will this only work with sony handycam? and also since it is wireless.....and you don't neew to plug it into the mic jack. will it work with cameras that don't have a mic jack???? And also You're videos are very helpful... :)
Thanks for review. I've been asked to video a play by a drama group and was wondering if this mic would be suitable. The group already use wirless mics, would this be able to link to their existing mics/sound system? I've got a Handycam HDR-SR12e
Thanks very much for response. I agree fully with your advice regarding the articiality when rich bass and weakened input masks errors made. I decided last night to order from the States a Pearstone hot shoe adapter which should allow me to directly plug an external mike into a mini jack. Always been impressed with Panosonic devices and hope yours meets up with your specific needs.
Hi, I am a piano player. I need to record classes and rehearsals. I am about to buy Sony or Panasonic Camcorder both with Dolby Stereo 2 ch and microphone zoom.
I read on some websites (and I experienced before with previous models) that built in microphone lowers loud sound and this is a problem for me. I used to add a wired microphone on old camcorders.
Now QUESTIONS:
1. Is this VR250-Sony ECM-HW2 decent for music and semiprofessional recordings?

@fresia58 I never tested the mic in musical settings so I can't give an answer for your first question. This mic can only be used with Sony camcorders with an active media. I would call B & H photo and ask them your questions and they can point you in the right direction
Hi hope you dont mind me asking you if you have gleaned any more information on piano recording capabilities of the HDR VR250 using the hot plate microphone. I have just purchased the handycam
I too am a piano player and whilst the 5.1 surround sound microphone of the handycam is clear the piano sounds 'tinny and harsh' on recordings. Previously I used an older sony handycam using an external microphone and the results for sound were far superior with a rich bass.
Hi, I finally bought Panasonic HDC-SD700 because was the minimun to have the external jack-in for the external microphone. This has the same stereo MIC with zoom. The zoom is strange, changes and screens the strong sound.
By the way, the lack of "surround" and bass is unfortunately what you want to really learn your errors.
The lowest power gives a "beautiful" fake sound in which everything seems wonderful, like in the small automatic cameras.

Ive been debating on weather to get a canon hd cam or a sony hd cam. I would love a mic like that. What kind of Camcorder would you recommend under $900? What camcorder are you using?
If I were you I'd get the SONY HDR SR11. It has stereo recording with a zoom mic. meaning when you zoom in on something, the microphone focuses on what you are zooming in on and does it's best to only record that sound.
Will this still record the source from the camera if this microphone is plugged in? Or will the microphone override that?

@utubeniteowl No you won't be able link in with this. You'll need to plug into their sound mixer
