It's a shame the cylons disabled the Battlestars & Viper squadrons, as it would have been an epic battle. I love the fact even though the colonials were outnumbered, they were taking the fight to the Cylons!
It's very creepy, the way that the ships suddenly shut down. It almost makes me think that the Cylons just let them plunge into the atmopshere, unable to propel themselves.
I can't really remember the storyline but can anyone remind me why the Pegasus was able to jump away from the attack and all the other Battlestars apparently couldn't?
@eaglesguy2036 She was in drydock when the attack began and the Cylons were targeting active ships of the fleet. As the shipyard came under attack in what was most likely the second wave, Cain made the choice to jump away from the battle to save her ship and be able to fight another day.

Actually, they had good idea with making it "realistic s-f" but they kinda "lost it in the translation" and it went terribly. Even Star Wars universe had better "in-universe" technical consistency.
@thehelix27 The other side of the solar system? More like the other side of the galaxy. But it's pretty simple why they dont have that high tech stuff. Before the first Human-Cylon war, humans were very advanced, flying vehicles, virtual worlds, spaceships...but during the war, the Cylons infested the human networks and computers w/ their viruses. After the war, many humans feared that the Cylons could do this again, so they rejected those technologies, leaving only the battlestars as a defense.
I know its for visual effect, but the main thing that bothered me about this scene was the scale of the ships versus the planet. I mean, if a ship is peaking over the edge of the planet and i can see it, either the planet is REALLY small, or those basestars are the size of a death star.
Truth be told. Time is infinite. So every possible result and outcome of everything will take place at some point or another. Statistically, machines will take over during human existence. Its only a matter of time.
Yet I have my doubts about BSG Universe - why on Earth and Twelve Colonies, people would be using cars and merchant ships ? Societies that can build Batttlestars and Jump Drives could be little more inventive...

@flame10240 dont focus too much on that 1 detail....Remember they used most of their Animation and effects on the Escape from New Caprica so i hear so they probably did use Earth in the Background rather then some other planet
Knowing that the Cylons are super intelligent why didn't they just take the biggest asteroids they could find and drop them on the planets? That is a more effective way of eradication of a species you don't need.
Indeed there's no doubt about it that a large asteroid could single-handedly wipe out all life on a single planet. But bombing a planet with a gigantic asteroid takes too much effort and time and isn't really tactically feasible. Even if you had time to convert a dozen gigantic astroids into suicidal ships, by the time you maneuver them into position for a bombardment attack, many more human starships would have had the chance to evacuate the planet.
If you could equip it with an FTL drive you could make it similar to a mass-driver. In that way you would make it more destructive and faster. There is no way possible of getting out of the way in time with that thing.
If the Cylons equipped the gigantic asteroids with FTL, it would be to only jump it to a starting position that is distanced very very far away from its planetary target. You have to realize that FTL folds space, not warp at incredible speed. It's not enough that you have to have FTL drives installed, you'd have to have lots of thrusters just to achieve maximum velocity in subluminal speed to unleash a devastating powerful global destruction.
Also, I suspected that the Cylons had no intentions of fully obliterating everything on all the 12 colonies. It was likely they intended to harvest whatever resource they could salvage from the 12 colonies for their own purposes. If you remember, the Cylon humanoids were occupying Caprica city as some of the centurions were assigned to urban renovations.

@plasm2 When six was working with balter she integrated a cylon virus into the navigational system that was installed on all battlestars throughout the fleet. They are very hard to get rid of. It would be like a virus crashing your computer instantly before norton had achance to react. Such viruses exist.
@plasm2 There was only one class of warship, the battlestar. Also there was only one central government after the war with the cylons 40 years before. The president on Caprica was the president of the 12 colonies in charge of the quorum on Caprica. Before the first cylon war each of the colonies had a separate government but they had to unite against the cylon threat.
Besides the cylons were about a century + more adanced than the colonials. Their ships and computers were much faster

@RebornSilver I don't know where you're getting there were many different classes of battlestars from because that wasn't on the show. The galactica was just an older battlestar than say the Pegasus because it was one of 12 battlestars during the original war 40 years ago as mentioned in the first lines of the miniseries. Also did you not hear of the COLONIAL defense mainframe. Not caprican defense mainframe. Yes originally they were more advanced but in the 40 year interval, cylons adanced more
And that was because there was a ban on AI for the 40 years after the original cylon war. The fact that there was a single defense mainframe implys the colonies were unified in government and military. The colonials never ever came close to making skinjobs and basestars and cylon raiders only needed a dozen or so jumps to travel the same distance as a battlestar which needed hundreds because cylon computers were faster and more efficient.

