  • Coming Soon, The New Chevy Moon! It's Today's Chevrolet! :-)

  • I forgot how "Jolly" the commercials were back in the 80s.

  • I loved those "Gimme a light" ads when I was a kid. I could have sworn they didn't start until 86 or 87, though.

Sorry, Ban, but "Love and Marriage" makes me think of Married With Children these days.

Did the Levi's jingle actually say the cords were providing light?

I wonder if any of the found loves on that short-lived show wanted to stay lost? Speaking of short-lived ABC shows, I'm not sure if a military base is exactly "innocent".

And wow, mid-80s Chevys sure were ugly!

  • The 1840s were pretty placid.

  • Everyone reminiscences about the decade they grew up in. People from the 60's and 70's think the 80's were horrid. Im sure 20 years from now the kids of today will be all nostalgic about the 00's or something. Everything is amazing when you're a kid we sort of lose that the older we get..

  • @llparad0xll I'm *really* tired of this argument. The 80's and 90's were (generally) periods of peace after decades of foreign entanglements. After a brief recession in the early 80's the economy took of to unprecedented heights. Popular culture for children and young adults was probably the best it's ever been. Before you accuse people of wearing nostalgia colored glasses, at least actually know the decade you're talking about.

  • @llparad0xll "People from the 60's and 70's think the 80's were horrid." - My Grandmother, born 1928, when I asked her to rate each decade she could remember of the 20th Century, gave the 50s, 70s, 90s an "acceptable" grade, though said she was too busy raising a family/holding a low-paying job to really see the 60s. It has been a while since I asked and I'm not sure what she said about the 40s and 80s though, but she once said that she didn't mind the 40s except for that disaster called WW2.

  • Call to Glory! I forgot about that series!

  • 80's were an awesome decade

90's were a good decade but not as fun as the 80's

    00 was kinda sucky

somebody please tell me that it will get better as I grow older

  • well the olympic theme hasn't changed any..

that foster chicken looks good,is it still around?

innocent times the 80's where.. i was like 1 year old during those olympics!!

  • My dad had the Blazer at 4:35. Lol.

  • These make me wanna go out and buy a VCR just so I can watch my family's videocassette collection. I might find some awesome cartoons!

  • My mom made me wear Cords in school. I've only just gotten over that nightmare and now it's like deja vu. Thanks. lol

  • The levi's commercials were always so dramatic. They're still dramatic today!

  • love the commercial at 9:25

  • Agreed

  • I still have 2 of those Kodak tapes, work great but heavy as a brick

  • @Clay3613 yeah my parents still have those too, they are pretty heavy. They're quite indestructable because I've dropped them quite a few times.

  • The first episode of Married With Children in 1987, I said..."Hey! They're singing the Ban deoderant commercial song!"

  • I like corvettes but if I had to drive an old 80s Chevrolet it would be Caprice I like Impala from the 60s and early 70s but not from the 80s i would go with Caprice

  • "Their Levi's Cords were the only source of light." Clothing colors in the 80's were a bit bright, I'll admit. I don't remember pants actually being a light source though.

  • it aired aug 4 and today aug 4th 2009. 25 years ago

  • I use to love the Bud Light commercials with the different types of lights. I guess it appealed to my little kid sense of humor

  • Is it just me or does the opening melody for the Olympics theme similar to "O, Canada"'s first lyric words?

  • Mike,The 60s were not really a time of innocence with the war and all. The 80s were a time of innocence.

  • I think you'd be hard pressed to find any era of the 20th century not influenced in some way by war or conflict. I would say the early 60's time period of "Call to Glory" was legitimately innocent compared to what happened on later in the 60's and 70's.

I think the relative calm and prosperity of the 80's/90's was just a fluke in history. Hopefully we'll have another one really soon.

  • @jwgreek8606

So all the cocaine, the crack epidemic, and the national violent crime rates being higher were a time of innocence?

  • @EdwardPBone the 80s were except for that time Edward.

  • @jwgreek8606

Actually the 80's had Idi Amin \Uganda,

The 70's had Pol Pot Cambodia

The 60's had the U.S. invasion in Vietnam

    The 50's had Stalin

    The 40's Hitler

    the 30's Mao Tse Tung

  • @jwgreek8606 The 80's I Agree were A Time Of Innocence But The 90's Were Too

  • wow, that last one for Bud Light was very moving.

  • Was that Pat Summerall doing the voiceover at the end of the True Value commercial?

  • Yes. He did the True Value commercials for years.

  • That Levi's commercial was so awesome. It's hard to remember how revolutionary they were when new. They are so tame now. hahaha

  • That Levi's commercial was so stupid. hahaha

  • were these on a kodak video

  • No. I can't remember the exact brand, but these Olympics tapes have a white label on them, so they definitely weren't recorded on Kodak.

My Aunt & Uncle did record on several Kodak beta tapes though.

  • Maxwell brand.

  • Chevy commercial was fuckin sick

  • Love that 84 Corvette.

  • That final Bud Light commercial kind of made me weep. I came away with the feeling of we have each other, rather than hey guys let's get tanked.

  • Nice to see someone have a run-in with a lightsaber at a bar and not lose an arm.

  • the joek with ban in the side bar is kinda cheesey ,no offense

  • OMG That BAN commercial was sure sneaky! That's the music for "Love & Marriage" Which EVERYONE knows is the TRUE theme song for Married.... With Children!

  • It's also a pretty damn old Frank Sinatra song. "Married With Children" didn't even exist in 1984. Nothing sneaky about it.

  • Oh I know.... Married With Children came out like in 1987.... Why I thought it sneaky was that they could take the music and change the lyrics like that..... Whereas today certain songs CAN'T be used (even if it was in a show years before) and the public is forced to settle with a lame replacement tune... That's why I miss the 80s! Things were more clever and innovative and today is bland and dull! Just my opinion though...
