshing surfing from this crowd...just no fun ;)

All those that love this music help me find an Investor for my next Club. I still go mad to this"Gathering Dust" Modern English To those Great Days Cheers !

  • @cortinadave1 Good on you, Man. Fight for your mind! :)

  • @cortinadave1

Same here!!!!!! Cann't be helped......the biggest tradgey is that they never got the credit the really deserved.

  • @cortinadave1 STAY MAD man... they did have the rare presence to make you feel the music was crafted just for you! Stay Calm and Rock on!!

  • @cortinadave1 Rock on, brother! You're keeping the spirit alive! :)

  • What a great song! I could fallen in love every time i hear it!

  • wow, forgot how intense this song was

  • iss so jep ;O)

    lachen im knasst .

  • Great band and great song, one of the best of the 80's. Nothing similar with The Killers, The Chameleons are a cult band, more similar to Television (Tom Verlaine).

  • no, nadie lo puede afirmar porque el tío que ha dicho eso es un completo hablador

  • The Killers? I can't say I'm a big fan but I can respect other people's tastes. However, the similarity doesn't seem particularly obvious, could someone who does see a connection suggest a Killers' song that bears some resemblance to a Chameleons one?

  • theres no conenection , as far as i know , the chameleons made amazing tunes , killers are nothing at all ,mark burgesses lyrics have depth meaning poetry , do you rekon ?

  • @withlaserson I would suggest listening to In Answer by the Chameleons and especially around 2.52, somehow this makes me think of the Killers.

  • why compare.take it as it is.

  • Last song. Last album. Epic. One of those songs that can make you cry.

  • This song is like having your body crushed like an empty tin can. Devastating lyrics, drums of thunder, Burgess singing with so much rawness there's blood dripping off his vocals, the guitar hums the tunes of a non-accessible ethereal land, and emotions flow over you like a suffocating mudslide. One of the best songs of the 80's easily,

  • Wow, beautiful description, and accurate.

  • maravilloso!!!!

  • @truthemulator bloody well said!!! damn...i totally know what you mean...this is my second fav song after Second Skin...but it is hard to pick as so many of theirs as great...many many great memories when i listen to them...got into them in the late '80's

  • @truthemulator

Totally agree....one of the best songs fo the 80 s

  • @truthemulator damn! you said it the best! spot on...this is one my fav songs by them too

  • @truthemulator

No more drugs for this man!

  • @TheEnglishViking1 read the classics you bonehead!

  • @truthemulator Totally agree!!.. great sensitive perception!. congratulations!!

  • how do the Killers name get brought up so much in comments for Chameleons songs?

the killers are fucking awful.... but their music does move me.... to the toilets to SHIT ALL OVER THEIR FANS!

  • you're right, The Killers pale in comparison with The Chameleons, if anything The Chameleons are much more similar to The Smiths

  • Comment removed

  • i played twice with mark burgess in aberdeen and the all time fav was roslin,,,,,aldo loanhead

  • I had this album back in the 80's and played it over and over for days...it got so bad my upstairs neighbor started yelling through the floor to give it a rest...

  • I actually like the killers but, as a purist, there can be no comparing them to the Chameleons.

  • Thank you for posting this music. It's beautiful.

  • The Chameleons,The Church,The Comsat angels all deserved a greater success.

  • @weirdsvillelife Aye to that !

  • with what it trims ... I do not know how I did not discover it any more early .. this one in the wave of the the smiths, the sound, the danse society .. very good same ... (sorry about my english ..)

  • Yes.... What a song... Not heard this for years... Thanks for the tune.

  • Best of all, the battery

  • Yes i love the drums too

  • love this song

  • the chameleons are a great and underrated band just like the comsat angels and the sound, why none of these bands got the success they deserved is baffling.

  • If you think all musicians want to be big and famous, you are a sad soul.

  • a sad soul in Isolation most likely!!!

  • this song is absolutely beautiful. Especially the screaming at the end.

  • yes, I think they have just become my favourite band of all...

  • i was turned on to this band by my ex while we were in college in 1985...........

i will forever be thankful to him........ their music is

    A M A Z I N G ! ! !

  • The Chameleons are so awesome. And I love the cover art. Anyone know who the artist is?

  • One of their guitarists, Reg.

  • Strange Times is a Post-Punk Rock Opera: The Hippies had "Tommy," GenXer's Have the Chameleons and we got the better deal.

  • My second favorite Chameleons song only behind "Monkeyland". I totally regret not knowing this band exsisted back in my 80's. Thank god I at least discovered them in the late 90's.

  • I didnt know them in the 80s either. I only found out because a nightclub I went to kept playing "Swamp Thing" over and over in the late 90s.

  • I didn't know them in the 80s or even 90s. I was vaguely familiar with the name - The Chameleons. I just discovered their music around 10 minutes ago! This is really surprising because I listen to such a wide range of music and I am a fan of even the most obscure of 1980s music. Anyway, better late than never.

  • @LeftHandOfDarkness

I was 14 in 1986.....this band and many others (Smiths, etc.) summed up the angst of that age and that time so well.

If you like this you'd love "Eyeless in Gaza" and "the Stranglers."

  • seen em twice in the states as The Chameleons NY and LA which was Mark Burgess and a contingent of great musicians from the respective cities.

    Just a masterpiece

  • @ejm999 I feel the same way. Where were they on my 80s playlist? Is this song on the "Bonus CD" because I can't find it in any local stores on the standard Chameleons releases...

  • This song is so excellent...I fell in love with my boyfriend at the time because he introduced me to the Chameleons. Classic. Thank you for posting this song!

  • "Second Skin" is my favorite song

  • What a great fucking song, does anybody have the song Nostalgia by them? that might just be my favorite song
