In Australia we have combined red light and speed cameras. In my opinion they are diabolical because drivers are put into a situation where they have to slam the brakes on in a potentially dangerous manner in order to avoid a red light infringement as they can't accelerate to beat the red light camera because they'll get a speeding infringement instead. Lets face it, traffic cameras are more about raising revenue than they are encouraging 'safe' driving.

All you have to do to get out of a camera-based ticket is say that you lent your car out to a friend and that that is NOT YOU in the photo driving the car. There is nothing they can do about it as there is NO HUMAN BEING to argue against you or your case. Your ticket will be excused.

I have seen the cameras flash on my car at least 18 times. And have never had to pay a single one of them.

You don't even need to have a mailbox at the place you change you address to.

The "witness against you" is the video evidence itself. There's no way around this in court, trust me I've been there. You can try to contest using the 6th amendment but just about any - but not every - Pirate Lord (judge) will rule against you.

People hate these photo cameras because they make drivers paranoid and give expensive tickets. They are only meant to make drivers more aware of their speed and surroundings. But they are not part of some conspiracy or scam. People fear yellow light confusion; if you enter an intersection during a sudden change to yellow, you will not be ticketed if it turns red only when exiting.

RP4409, I did do some research on these machines from both your point of view and the criminal justice department under the Penal Code; did you bother to study what you believe to be a lie? Anybody can use statistics to prove their point; it isn't hard and criminals have used it to escape conviction. In my recklessness, I challenged photo enforcement and I saw the light turn red as I left the intersecition. More than a month later and even today, I was not ticketed. Luck? I studied to be sure.

I don't think camera tracking is a 6th amendment violation unless they refuse to submit it as evidence which wouldn't make sense. I'm not a law student or anything but i'm guessing there is a law that olny an officer of the law can issue a traffic violation and those cameras violate that.

I'm with you on the cameras in intersections, though. Studies show they cause more accidents than they prevent anyway because people slam on their brakes when they see them. Some towns are doing away with them. As for the others, a 10c piece of lead would do away with many of them.