Part 2 Yeah the Cyclons were more technologically advanced, heck probably would of out numbered the Colonials aswell, but the Colonials have better weaponry and defense systems. 1 Mercury class Battlestar ( Pegasus class ) can take on atleast 4 to 5 base stars and lets not even talk about the other classes that are bigger than the Mercuries so that would be suicide. Now what i really dont understand is why the Colonials are all sycned with 1 server....thats just stupid.

You pulled it off well, good execution and choice of music as it sound very very typical of BSG themes. Yours is a rare find, unlike some other cliché wannabe crap I see on YouTube.
@KuDastardly Oh God, you're telling me! I'm soooo sick of all these low quality videos with poorly chosen rock music the average fanboy thought was cool came close to the power and emotion of the series. It's like they feel they have to convey their gratitude to the show, so they make a video montage with music. But they do it in such a maladroit and inept way, bungling up the music with barbaric percussion and right that off as epic in the same sense.
This show has so much depth, and it is vague enough that you can take away just about any meaning from the imagery, the dialogue and even the plot. Were there gods or a god? Was it aliens? It's left open for interpretation, and allows us to continue the discussion long after the show has ended. This is what makes classic science fiction when you can look back and discover its relevance in contemporary culture. I do not doubt it will be studied long after I'm dead. My favorite show of all time!
@CosmosFan1 Some sort of Valkyrie style, but instead of a stealth version battleline version *Aka full ship of the line instead of support ship*. I notice they have more armour and are bigger overall, but don't seem to have loads of vipers.
@TRUExSIGHTS I agree. I think those tubes lining the underside of the flight pods are viper catapults. There only being six of them suggests the Valkyrie can only launch six vipers at a time. And I think the ship is about the length of Galactica's flight pods, but it definitely has quite a complement of batteries and ship-to-ship missiles launchers.
i love this vid! it captures the pure essence battlestar galactica n caprica. basically, the cylons found humanity as "imperfect". Hint for the destruction of their imperfect creators was apart of their faith? Correct if im wrong. i wonder how much STO plays in the role of the Cylons. Its amazing to see it play out.
@fallbread because the Cylon plan was to destroy all of humanity. If you watch Caprica you will see how humans first created Cylons and eventually the series will show us how the Cylons became sentient and turned on humans.

I've always wondered about the humans that survived on Caprica after the fall. Did they all die from the radiation or did they somehow make it and learn to live off the land? I have always been curious about this.
@smcneal057 it is believed they eventually died out, as there were probably far too few humans remaining to sustain a population, particularly on a planet that is pretty much now a nuclear wasteland. The survivors of humanity all emigrated to Earth.

And the attack seemed really inefficient. They used hundreds of warheads to destroy the Twelve Colonies. You would think that they would have seriously upgraded the nuclear warheads to create a larger explosion.
@keepinlow It seems that the Cylons upgraded themselves but not weaponry. They still mostly use missiles while the colonials use kinetic energy weapons for the most part.
Colonial weapons seemed to be better but the Cylons found a way around them. Which is what what one side would do to counteract the opposition.
The Plan was bullshit. In the Miniseries Adama said a 50 megaton bomb exploded above Caprica City. But in this movie it shows just fire damage after the explosion. A 50 megatonner would have vaporized a city completely. Who did the research for this waste of time?

what would've been cool what have been to show the Attack from President Adar's point of view and that of Fleet Command. make a movie like Pearl Harbor or Tora Tora Tora! and really show the government and Fleet responding to the attack and all the chaos that ensued. show what became of President Adar! If he dead or did he survive? What kind of battle did Admiral Nagala put up? that would have been very cool and showed the Cylon Attack in a broader and more realistic approach.
Yeah. Someone brought that up on another similar video. Best as I can tell, I think the VFX team used it to cut corners. It's supposed to be Caprica, but they figured that shooting it just so at that kind of angle, only someone paying a lot of attention would even notice. None of the VFX sequence was really in the original script of The Plan, and the VFX team wanted to actually do something cool, yet it probably wasn't covered much in the budget.
Plus, if you notice in the same shot the way they show the Baystars encircling Caprica is completely unrealistic. They are in close formation (close enough to see), and yet some of the ships are obscured by the planet. They'd have to be thousands of miles away for that to happen (and they'd look like tiny points of light at best). That or Baystars are the size of Iraq (which they aren't). I saw the VFX break down of this shot, it seems like it was done to look dramatic, not realistic.
This is such an awesome video. I know I have commented on this before, but the music just fits this video and the scenes from The Plan. Just seeing those Batlestars going down is just so .... for better words, awe inspiring. The music just fits right in with what we know from Battlestar Galactica and Caprica.
What a great show, Its a sad end to 12 beautiful worlds.

