mate, I bet you shag ur practice pad more than your mrs!!! BTW I find that traditional grip is much better .... more relaxed more control more drumming
hi was just wondering if you can help me my rolls don't seem to get any faster i reach a point where they don't seem to want to go any faster if you get me what am i doing wrong...
i've been playing drums for about a month. still working on the single stroke roll. it's really hard to keep it even. how long does it take the average player to learn to do a smooth single stroke roll at decent speed?
Totally. Try practicing this (and all rudiments) in time to music. Helps the muscle memory and, as long as you're paying attention to the sound you are producing form the pad, improves your speed and fluidity! Enjoy.
To use not the most difficult I think, I've been playing for a year and just started cracking down on rudiments. I never knew about them, so I was always using single. It takes a while to perfect speed with it, I will say. And accuracy while doing it.
i've been playing for about 7 months. i practice almost everyday. my single stroke roll still needs work. the most difficult thing is getting my left hand to be as good as my right. some days i do nothing but drill my left hand. seems like you just can't get it to really roll unless your left hand is at least close to as good as your right. how long did it take you?
If the sticks are heavy as well as fat (usually hickory/oak sticks) you will recieve more rebound off the drum, so obviously if you can control them you will recieve more reward
The sticks can effect everything. One pair might make you feel like your playing the best ever and another might make you feel like your playing horrible. Spend some serious time trying different woods, lengths, sizes. You will know when you find the right one. As you technique changes you may need yo switch sticks later on. Another thing to watch out for is sticks that have lost there physical integrity. Too many rim shots or just playing in general will make the stick feel hollow.
awesome work =)) good job keep it up congrats

What size is that vic firth stick ur using? it looks pretty thick

two quick questions:
1) When you hold the drumsticks, do they need to be under the first knuckles of the index fingers or the middle knuckles?
2) Should there be any space behind the drum stick between the index finger and thumb?

seems like my left hand is my biggest weakness.

I believe the single stroke is the most difficult rudiment to master.

I've been playing 30 years and my left hand is still not as good as my right - it is a damn site better than it was 30 years ago, though ;-)

I have a question: Do fatter sticks effect your speed?
Ameh1 3 years ago
It depends. If the sticks are too big for you and you can't hold them correctly then no. Otherwise, yes!
