  • Flynn is like 26

  • no, rapunzel's 18, and flynn's like 20

  • Gothel is an incredible villain since she doesn't have much power in the setting, comparing to those king, queen, politic, rich villains...Gothel only has power over Rapunzel as her mother and kinda witch, but not much...

  • aww i love when the young rapunzel sings! its soo cute! ;)

  • It is disturbing to see how Gothel refers to Rapunzel as 'flower' and how she mainly touches her hair instead of her body. There are some really well-thought out things in this movie.

    Disney is back!

  • @PianoWheatley Wow! I never even noticed that!

  • My favorite Disney villains.

    1. Scar

    2. Davy Jones

    3. Gothel

    4. Gaston

    5. Nizam

  • @pottyaboutpotter1 Who's Nizam?

  • @Katingaan The Villain from Prince of Persia

  • @pottyaboutpotter1 Where is Jafar?

  • I love how you hear the backwards aging when Gothel sings.

  • I don't really enjoy Disney's princess series(not even when I was a little girl), but Tangled is a beautiful exception. It is pure awesome.

  • you know... i have a feeling that may have been a little boys voice singing young Rapunzel... they usually do that since.. well yeah

  • Isnt Flynn like 24? and Repunzel is 17? how did the get married?!

  • @Rachelwolfy246 rapunzel is 18 by the end of the movie.

  • @Rachelwolfy246 You have to keep in mind that this was common back then. Back in Medevial Times, it was common for girls to get married at 16 or 17, and to wayyy older guys.

  • @Rachelwolfy246 Rapunzel turns 18! ^.^

  • pls like my comment thx

  • Did anyone think about how since Rapunzel grew up in the tower, Mother Gothel taught her how to read, write, play guitar e.c.t. Got to thank her for that, she could have totally neglected those things.

  • @17caria

That's called Enrichment. Smart captors make sure that their captives are happy. Why make them miserable to the point where they want to leave? Doing simple stuff and making a big deal as tokens of love are all part of intelligent manipulation. It's like giving a hamster wheel for your hamster---it keeps them happy and makes them love you. If you watch the movie again, Gothel gives her only three books to read from and they're of the harmless kind. Manipulation.

  • @Alchemist1330 totally agree, plus he tries to burn down a hous with a family inside and tries to kill Phebus!

  • It's so cool how whenever Gothel sings the song her voice ages back with her.

  • not sure how sympathetic I feel towards Gothel but I think one of the reasons that she's such an effective villain is that she does keep Rapunzel (and to a point, the audience) off balance. She's a master manipulator who is very careful to know exactly how others work while keeping how she works secret.

  • Alright, you get the gist: she sings to it, and turns young. Creepy, right?

  • Does anyone have this without the singing people?

  • I get all teary eyed when baby rapunzel sings, so freaking cute!!!

  • Rapunzel is the first disney princess with green eyes. I just love that at the ending she was green eyed brunette. God I'm so happy that I am too :D

  • @cronera13 Esmeralda was a heroine who had green eyes, but i guess she isn't a princess. But green eyes are my all time favorite (not that lily potter had anything to do with that).

  • @cronera13 Oops...never mind. I guess Belle wasn't a princess but she WAS the heroine.

  • Rapunzel's voice's cute!!!

  • Delaney Rose Stein was the voice of Rapunzel as a child.

  • 1:18 - Watched this with one of my friends, a 23-year-old guy. At this point, he said, "'Kay, now I'm gonna cry."

  • @AniRemi LOL boys also have the right to cry on movies LOLOL

  • She's pretty excellent. I always wondered though if she actually only cared about the flower, or for Rapunzel as well, just a little bit.

Disney kind of skipped around that.

