  • I live in West Springfield and I was on route 5 and I saw it go over the memorial bridge and behind the Monarch building

  • Dude thats coming right at us

  • Cool video. FYI, that was a tornado back around 30 seconds maybe a bit sooner.

  • SHIT! that was a close call!

  • Thank you for all of your responses! I apologize for the delay in getting back to you guys I am pretty bad with checking my youtube for any type of updates but I will make sure to update the whole "F3 versus EF3." Thanks for that information! I didn't realize that scale was no longer used!

  • que tornado legal

  • they don't use the F system anymore, they use the EF system

  • this is my hometown.! crazy i left because of the snow, and now the field is getting hit with tornadoes and crazy blizzards!!!

  • I Almost Died This Day I was On foot On the bridge When it crossed into west side and i had to stay out all night noting damage for fema

  • I'm from tornado alley (Nebraska) and have been chasing storms for over 2 decades. Congrats to the guy videoing and the mgr. of the place for opening his door for strangers to come in. Yes, it was refreshing to not see complete idiots when facing these events. The only healthy critique I would offer, and I know it's unsolicited, but you guys were surrounded by a lot of glass. Behind tornadoes there are some wicked downdraft winds that can shatter windows even when the funnel has passed. Thanks!

  • @WickedTornado I was the one who taped it. Actually caught this footage from my Blackberry Torch so I was very surprised at the quality that came out. Trust me we were all very very stupid for standing so close to those windows. We were just in utter awe when we started seeing that funnel form. It isn't everyday we see that happen, so to see it I had to catch it. I'm absolutely fascinated with weather, and I would love to be able to chase storms this was the closest I could get!

  • That's what a twister does. Pulls shit off of roofs....

  • @SummerAutumPro hahahaha

  • Good shit, nice to see some ppl are not complete fuckheads.

  • Nice to see everyone obeying the rules of the road!

  • Jut rented a car there yesterday. Lol.

  • Lol that is a strait up fuckin twister

  • @kimting421 Thanks for renting from us! Come back and see us!

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • no tornado sirens?

  • @Schwarze999 Massachusetts dose not have tornado sirens cause we don't get lots of tornadoes like in the Midwest but i wish we had some tornado sirens in MA

  • @Schwarze999 not in mass, no.

  • Probably one of the craziest videos from this tornado. Glad you guys were all ok.

  • @kylex102 Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. 7 months later and you can still see the destruction. Nothing compared to those families in the midwest so thankfully we are very fortunate. God bless!

  • we get about 1 to 3 tornadoes a year in New England but this year was wicked

  • @redsoxbaddog Um... we don't get any tornadoes in New England the last time I checked, I still can't believe Springfield got one.

  • @Freebleepers we do get them but not as strong as the Springfield tornado its was an EF3 i just cant believe it was an EF3 Connecticut (Per year1.5) (By area)2.8---Maine (Per year 1.9) (By area0.5) ------Massachusetts (Per year2.5) (By area2.4)---- New Hampshire (Per year 1.5) (By area1.6) ----Rhode Island (Per year0.2) (By area1.1) ---Vermont (Per year 0.7) By area)(0.7

  • And those people are still obeying the law? I know if I was there I would have gone right through that stop light.

  • I would've fuckin' Shatnered myself....

  • It's an EF-3, not an F3. The F (Fujita) system was taken out in 2007 in favor of the EF (Enhanced Fujita) system.

  • @elevatorsonly Thanks for the info! I was totally unaware!

  • @elevatorsonly WOOOOO are ya glad ya got THAT off ur chest? does it even rly matter???? congrats, you corrected him! want a cookie?

  • I remember seeing the tornado as I was just about to iron my school uniform. I was lucky I didn't lose any power. Now I'll be expecting Irene in a few hours as I'm typing.

  • You practically had the same type of positioning on the storm that I had when I filmed a tornado in Garr Corner Oklahoma. It passed by me just like in this video.

  • @Torn80cj I was just very lucky that the funnel didn't come toward us. We unfortunately didn't take this thing to be serious. I mean who would? It's not everyday we get a funnel through here, maybe a water spout or two off the ocean but not this. That's really what we figured it was but then we saw the aftermath.

  • i live in Fitchburg and the most i saw was a supercell, some lightning and a funnel from a far distance

  • It ripped in my backyard, but I was at a friends house and it came pretty fast. We cried!!

  • Holy crap you guys were lucky! Awesome footage but scary as hell

  • @StarletDancer01 Thanks!

  • Nice Capture.

  • It actually hit EF3 just over the river in West Springfield. The area just before New Bridge St had some EF3 damage. Most was EF2. TTornados are not unknown to New England, particularly Western MA/CT. Massachusetts actually rates in the top 5 of the nation for tornado occurance per square mile. Yes you get a lot of them in Ok, KS etc, but they are huge areas. Thanks for this video and contacting skywarn to make it available.

  • Thanks everyone. This was the very beginning of it, so the intensity grew as it made landfall off the river. As it left our area, that's where it became an F3. Just up the road the destruction is devastating.

  • Awesome video. I captured it as it was just touching down in Westfield. It's crazy how quickly it evolved into such a destructive force.

  • i live in massachusetts but i didnt get hit

  • Amazing video! Best one ive seen so far.

Still a scary and crazy thought that this type of shit would happen here. Is mother nature feeling alright??

  • That billboard could have very easily blown over on you guys!

  • Amazing video.

  • man.... we are doomed if this is what New England weather is to become

  • @GamingPalooza I know. It's just incredibly rare to see something of this magnitude in this area of the country. But it doesn't surprise me, seeing as how this year has brought nothing but unique weather patterns to all areas of the world. One things for sure, you'll see a lot of people run out and buy all sorts of new insurance they've never had before!

  • @jjcb613 we had an F2 tornado destroy our downtown. pretty amazing. It occored on May 22, 2011.
