Any idea about the 'Abdul' Rahman they are taking about? ;)
Good to hear H. Sridhar's (Rahman's chief sound-engineer for years) comments on "The Rahman Sound". Now we know who's behind the 'spitting into the flute' sounds ;)
I met Rahman Ji for the first time in KL for audio release of "Indira" back in 1995,then in 1996 for Mega concert that rocked Malaysian fans, then after a long gap I had the opportunity to be close to him in Rahman 3D world tour in S'pore, lastly I had a chance to dine with him last week on Enthiran audio launck in KL, all this while he has been the same down to earth, soft spoken and humble person. This qualities in him is more enviable my many.God bless U Rahman Ji
just hear the tune from 6:30 to 6:50. what a soft and a marvellous melody!! its a typical ARR tune..seems its from Rahman's personal compositions. Has he used it commercially?? i wish i had the complete track of the same..
tht's so true abt wot the man said abt Rahman Sir in the end - "Aakhir kitne logo ko aisa kaam miltha hain ...jise vo poora dil se ke saath kar paaye "
dear rahman sir how r u? sir I am u'r fan.I want to meat u.this is very urgent for me and 'may be' for u.. .I can't explain it clearly because I don't know english.how can I contact with u?I sent sms KMG music conser...7 times but sms sending was failed. I know hindi little beat.
It's quite a surprise to find that Surabhi with its meticulous research team got the name wrong. Nonetheless I was taken down the road of Nostalgia. Great Upload.

A.R. Rahman is truly a genious. There is no doubt. Watch his Tamil Movies. He did some amazing music. Not only him, there are some following him, they are Harris Jeyaraj, Vidhyasagar and Yuvan Shanker Raja. All are good. Anyway, its proud for our Country that Music is growing and making others to listen. I have found a tamil website for tamil music. its called TAMILBEAT. try it, and search for the above music directors compositions. will be amazed...
He was the first person to teach the world how seemingly non-musical entities can actually change the ambience in a song and make the difference between its success and failure. ARR and Sridhar were mutually responsible for each other's success and the greatness they went on to achieve. The world will miss Sridhar as the legend marches on
The late Sridhar (who is a genius himself), sums up ARR's music in one word. It is highly "theatrical". And no wonder he sounds so excited as he says that. It is a dream for any thirsty sound engineer to work with such a genius with outstandingly fresh ideas of not only music but also the sound (like he says miking the flute differently to record its wind and not the tone).
The person who has filmed this interview has done really a good job....no other interview of ARR is as good as this one...The interviews that come now concentrate a bit too much on his spirituality and such...but this interview is different and concentrates what ARR is best at...His MUSIC ...something which I find missing in interviews now a days...:(
People should listen to Rahman's TAMIL compositions..they'll fall flat on their faces if they do..ever heard the hit songs from the movie "Boys" in Tamil? You'll be amazed!!
Somehow I just feel coz of the language barrier people are not quite exposed to Rahman's true talents-the ones that emerge when he composes music for the Tamil crowd. It's time we Hindi people started listening to Rahman's Tamil hits too or maybe they should reproduce those songs in Hindi so the world would recognize them too
ya some of them are awesome.....like newyork nagaram, taxi taxi, style etc....even though I am from Mumbai & have no idea at all of Tamil...still I loved them...
@nostalgic0girl I bet this comment is written by tamil since there are many 'TAMIL' words in the comment. Jokes apart, a true latent(or shall we say divinity) just manifests itself and crosses boundaries, languages and what not, and DOES NOT crave recognition. So don't worry and take the hassle of asking people to recognize it, unless ofcourse your point is to be boastful about tamilians or tamil movies. If someone didn't recognize such divine talent, its their sheer ill fate.
Rahman is legend not only because he does great music. He is so calm and composed even from the very beginning of his career. Years ago when this interview was shot, everyone including the people who commented on him must have thought him to be another one film wonder. But Rahman was confident in his words that one day he will come up. He is a role model for the new generation - dedication and hard work can take you to unbelievable heights. Thank you very much for uploading this video.
"and when you do a very soft tune you have to cry and the deepness should be there in the music whatever you do. that is my formula, and it should sound different" - YOU ARE DIFFERENT, HATS OFF TO YOU.
A 26yr old young man, changed the course of the Indian music in a single movie (Roja, which was his first movie), which is considered as one of the top 10 film music score in the history of world cinema

And speaking of ARR, u cannot call it talent, passion and genius
i believe its something like astute "divine-madness" a complete

As sridhar'sir rightly said, its highly theatrical, very engaging, involving and unbelievably interactive.
I am just proud and glad that i am in the same era that he is_ to hear and cherish in first person.
Making music and making us proud simultaneously!