  • Did anyone notice Tangled is only the second Disney movie to show a pregnant woman? The first was Pacha's wife Chicha in The Emperor's New Groove. XD

  • press 5 ^.^

  • has anybody ever wondered whats up with gothel? yes shes an epic character, but is she a witch? it said she is, but.... did she ever do anything... witchy? no. she sings the weird song thingy, but thats repunzels power, not hers, and the flower came from the sun, not her. she doesnt fly or anything to get to repunzels tower, she uses a trap door. when she dissapears in the reprise to mother knows best, she just threw up smoke and hid a little bit away. Is She A Witch?

  • @Candy101851

In the original story she is, but i think in this she's more of a bitter old woman who wants to remain young forever and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it.

  • Gothel is awesome, but I like the Disney villains in general. Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove) is my all time favourite. :D

  • @PaprikaXD

'I'll turn him into a bug, then i'll put that bug in a box, then put that box in another box, and then mail it to myself. then, when it arrives, I'LL SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!

    or! to save on postage..."

one of the most fantastic rants ever!

  • @theawesomeperson12 its brilliant brilliant brilliant genius i say ha!!!!!! or to save on postage i'll poison him with THIS... i love that part

  • SHE SOUNDS SOOO CUTE!

  • AWWWWW Rapunzel's voice is soooooo cute at 1:03!!!!!!

  • I'm so sad! Because when I watch the movie, the beginning has so much more music to it that they left of the soundtrack. Why would they do that? I love all of the music, not just pieces. :(

  • lol before the young Rupanzel sings, i always think something bad's gonna happen because of the music :P

  • @AllyandAnt In fact the princess is kidnapped

  • I love how the song changes from minor to major when Rapunzel sings it.

    Ah, youth.

  • @goobergallery ahh I noticed that too! so cool and love the symbolic contrast... wow can you tell I'm doing english/theatre homework?

  • @MsChocolateMoose Haha, totally understandable. I had to finish Hamlet over spring break so I feel you

  • freaking adorable when rapunzel as a little girl sings it

  • I just love how her voice changes as her age does :)

  • @AleishaMusic I always thought that it was just me who noticed that!

  • 1:38 gives me chills every time-- it just sounds so amazing!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I am so in love with this film's soundtrack right now. <3

  • Wasn't Delaney Rose Stein the voice for a juvenile Rapunzel like I think?

  • that was my mother... wanted to keep me closeted and safe, hardly ever let me do anything alone, then when i was older she was more my friend then mother, which made me growing up harder. wanted me to always be her baby boy and when i tried to move i was disowned and manipulated into coming back... but i finally had someone who helped me "see the light"

i love my mother and wish her every happiness.

    sad...

  • I must agree with most of you. if it were not for Gothels greed for youth and beauty she could have been a genuine good person. she did love repunzel as her own daughter if it werent for wanting to hoard her powers. it is a ratherconfusing story between her greed and the question of a mothers love.

  • Awwwww.....Wittle Wapunzel is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!!!!

  • I love little rapunzel's voice (:

  • 0:34 - 0:44 best part....-3

  • I do think Gothel loved Rapunzel in her own way. (The voice actress herself even said so in an interview). Even in the beginning, she was only gonna try to steal the baby's hair and when that didn't work, she got desperate. She was gonna travel three days to bring her a shell for her birthday. But, ppl do crazy things when they know they're about to die. But it seems that if she wasn't so caught up in preserving her life and youth, she would've been a fun, cool mom. How heartbreaking. :(

  • It's an interesting debate. In the original fairy tale, Gothel did care about Rapunzel (there was no flower, she stole Rapunzel from peasants because she wanted a child to love). She locked away Rapunzel but still loved her and was angry and cruel to Rapunzel only once Rapunzel decided to escape.

This version of Gothel can be interpreted either way. I think Gothel may have genuine affection for Rapunzel but were it not for her hair, she would've abandoned Rapunzel long ago.

