  • Very helpful indeed. Do you shoot in RAW format and then convert to JPG in Lightroom, or do you shoot initially as High Res JPEG?

  • So can you make something up, that goes over how to work out a price, how to know costs of the day, prints etc... for this would be very important, so one knows not to over quote, or to under quote and not make money.

  • @1stBEASTMASTER I have done a video on pricing generally - it really depends on your local market, your skills and what you offer. NO point charging $5000 if you cannot deliver stunning results - likewise charging $500 for a full day is a waste of your time.

  • Matt, can you go over in a video, on when your talking to a couple, how to talk to them about size photos and prints and canvases etc... For i think for a newbie like me wanting to get into weddings, working out prices on prints, frames, how many photos they will get, if any canvases, plus the cost for the days shoot alittle daunting.

  • I just finished watching the 4 part series and am about to watch the other 2. The series is informative. I have shot 12 weddings so far and I have another 8 booked plus 2 bridals this year. I love shooting weddings and agree with you that it is hard work and a lot of hours. I am now thinking of doing my own wedding series thanks to you. I would love to see a portraiture series both for an individual and families if you have the opportunity. Thanks and I am subscribing to your channel now.

  • @dfyffe1 cheers

  • Hey just finished watching all your vids on shooting a wedding.. I am shooting my first wedding in July of this year.. I am still a beginner and am very nervous about it! Your videos has helped me be a a little more relaxed about it. Thank you so much for these videos! They helped me!! =] and btw i thought you looked badass in the "swat" vest! haha

  • do you include photo album in your package? or photo book? or your client would do it their own?

  • @odnanref1100 depends on the package

  • Can you comment - - in the editing process in Lightroom are you viewing/editing a jpeg or raw file. I currently do not have Lightroom but it appears to be more intuitive to use vs Photoshop. BTW your delivery and style are very appealing.

  • @nazmen040 than you for the comment. I shoot raw, and yes lightroom is very user friendly - and cheap!

  • Hi

Great set of tutorials I am doing my second wedding next month and one problem I'm having when I did some test shots at the venue is metering for the brides dress against a bright stain glass window I'm either getting the bride and blowing the window out or I'm getting the window nicely exposed but the bride is too dark . What metering mode do u think is best for this ?? I'm using 5d mkii and I can use flash with a softbox if needed ?? Thx for the videos they really helped !!

  • definitely interested in both concert and portrait series... I'm new to Lightroom and would appreciate a series on editing. Please keep in mind that I'm a RAW virgin and need all the help I can get. Thanks Matt

  • @naiils cool - check out the playlists - I have done concerts :) And if you look for 'ugly people' series - that is portraiture tips.

  • Really great series so far, Matt. I would love to see more like this! I have yet to check your channel but I'm hoping especially that I find the portrait series when I get there

  • @youtubisntavocation there is a very basic one called - how to shoot ugly people :) ALso did concerts

  • Matt, do you color calibrate your laptop screen so that your prints match what you edit them to be in Lightroom?

  • good job man

  • Not sure if I miss it but did you shoot raw on these?

  • @vajtswvtsim yes, I always shoot raw for commercial work.

  • Hi thanks for getting back but what I meant was do you let the camera focus for you like on auto focus or do you focus the camera manually yourself to take the pictures.I understand that you use aperture priority but what do you think is it's better to let the camera autofocus for you or for us to do it manually zoom in and out on the subject. This might be a stupid question. If you could help I would appreciate it a lot thanks mate....

  • @colxdark I use AF

  • Hey can you tell me to you normally shoot in auto exposure mode or do you shoot in manual mode thanks.Good work KEEP IT UP.

  • @colxdark Hi mate - explaining how to shoot in manual is a long story!

But for record, I generally use aperture priority for a wedding.

  • Matt thanks for the video great to see people share their way of shooting a wedding.

  • hi nkionguy, great video series it really helped me a lot, i was wondering what you use to print photos and what you would suggest to someone whos just starting in the photography buisness for making prints, thanks

  • @PonyWillliams glad you like the series.

I use a pro print lab to do my printing.

  • I must say, knowing exactly what you are doing, and how much time and effort this would all take, i full well know just how much time and effort went into this mini series. Video like this are already hard to make for youtube, let alone all the steps you need to take being a photographer, i do appreciate that another fellow photographer has taken to time to help the noobs out.

    P.s You aussie? :D

    Cheers

  • @TehHelpStation thanks mate, nice to hear. Yes, aussie, Sydney.

  • @thatnikonguy Yep, us aussie are the best hey ;) ahaha, keep up the vids! :D

  • Hi Matt. Killer video!

Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

  • @amireliakim Always Raw.

  • Great one.. I would really like to see that editing and shooting settings video.

Would be also nice to know, if u could only take 2 lens, which would you take??

  • @augustomet that video is up. Only two lenses...I'd take 50mm. F1.4 & 24~70 mm. f2.8

  • Concert and portrait videos would be great. Maybe also extending wedding series by discussing approaching pros to be a second shooter

  • @dah7772 sure, will do.

  • Thanks once again taking your time out to do these videos can't wait for the settings video I'm looking to get inti portrait and portfolio work as in models hair styles and make artists Any advice on this is grateful thanks again

  • @ThePhotographybysimo I am including one hair shot in that video. My advice for that work is keep it simple, eliminate all distractions other than what you want people to see.

  • @meijerinkfotografie Great to hear - good luck with it.

  • Thanks for making these videos Matt - they've been very insightful. Its really useful to see the full workflow of shooting wedding. These videos have been extremely useful to me.

I've been interested in photography for a long time and eventually saved up enough for my first DSLR a few months ago. Your videos have helped me a lot, I appreciate the time you put into making them and the knowledge you have shared. Keep them coming!

  • @SR3ID91 Thanks for the comment - great to hear. Appreciate hearing that it has been helpful.

  • On additional series, my personal preference would be concerts as my kids have a few this school year.

BTW have you considered more photo community stuff in sydney similar to Chase jarvis. He has had good success with it here in seattle.

  • @devwag Great - will look at concerts this month. I have two on so far.

  • Big fan of your videos esp humour. Thanks for helping with additional part for settings choice. In software, we use patterns for common problems so I assume there are some common rules for these settings. e.g your 1/100 shutter rule in strobist part 1 was very helpful.

  • @devwag Thanks - nice to hear. Not everyone likes the humour!
