@BoilingBlood24 I agree with you, and I also like your name. You seem pretty damn sharp, much sharper than me probably. My brain is half-fish already. Hahaha. I am an Anarchist fool, a half-dead dreamer slowly losing his mind. I'd love to chat with you, unless you work for the television. I hope I don't seem like an obtrusive kiss-ass, I'm eager to learn something.
There should be a satiric cartoon about the brain-washed baby-boomers of the States who believe they live in the free world. Yeah, free for cut throat enterprise maybe. The government of my beloved country is irreversably corrupt; congress is like a septic tank, and the six foot long tape worms swimming around are the congressmen. Hahaha. In the words of the great Marshall Mathers, "Fuck the free world..." and the people who make you think it's free. If this comment makes me look stupid, I am.
@Niffiwan I don't believe so...it was just in Russian. However, most of the movies and stuff they showed were in English...even the Ducktales cartoons.
@Niffiwan Thank you for putting this on youtube and others.
It's quite different from what I grew up with. Thundercats, starblazers, GI joe, He-Man and the masters of the universe, and Transformers was on TV. No real lessons or anything thought provoking with those shows for a child. Fortunately my mom would kick us out of the house to go outside and play if she thought we were watching too much TV.
This reminds me very much of the short stories of Gogol -- the humor/satire reminds me very much of "The Nose" in particular. Thank you for the translation and subtitles!
nice history and beautiful animation, these sovietic, and basically east europe had a fascinating notion of animation. could somebody explain me why? thanks for the uploads niffiwan
Well the artists weren't restricted to "things that would sell" and after the soviets got tired of social realism a lot of experimentation with styles took place. It's funny how the system that was labeled authoritarian actually gave much more freedom in artistic expression compared to the West.
I think I can relate to this film, in the sense that what happen in it seems somehow to happen all around me to people.
It's even worse that, as a viewer, the only I can do is stop the film, but it's too beautifullly animated !
I already loved The tree and the cat enough to talk about it to my friends. All these men who worked on russian animation are great. Your work Niffiwan is incredible! I'm jealous, I'd love to have the same access to all this that you have. The best I have is Jove's DVDs
this really shows the mental position of a lot of people in eastren block, who just didn't protest, because it was easier to shut up and march. They got food and TV. Who cares about human rights?
Like any good fable, this one can be applied to many situations. I think that it would be best for us to focus on how and where it applies in our daily lives today; what's past is past, but today many of us are as oblivious to what is happening as is that man.
I dont really understand your question... I was born in free Czechoslovakia, three years after Velvet Revolution, in 1992. But my parents lived in eastern block for a long time so I know pretty much of that age and people who lived in it. And you say you dont recognize me... how could you recognize me???
An absolute gem of a film animated by two very big names in Russian animation, Kovalyov and Tatarsky. I have watched it many times and will watch it again and again.