  • Okay, you get it - She sings to the flower, she turns young, creepy right? xD <3

  • "Why can't I go outside?" ...."The outside world is a dangerous place, filled with horrible and selfish people. You must stay here where you're safe. Do you understand flower?"..... "Yes mommy" :(

  • I have to disagree, whatever love Gothel could have felt died a long time ago when she first got the flower. As we saw, if she were cruel, Rapunzel would have run away or fought years ago. Gothel is creepy because there are some misguided parents who use extreme fear tactics in order to condition certain behaviors.

I think Gothel cared for Rapunzel but never got too close because ultimately, she was a means to an end.

  • Every time I watch this scene I start crying when Rapunzel is singing and asks why she can't go outside... She kind of "stole" her childhood... :(

  • @fobulousConZt Gothel and Rapunzel are kind of similar to The Hunch Back of Notre Dam. Frollo's never let Quasi go outside and always convince him how the world is cruel and unpleasant just like Gothel does to Rapunzel :( But I think Quasi got worst 'cause he's disformed and was like locked in the temple for 20 years(according to Disney's storyline)

  • @lalbenatan They are many similarities between the their relationships, but Frollo was far more stern and less affectionate to Quasimodo. You could tell it was more a master/servant relationship. But, it's pretty cool how you're comparing it to other Disney movies. :)

  • 1. Its like Hunch Back of Notre Dam because Frollo and Gothel contain Quazi and Rapanzel by saying the world is "cruel and selfish."

    2. Flyn is a street rat like Aladdin is- Flyn steals things for a living. And then he meats a princess (whom he doesnt realize is a princess) and then he falls in love with her.

    3. Maximus is like many different disney horses, like pegiseus from hercules, or the horse on Mulan.

    4. Rapunzel isnt aloud to go outside, just like Ariel isnt aloud to leave the ocean

  • @bethany92596 ah.. very true :)

  • Gothel reminds me of Ursula. She has two minions and the style of her songs are very similar to Ursula's.

  • AWWWWW little Rapunzel is soooooooo cute!!!!!!!

  • Wouldn't you be so freak out if the woman you loved and trusted turned out not to even be your mother? at the end why didn't she say somthing like she'd cut her hair or somthing when she found out. gothel would of stoped in her tracks than. +flynn wouldn't have been hurt

  • I don't know why, but whenever I hear the chords at 0:53-1:03, in this and in the Tear Heals, I hear someone saying Gothel's name, almost like it's Death warning her he's coming for her...

  • The way gothel Decieves Rupunzel makes her even more dangerous. i totally agree with swanpride, there is nothing more dangerous than someone who tries to control your life under the pretense of loving you.

  • gothel is an amazing character she is a villian she scares me in the good way best villian disney has created

  • What was creepy was that Gothel must have loved Rapunzel. But the greed and vanity inside of her won over love in the end. She was a hollow creature.

  • I love how different Rapunzel and Gothels' versions of the incantation are.. Gothel's all foreboding and eerie, while Rapunzel's sweeter and with more uplifting feel.

  • She was a very good villain though no disney villian has even come close to touching Frollo. He murders a woman then trieds to drown her baby, but once forced to take care of him, locks him forever into a catherdral then makes him his slave, and when he does escape he lets him be tortured. Also he wants to rape the person who saves him and he burns down a city, shoves a wagon full of gypsy women and children into a river, and the list goes on. I don't know why people even say others are worse

  • @Alchemist1330 You are SO right about all of that, I really don't think there are any other villains as bad as him.

  • @Alchemist1330 It seems the villains with no magic are the most powerful and deadly ones.

  • @Alchemist1330 Damn straight dude

  • @Alchemist1330 that is so fucking true.

  • @Alchemist1330 Maleficent curses a baby, abuses elderly fairies invokes the power of hell, and turns into a dragon.

  • @Alchemist1330 Alright so for down right viciousness Frollo definitely falls in the top spots but my favorite will always be Ursula because she never lied. She told Ariel the entire what's what and got her with the contract in the end. Heh, not even Triton could destroy the legality of the contract. Lol.