Of course in the actual series we had WW2 era army trucks so your point is generally good :)

I know its for visual effect, but the main thing that bothered me about this scene was the scale of the ships versus the planet. I mean, if a ship is peaking over the edge of the planet and i can see it, either the planet is REALLY small, or those basestars are the size of a death star.

@CymruAlteran Its not like the colonials didnt build build build for themselves, if im correct in the origininal 2 hour dvd adama says something like "we lost 74 battlestars in a single attack" and starbuck replies with something like "thats almost a quarter of the fleet" plus then you have the warstars and the other ships.
but it doesnt matter, apparently a 60 year old battlestar tears the shit outta so many basestars.
shame its not real though, id make starbuck hear the rain alright :P

Anyway, wouldn't it be fun if Baltar double-crossed the Cylons? The Cylons would send everything to the Colonies only to realize the Trojan in the CNP not only didn't work, but sent back an instruction to power down Cylon vessels :-D Baltar would have been a hero :-D

Knowing that the Cylons are super intelligent why didn't they just take the biggest asteroids they could find and drop them on the planets? That is a more effective way of eradication of a species you don't need.

Indeed there's no doubt about it that a large asteroid could single-handedly wipe out all life on a single planet. But bombing a planet with a gigantic asteroid takes too much effort and time and isn't really tactically feasible. Even if you had time to convert a dozen gigantic astroids into suicidal ships, by the time you maneuver them into position for a bombardment attack, many more human starships would have had the chance to evacuate the planet.

If you could equip it with an FTL drive you could make it similar to a mass-driver. In that way you would make it more destructive and faster. There is no way possible of getting out of the way in time with that thing.

If the Cylons equipped the gigantic asteroids with FTL, it would be to only jump it to a starting position that is distanced very very far away from its planetary target. You have to realize that FTL folds space, not warp at incredible speed. It's not enough that you have to have FTL drives installed, you'd have to have lots of thrusters just to achieve maximum velocity in subluminal speed to unleash a devastating powerful global destruction.

Also, I suspected that the Cylons had no intentions of fully obliterating everything on all the 12 colonies. It was likely they intended to harvest whatever resource they could salvage from the 12 colonies for their own purposes. If you remember, the Cylon humanoids were occupying Caprica city as some of the centurions were assigned to urban renovations.

@plasm2 When six was working with balter she integrated a cylon virus into the navigational system that was installed on all battlestars throughout the fleet. They are very hard to get rid of. It would be like a virus crashing your computer instantly before norton had achance to react. Such viruses exist.

@plasm2 There was only one class of warship, the battlestar. Also there was only one central government after the war with the cylons 40 years before. The president on Caprica was the president of the 12 colonies in charge of the quorum on Caprica. Before the first cylon war each of the colonies had a separate government but they had to unite against the cylon threat.
Besides the cylons were about a century + more adanced than the colonials. Their ships and computers were much faster

The President was in charge of the 12colonies but it was more EU like there was one leader but each world had it's own government but the office of the President had the ultimate say.
The colonials were more advanced then the Cylons but the Cylons were able to use their technology against them so they had to get rid of it

@RebornSilver I don't know where you're getting there were many different classes of battlestars from because that wasn't on the show. The galactica was just an older battlestar than say the Pegasus because it was one of 12 battlestars during the original war 40 years ago as mentioned in the first lines of the miniseries. Also did you not hear of the COLONIAL defense mainframe. Not caprican defense mainframe. Yes originally they were more advanced but in the 40 year interval, cylons adanced more

And that was because there was a ban on AI for the 40 years after the original cylon war. The fact that there was a single defense mainframe implys the colonies were unified in government and military. The colonials never ever came close to making skinjobs and basestars and cylon raiders only needed a dozen or so jumps to travel the same distance as a battlestar which needed hundreds because cylon computers were faster and more efficient.

