A major challenge with this piece is the length of the phrasing, Gilbert didn't do the singer any favors, and it requires BIG gulps of air start of each phrase in order to have anything left at the end with which to sustain. I like your voice very much, your pitch, diction, tonal clarity and interpretation are quite wonderful. The youthfulness of your voice works perfectly for this rendition, it sounds really lovely. But just take more air and let us really hear those sustains and end notes.
@joecburke , Well, to be fair to Mr. Gilbert (and Sir Arthur Sullivan!), most sopranos sing it much too slowly, dwelling on each phrase with loving (over)attention. It's really meant to move a little faster, especially in the phrases at the end of each verse.
Having said that, the singer in this video gives a good performance. Yum-Yum is as much about attitude as singing, and Miss Massey is spunky, not insipid; good job!
I love the delicate, youthful coyness of this performance. Too often this role is played by sopranos with beautiful, but heavier voices. The lightness of your voice adds a vulnerability that is extremely appealing and suitable for the role.
yes lovely voice