  • @Alchemist1330

Ooh, thank you so much for saying that-- Hunchback is my all-time favorite Disney film. Hands-down. And Frollo is most DEFINITELY the best villain. He's just so. . *Shudders* and Tony Jay's voice was just the icing on a delightfully evil cake.

(Though, my FAVORITE villain is probably Dr. Facilier, but he's not a BETTER villain in any sense of the word.)

  • @Fmafreak I'm so happy that the hunchback of notre dame is your favorite disney film it is my by far as well. it is a masterpeice, from the freaduian symbolisim of the gargoleys being quasi motto's ego, id, and, super ego, to the themes of love vs lust. The hunch back of notre dame is the bladerunner, 2001 or pulp fiction or shawshank redeption of disney films

  • @Alchemist1330 That's a Disney film that is way underrated!

  • @Fmafreak

My fav Disney villain is Davy Jones, because the reason he's evil is because his heart was broken by his one true love. But if we're looking for an animated villain, I'd say it's Frollo because he's just a world-class douche. He kills an innocent woman, tries to drown her baby, keeps him locked in a bell tower for god knows how many years, sings about eternal damnation, burns people's houses down, offers freedom for sex, commits countless murders, and still claims he's a good man.

  • @Alchemist1330 whos frollo?

  • @violet1197 the villian of Hunchback of Notre Dame

  • @Alchemist1330 i completely agree with u but what I think what makes Mother Gothel one of the worst Disney villians, if not the worst, is the fact that there is much more of a mother-daughter relationship between her and Repunzel, and despite having taken care of her for the last 17 years, she still has no affection for her; while Frollo does the same, there didnt seem to be much contact between them

  • @Alchemist1330 Oh, so that's why I have never liked "The Hunchback of Notre Dom." Haven't seen it since I was five. And you're right; out of all the Disney villains that I can remember Frollo is just, well, EVIL! Not even Maleficent reaches his level.

  • @Alchemist1330 Frollo is a TRUE villain in the fact that he did not believe what he was doing was wrong. I've had this discussion many a time with friends. They can never fight it lol

  • Is it just me or does little Rapunzel sound like a very little boy?

  • @Tookyrlolipop

Little Rapunzel was played by a 5 year old girl named Delaney Rose Stein

  • I love this song ..

  • Baby Rapunzel voice at 1:04 oh my god I die every time I hear it, so precious :')

  • @katiedid1023 same! she sounds so cute!

  • To me, she is a cross between Hades, Malificent, and Ursula. She got all the good villian traits XD

  • @XennaXDemyx Agreed.

  • @XennaXDemyx Don't forget Frollo!

  • Anyone know what the song is when Flynn and his goons steal the crown, like when they're jumping on the roof of the castle?

  • Please Disney. Don't ever leave me again. :( YOU CAN'T

  • HURRAAAAAYYYYY DISNEY IS BACK.

  • Once upon a time... Walt Disney Animation Studios made a new classic. And it was called Tangled

  • Mother Gothel seemed to be very loving towards Rapunzel in a strange way, but if you think about it it was probably done purely out of manipulation. She had no qualms about being the bad guy but it's easier to control something when it's happy.

  • ok so...I saw this movie yesterday and absolutely loved it, but I was late to see it and missed part of the beginning. I came in at Gothel trying to steal Rapunzel's hair and kidnapping her. I saw the flower briefly and don't know how Rapunzel ended up getting the flower's powers. Anyone want to fill me in? ^^ please.

  • @Mikadia SPOILERS FOR OTHERS. The flower actually was kind of kept hidden by Gothel to heal herself, then the Queen, Rapunzel's mum, was sick while being pregnant with Rapunzel at that time, so the palace guards found the flower and it was used as a medicine to heal the Queen, so Rapunzel got the power when she was born

  • @Mikadia cuz her mom drunk the flower's juice or wat ever to heal her.. and thats how rapunzel got her hair and power.. cuz of the flower?.. yep thats it..

  • BB RAPUNZEL OMGGGGG

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW RAPUNZEL'S LIL GURL VOICE IS ADORABLE!