@RebornSilver I agree with you on the cylons using human tech against them but the cyclons i think were a tad more technologically advanced for they have FTL drives that are about 5 times better than the colonials ( note how they only jumped once to the colonies), also dont forget that they went from being machines only with super computers in their brains into humanoids tell me thats not very very high tech like. Part 2 Yeah the Cyclons were more technologically advanced, heck probably would of out numbered the Colonials aswell, but the Colonials have better weaponry and defense systems. 1 Mercury class Battlestar ( Pegasus class ) can take on atleast 4 to 5 base stars and lets not even talk about the other classes that are bigger than the Mercuries so that would be suicide. Now what i really dont understand is why the Colonials are all sycned with 1 server....thats just stupid.

@charonelli It was canceled due to weak ratings - and it had by far run its course as it was written. Even Caprica suffered from viewership.
It has nothing to do with gay/straight issues at all.
BTW, There is no specific time for "BG," however, it's implied that the travelers came 150K years BEFORE we did, not the future.

I'm soooo sick of all these low quality videos with poorly chosen rock music the average fanboy thought was cool came close to the power and emotion of the series. It's like they feel they have to convey their gratitude to the show, so they make a video montage with music. But they do it in such a maladroit and inept way, bungling up the music with barbaric percussion and right that off as epic in the same sense.

This show has so much depth, and it is vague enough that you can take away just about any meaning from the imagery, the dialogue and even the plot. Were there gods or a god? Was it aliens? It's left open for interpretation, and allows us to continue the discussion long after the show has ended. This is what makes classic science fiction when you can look back and discover its relevance in contemporary culture. I do not doubt it will be studied long after I'm dead. My favorite show of all time!

@TRUExSIGHTS I agree. I think those tubes lining the underside of the flight pods are viper catapults. There only being six of them suggests the Valkyrie can only launch six vipers at a time. And I think the ship is about the length of Galactica's flight pods, but it definitely has quite a complement of batteries and ship-to-ship missiles launchers.

i love this vid! it captures the pure essence battlestar galactica n caprica. basically, the cylons found humanity as "imperfect". @fallbread because the Cylon plan was to destroy all of humanity. If you watch Caprica you will see how humans first created Cylons and eventually the series will show us how the Cylons became sentient and turned on humans.

I've always wondered about the humans that survived on Caprica after the fall. Did they all die from the radiation or did they somehow make it and learn to live off the land? I have always been curious about this.

And the attack seemed really inefficient. They used hundreds of warheads to destroy the Twelve Colonies. You would think that they would have seriously upgraded the nuclear warheads to create a larger explosion.

@keepinlow It seems that the Cylons upgraded themselves but not weaponry. They still mostly use missiles while the colonials use kinetic energy weapons for the most part.
Colonial weapons seemed to be better but the Cylons found a way around them. Which is what what one side would do to counteract the opposition.

The Plan was bullshit. In the Miniseries Adama said a 50 megaton bomb exploded above Caprica City. But in this movie it shows just fire damage after the explosion. A 50 megatonner would have vaporized a city completely. Who did the research for this waste of time?

what would've been cool what have been to show the Attack from President Adar's point of view and that of Fleet Command. make a movie like Pearl Harbor or Tora Tora Tora! and really show the government and Fleet responding to the attack and all the chaos that ensued. show what became of President Adar! If he dead or did he survive? What kind of battle did Admiral Nagala put up? that would have been very cool and showed the Cylon Attack in a broader and more realistic approach.

Yeah. Someone brought that up on another similar video. Best as I can tell, I think the VFX team used it to cut corners. It's supposed to be Caprica, but they figured that shooting it just so at that kind of angle, only someone paying a lot of attention would even notice. None of the VFX sequence was really in the original script of The Plan, and the VFX team wanted to actually do something cool, yet it probably wasn't covered much in the budget.

Plus, if you notice in the same shot the way they show the Baystars encircling Caprica is completely unrealistic. They are in close formation (close enough to see), and yet some of the ships are obscured by the planet. They'd have to be thousands of miles away for that to happen (and they'd look like tiny points of light at best). That or Baystars are the size of Iraq (which they aren't). I saw the VFX break down of this shot, it seems like it was done to look dramatic, not realistic.
