@MrKeg1234 ha, thanks, isn't it nice when we all get along :)
I've removed my rude comment from earlier.
Still would like to see your family's work on bowtops if you have any pics or vids (no I'm not being sarcastic I'm quite serious , I always enjoy a good lech over some vardos!)
ok arumdevil im no moron as you put it im just against all these fake vardos about the place ,im not saying you did a bad job infact you seem fairly good its just making it on a trailer chassis why ? my familys been building vardos and wagons for longer than anyone can remmber ,all im saying is why dont people do things right instead of taking an idea then doing it wrong in eyes anyway ,i see so many hippy idiots messing up these its un real and gives us a bad name, try a real wagon/vardo next
@MrKeg1234 ok thanks for your clear response despite my rather harsh reply to you as you said. I'm sorry for calling you a moron, a bit harsh perhaps but I was a bit pissed off with your comment, perhaps you can understand why: I spent a good deal of time and effort building this thing. For you to come on here and basically slag it off outright without any balanced view is just rude.
So it may not have been done they way you would do it, but who are you to tell other people what and how to do?
... variety is the spice of life so they say. You don't have to like everything, but that doesn't make what you don't like wrong. People are different, the things they do are different. If you don't like that - well you'd better not venture out of your wagon in case you see things you don't like ;) I have calmed down now so all this is in good spirit, I'm just trying to get you to see this from another perspective. As for try a real wagon next - well I have something totally different...(cont)
on the cards. I am definitely open to building the next one on a dray, in fact this one is built in such a way that it could be taken off the trailer and put on a dray at some point in the future. Whether that will ever happen is another matter, but it was built with that possibility in mind. I don't have horses (yet), so for me being able to move it with a car was essential. I did a lot of research before I started but ultimately I had to build it to meet my needs. it may not be ... (cont)
... traditional, but it's based on the traditional designs and if nothing more it helps to keep interest up in a subject that is dying out compared to what it once was. I don't think our interests differ massively here. I love the traditional designs, I think they're beautiful (hence why I didn't do the elaborate decorations - I didn't feel I could do it justice) and very practical for what they are. As i said I just had to adjust things to fit my needs. Thanks for looking. I'd love to see ...
@MrKeg1234 what are you talking about??? you can't steal an idea. I saw a Bowtop wagon on ebay and decided to make one, what's wrong with that? and FYI the vast majority of traditional bow-top caravans were made by master wainwrights, not romany gipsies themselves.
Respond to this video... It's based on a traditional gypsy design, if that's what you mean, which have always been built by master craftsmen waignwrights.
If you live in the wagon, do you not have a regular house, and what kind of regulations do you have to worry about for taxes and such, addresses and whatnot? I don't know how it is there, but here in the US even if you live in a trailer or RV you still have to have some kind of permanent address. I would dearly love to live and travel in an old-fashioned gypsy caravan like that.
@Nyghtshade409 yeah I have it parked at my mother's place in the garden at the moment. "have to have some kind of address" is a subjective statement (admittedly that's a somewhat controversial viewpoint) but if you really want to live like that and not pay taxes etc you are within your constitutional rights to do so. So long as you known those rights well you would be fine. The problem is those in power of your country are eroding and repealing those rights.
@arumdevil Those actions are in fact unlawful and treasonous (we have similar things going on here in the UK and Europe), but the reality comes down to how they are enforced - potentially with armed force. Anyway I digress somewhat.
@arumdevil I didn't intend to bring up a controversial viewpoint-I had been told that even if I was going to live in an rv or something and travel, I was legally required to have a permanent address of some sort, even just a PO box, for taxes and whatever else to be sent to.
Also, if you're constantly traveling, what is your main source of income?
Very neat! Do you camp in it? You might consider putting a dutch door in the back--that way you could open the top half of the door for a "window" effect! You'd probably want to hang a screen against insects.
Really good job! Cool as can be!!! It's a covered wagon on steroids! I am impressed!
@876234ABC Thanks for your comments. I live in it! well more or less but I haven't finished a kitchen yet, but it has a wood burning stove in it now. I do plan to do a door like you say - split 4 ways top and bottom but it's not happened yet. Also a 'bay window' at the back. The white door is temporary.
@arumdevil I'd love to see a video of the inside and the additional improvements you make to the thing. It really is amazing. You should be very proud!
lush mate. proper job. i fancy doing this to my trailer, it will turn out a lot bigger than the horsedrawn one i use to have, looks really spacious inside. is there issues with how fast you can tow it with a motor though?
@MsMickeyness yes it's not aerodynamic at all so there is a lot of drag. If you have enough weight in your tow vehicle you can tow at legal speed limit no problem.
how long did the project take you? and how did you mark out the curve of the front and back circles? planning on making one this summer if money allows. ta :)
@fluffy1696 All together including refurbing the trailer it took about 2 months - the second month was full time. It's still not finished though, still got to put in kitchen and proper window/door. Have a look on canvascaravans there's a blog on there that shows the whole process. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions...
great deal of work, and nothing is original, not even original sin. some people think they own all rights to creativity. thanks for this