  • I find it funny y'all are arguing over whether are not Gothel is a sympathetic villain, because when I saw this in theatres last night, my boyfriend and I started to argue over the same thing. He said she was through and through bitch, and I said she was doing bad things but inside did habour at least a bit of love for Rapunzel.

  • Well, the villain character in here is just "mild", it's Disney movie, you know. In all villains, i think Jafar (from Aladdin) is bit of more serious than the rest; but still, in reality, evil people is much nastier. Anyway it's PG rate, so expect everything more subtle, guys.

  • @SwornReaper I agree with your opinion of Jafar, but I also think that Scar from The Lion King was another nasty villian too.

  • Why is the prolouge so far down in the numbers?

  • Omg, Rapunzel as a child was soooo cute! Her signing was adorable, too.

  • In the beginning Flynn said, "this is the story of the day I died!" lol. More like poor Gothel. I think that maybe she deserved to live. She was just a pitiful outcast who wanted to be young. And at least she's not as hate-able as that annoying mean Lion scar or whatever.

  • @katandann U got his name right, but I'll have to disagree Gothel seemed to have some pure evilness inside of her even as a lonely old outcast. But I accept your opinion too:D

  • best all-round Disney villain EVARRRRR!

  • You know what puzzles me, that they didn't make this track longer. When Flynn says: 'And it starts with the sun. Now, Once upon a time, a single drop of sunshine fell from the sky.' you hear this pretty music. It sucks that that isn't included :(

  • @xRedheadgirl I agree. I was expecting it t have that too :(

  • rapunzel baby voice singing is so cute

  • It's so eerie to listen to her voice change in the beginning-- I love it.

Gothel is perhaps one of the best villains that Disney has ever created.

She must have loved Rapunzel, raising her and all, but her greed was definitely stronger-- she's an obvious villain from start to finish (stealing a baby, duh), but then she has so many layers to her that you cannot help but love the character, whether you are one to like the villain or not.

  • @AquaticFerret I agree...she is less sadistic than Malefiz, less sarkastic than Skar and less vicious than most of the others, but her kind of evilniss strucks so close home, it's simply creepy. What's more dangerous than someone who tries to control your life under the pretense of loving you?

  • @swanpride I think the thing about her that scared me the most is that she really seemed so realistic... She had no magical powers- Rapunzel was the one with those. But she seemed so normal to almost everyone, and that's what terrifies me-that she was so real.

  • @swanpride Not mention her style of villainy overall. She was just a manipulator. No powers and a dagger, and just look at all she accomplished. The simplicity behind it makes me like her even more as a villain.

  • @swanpride she's too scary... the way she controls rapunzel is so cruel... she must live her own life with no strings attached, unless like a puppet...

  • @swanpride it's creepy probably because it's so similar to human nature

  • @AquaticFerret Not to mention stealing a PRINCESS baby. Now that's desperate!!!

  • @AquaticFerret correction she loved Rapunzel's HAIR...thats why she had to raise her etc. she had to make sure herself doesn't die....so she treated Rapunzel with care :D

    well thats what i think....

  • @twilightxd Yeah. My aunt said it was a love someone has for a car, or a tv. She uses it, and is desperate to keep it, but does not selflessly love it. That's the difference in love. Not real love. A desperate want/need. not selfless.

  • @AquaticFerret

Gothel is one of the best villians...

However I do not think that she truely ever loved Rapunzel, only her hair. The woman was abusive to her. Not a kind word ever came out of her mouth toward Rapunzel. I found no moment of tenderness toward her. She called her so many names... said she was fat... and constatly said "I'm teasing ... You know I love you."

I do like villains. Hades was absolutely hilarious... for example. But this one... truely gives me chills

  • @AquaticFerret I couldn't help but have mixed feelings about Mother Gothel. She was creepy, manipulative, selfish, and deceiving all right, but I think she really did love Rapunzel. I mean, WHO TRAVELS THREE DAYS TO GO GET PAINT FOR SOMEONE UNLESS THAT WAS YOUR DAUGHTER? Yeahhh...

