Wouldn't it be great to have the Carling Family come to America--New Orleans in paticular--for a series of concerts--in the original venue of the art form they have mastered. Hey I can dream cant I?
Dear friends, I really like the Carlings, I've been following his career (by you tube, of course) and I have to say that this performance is not the best of these talented guys, I'm sorry.
@albertsystem These folks are BETTER than anything in the u.s. now! They have taken "our american art form", the only one we have and taken itto a higher level than anyone in America could have. I speak now of N.O. jazz or whatever you want to call it!
My dear erwigfilms continued praise for you and your great contributions! Two numbers are missing here in youtube from the 40s first Really the Blues and Out of the Galleon - I am sure you have perfect audios of each so please share with us - it is so long since I heard them I would be ... ULAJAZZ new boy on the block
Well, in Barcelona, SPAIN, there is a few musicians interested on those old records from Bechet-Mezzrow sessions. Actually I'm playing (on albert system clarinet) those arrangements (Out of The Gallion, Where Am I, Revolutionary Blues, etc...)
Mezzrow had a BIG feeling playing blues, no questions about it, and Bechet did his best recordings with him.
Only a jazz fan like you understands this great playing. 99% of the world's folks have never heard of the Bechet/Mezzrow combination. Vive the Carlings!
Wow!!! What a great version of the old Bechet/Mezzrow classic. It is interesting to hear it played with brass and only the one reed. Superb job by Hans & the Family!
