Has anyone seen Mr Snuffalupacuss in the engine room of the Wesmek,I did today !!!!! lol, nice cab ride up and down the line too thanks to a certain Mr Baily
I remember this loco in Glos in the 1970's. Lovely to see it in action. As t having a Western engine - fine! The hymek would have loved having another hydraulic engine inside it.
What's next? Let's see a Deltic engine in a 1970's DMU!
Iam a little worried about the "knocking badly due to lack of lubricating oil" comment at the beginning of the video !!!! Dont rev the balls out of it to much lads, you dont want 2 f***ed Maybachs now do you ??
Well during the first start when it was knocking it was only running for around 15-20 seconds before it was shutdown again, the Lubrication problem was quickly sorted and its the 2nd start up that you see, and as you can hear the engine is running much better also with every successive start up it ran sweeter & sweeter, you for get that Maybachs have tunnel roller race bearings on the crankshafts, also it was the first start of the engine in many years the oil gallerys in the engine were dry...
Fair comment Mr Toon and your right maybachs do have roller bearing main bearings BUT they have white metal over bronze big end bearings and they also have fork style conrods which "share" the same bearing surface per "V",these are what would of been knocking !!,main bearings rumble when they are shagged, pray tell you left the oil priming pump running then went for a brew ?
Who's this Manvicstrat anyway, wasn't there a banker always present on the middle road for pushing clapped out diesel electric traction up Platting, now that is shoddy, never get that with a hydraulic....muppet!
I find it ammusing how many people think this is a bodge, dont u think the engineering has to be perfect to enable this whole idea to work>? otherwise the running gear and transmission will get torn to bits by that power unit.
omg. full credit on this job but please - my ears!!! What is that racket at the beginning of the video....It certainly not music. Some idiot screaming his head off right before I shoot him with a nailgun...
Well its kinda like this, on making the text screens at the beginning of this vid, they were a bit quiet for my liking but to fill the void I needed a song that was a minute or so in length and this seemd to fit the bill, I thought the lyrics were quite appropriate :) sorry if it wasn't to your taste but then my taste in music is a little ecclectic ;)
oi mate youve heard nothing. we've had a fantastic engineer leading the project, everything is working to perfection. Its a temporary means to keep the hymek in traffic at bury for a few months, christ why cant u just embrace the accomplishment made, every now and again the mould has to be broken to allow prgress to be made. Its a great chance to give1041s A engine a work out since that has been dormant a number of years. dont be such a hater!!
well then you clearly dont know the man who lead the project. he is a top engineer and has been working with them at bury since they first arrived. Im sorry mate, but firstly its a train your taking it all to far, having it running will bring in money to the railway, keep the mek in traffic and will allow us to now be able to continue work in A end on D1041 on its overhaul. If you dont like it fine, but dont bad mouth people who have put months worth of solid work in to achieve a unique goal
I can understand that everyone is entitled to thier own oppinions, but in this case you've missed the point and don't understand the amount of quality work that has gone into this engine transfer by people who really know their Maybachs... The MD655 is tempory just until the MD870 is repaired and can be reunited with the loco next year sometime, this has allows D7076 to run at this years ELR Gala where as before it could not, also the engine fit is almost as professional as the original
Impressive

Belting! Heard this was in the offing but didnt realise had actually occurred! And the recipient doesnt seem to have rejected its new organ!
Although the hymek sounded great at the wsr last weekend, the 870 never sounds as sweet as a 655. Cant wait to see/hear it! Well done chaps.