  • @AquaticFerret I know! She was actually such a kind mother, because she raised Rapunzel! She didn't have to buy her all those paints and clothes and stuff, she could have just locked her up and used her hair by force! xD

  • @AllyandAnt totally agree. Gothel could have locked Rapunzel up since she'd been stolen. I think there's humanity inside Gothel

  • @AquaticFerret Nah, dude the best villian ever is that guy from The Princess and the Frog, what was his name? Doctor Facilier

  • @AquaticFerret She only "loved" Rapunzel for her hair, nothing more. But as to her being a villan, she definitely has a more White Witch personality.

  • @AquaticFerret She loved Rapunzel's hair, not her. The only reason she raised her was so she could have the hair to herself. She gave her nice things so she wouldn't try to leave. Every time she says "I love you," it's to Rapunzel's hair. Every time she kisses her, it's on the top of her head. She loved her hair.

  • @paperplanepapercuts aww I never thought about that before. I was wondering about their relationship; It's like partly she loves her and partly she doesn't truely love her. The movie made it confusing to me. Anyway, to think about what's all she truely cares is Rapunzel's hair made me surprised how Disney didn't make her get jealous of Rapunzel's youth and beauty, but this idea possibly wasn't on their mind :)

  • The girl who sang as child Rapunzel is named Delaney. My name is Delaney. I have blonde hair that naturally parts on the right, green eyes, and freckles.

    hmmm...

  • @HorseLuver098 Geez.. you must be beautiful then

  • 1:01 - 1: 23

    My fave part C:

  • I've got knee-length hair so I loved watching how Rapunzel's long hair was animated, and I'm a brunette, so one particular line of Flynn's made me grin, hehehe. I'm really happy that both of my favorite Disney princesses--Belle and now Rapunzel--have brown hair :)

  • @badpoetwithdreams SNAP. I'm a brunette too, so that line did make me grin too. Flynn Rider, boosting the confidence of brunettes everywhere. I also had the same short haircut as Rapunzel once, and now it's grown out to Belle-length hair - my two faves too haha

  • @pocketwatchgirl OMG me to

  • i was going to dye my hair like a dark redish (i have dirty blonde hair) but after seeing this movie I want to keep it blonde!

  • @silky377 haha I was going to cut my really long hair but after seeing this movie - Imma keep on growing it :P

  • @tangled277 Me to

  • @NicoleHalsey13 I must be the odd man out because I like the style and I Think it worked perfectly with the movie. Sure it would have looked AWESOME in the traditional Princess movie style..but I think the charm of this movie would have been lost a bit. Besides, the reason Disney at first chose this art style was because they were competing with PIXAR. Course they no longer need to do that...but we have this piece of art movie anyway!

  • who 's that old lady's voice?

  • @aguishe mother gothel

  • i want this in blue ray

  • the picture for this video is very inaccurate because 1.) her hair was in a braid, not long a flowing. 2.) maximus was NOT in the boat with them 3.) they were facing the castle 4.) they were sitting still in the boat and not rowing an oar in the boat when they were watching the lanterns.. just sayin' ( : i love this video tho!!!

  • @herbiefan139 T.T What's your point?

  • @avyhannah i'm just saying. it's not a very accurate picture.

  • @PaigeAndDaniella No I knew that. I've seen the movie more than five times I know what happens. But thanks for trying to help me.

  • @NicoleHalsey13

not to mention that Gothel called her "My little flower" and, instead of kissing Rapunzel's forehead, kissed her hair.

  • This movie is amazing and I love the magical bits and feeling it has

  • "This is the story of how I died."

  • Little Rapunzel's voice is so cute, I'm gonna die. <3

  • @HotWings728 ME TO! and in the movie i couldnt help but say AWW! when she talked as a little rapunzel!
