it's not advertising on google maps its a real thing. It's not computer generated or anything, kfc(for no apparent reason :\) created that thing forreal. Made in Rachel Nevada, created out of 65,000 1ft tiles
KFC did an advertisement by laying out hundreds of LEGO type blocks purposefully to be seen from the sky. It is a real thing, not an advertisement and it wasn't secret. It happened in 2006 and it's on wikipedia for Rachel, NV
I found a video on youtube, google must've told them they were taking pictures (they only do it once every 2-3 years) and they made a LARGE photo of the kfc dude =P
