  • love it.

  • This game was great. Im sure at the end though he says "The chaos has ended...you shall be remembered..." dunno why he didnt in this

  • lol "special power"' i remember as if it was yesterday. also remember the comp stealing all the gold as well. great game.

  • b227.pl/gry_online/strzelanki/chaos_engine.html play online :)

  • The Amiga version is THE only version you need !

  • I hate this game - it's the way too monotonus...

  • The plot of this reminds me of STALKER

  • DOS version is VERY SLOW.

  • Great, great game. Again from the Bitmap Brothers.

    It still looks good today.

  • That wanking tower at 3:27...

  • I loved this game .. cough splutter years ago :o) they should remake it for the PC just the way it was.

  • i always used to repeat out loud NODE ACTIVATED

  • At 52.00, if you walk into the wall in the top right corner it transports you to a secret room

  • I could only beat it with unlimited lives cheats with my friend when I was a kid, this is one my all time favourite games. One of the games where I'm playing mid way through then pause because I was called downstairs to eat dinner by the setting sun. Such great memories T_T

  • @Isomnophilia haha i know how you feel. This is definitley one of my childhood video games for sure

  • I started a fan page for Dan Malone (the artist on this game) on facebook recently, and via various links and posts I managed to contact Dan himself to talk to him about it, he was very touched his work was still loved...I mean, his work is classic! He even started to upload concept sketches from The Chaos Engine and also the original arena design for Speedball 2.

Search for The Incredible Art Of Dan Malone on facebook

Please thumbs up so people can join in and tell Dan he's the flea's peas.

  • Yaaaaaas! Me n my dad used to play this back in the day, i would go brigand n he would go navvie. I think this was the first game i completed for the amiga. Great game

  • That particular part at 1:11:06 where you nearly got killed, close shave lol, I was like O.O

  • 0:02:52-0:03:05 mióóóóóóóóóóód

  • Amiga had so many games with good music. So many original tunes. Fortunately there is WinUAE. And also my 500+ still lying under my bed beneath the layer of dust. :) (But covered of course)

  • Definitely one of the best Amiga games ever. Great video!

  • This was or its at now my favorit game from all. The Chaos Engine get never boring its a timeles game I say only best game ever :DDD.

  • Ahhh world 4 my mortal enemy of my childhood :p I still remeber when i played this game on my amiga heh i kinda miss those days ;]

  • One of my all time favourite games. I own this on megadrive but I used to play it on the amiga all the time. really want an amiga

  • So....many...hours....lost....to....this GARGH AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!

  • LOL i like how his friend took his coin kills

  • God, I just found this game again and my stomach turned upside down from the wave of happiness... :))))))))))))

  • Word of advice, dont play this with a competition pro. in fact dont play any game with a competition pro, stiffest joysticks ever!

  • OMFG... I was 14 years old when I first played this game! :D

Chaos Engine FTW!!! My character was always The Gentleman.

  • Amazing post! This was a superb trip down memory lane for me - it WAS the birth of SteamPunk!!

  • @MrSimonSharman Is that in any way related to the modern 'steam'?

  • @WizardKing78 I don't know what the modern 'steam' is - but I was always The Gentleman also! He ruled.

  • @MrSimonSharman He sure did. They ought to bring out a modern version; a first-person-shooter or something.

  • @WizardKing78 it would be good but highly likey they would mess it up, look at modern games, call of duty and all that bullshit. modern games are no way near as good as the classics

  • @warwick2155 Yeah, but they also might make a good job out of it. Some of the modern FPS games are awesome. But yeah, a lot of shit too.

    Chaos Engine FTW!

  • SPECIAL POWER!

  • u2 sega hound....

  • OMG! Any chance that i could play these awesome Amiga games on my PC some 20 years later? I mean if they have they been converted and so.

  • @Revengeflicks

You can with WinUAE - read our channel FAQ for more infos :)

  • theme reminded me of a porno....but awesome game!!

  • Okay tough guys. For 16 years I try to guess, how to get this mountain of bonuses in world3/lvl4, at the movie 53:00.

    Any ideas?

  • @BigMilesTeg

Check Amiga Longplay 328 - its shown there :)

  • wow, i've been searching it so long, definitly one of the best amiga games ever next to turrican =P

  • For some reason I remembered this as Team17 game :P

  • kill bill

  • Damn, someone please do a conversion of this for the xbox or even to the iphone. was such a great game and you could always replay it in different ways. god bless them bitmap bros.

  • this was the best that time:) when the computer amiga was live!

  • One of my favourite games of all time.

  • The Preacher character was changed to the Scientist in the US version

  • Is this the first Steampunk game ever...or are there others? Love the graphics and the music...

  • @Cassavius

There's LOADS of earlier SteamPunk games ...

like "The Eidolon" , "Blood Bros" and "Steel Empire"

  • @robotwo

Didn't know there was Japanese Steel Empire...I only remember "Cyber Empire" which was released here as "Steel Empire"...

  • Great game. In my opinion, better than "Alien Breed" :)

  • I miss these simple games and I think they would have a market nowadays too. Just update the graphics and sound and perhaps a better AI and I think it would sell. Not as a triple A game but could still sell well.

  • There is The Chaos Engine for mobile phones you know.

The graphics seemed to be more or less identical, but controling the character with directional keypad or keyboard on candybar mobile phone is next to impossible.

I don't know if there is a version for touchschreen mobile phones and if there is how plesant or unplesant the controles are.

  • If I remember correctly, it was unwise to pick the Gentleman WITH the preacher. Because the Gentleman had a MAP and the preacher had something else that was NOT a weapon (can't remember wha it was). This game was fantastic, 11 years since I last played it seems more than that.

  • the game was just great...but for some reason, the final boss was super easy. What I used to do, I used to plug my second controller, choose 2 players and get one of them killed so could get all the money for the game....

  • This must be the best computer game ever made. Touching the boundaries of what was possible on the Amiga... Everything is excellent, the gameplay, graphics... and the music and sound effects are so good. I took a day off from work to finish this game.. i never had that sensation ever since. Speedball II was another epic game by the bitmap brothers. I miss the excellence of their work these days.

  • Where there any other games similar to this at all?

  • No game can provide this kind of entertainment nowadays. This feeling when you sit with your friend playing a 2d game forgetting about all the troubles for several hours is priceless.

  • Food! F-F-F-Food!!

    A true classic...

  • Loved Dan Malone's graphical style

  • Without a doubt THE best of its kind ever made.

  • @lordcrapalot i agree. for its time, its a legend! countless hours of my youth was spent on this game! i would love for it to be remade on the ds, with upgraded graphics, map on bottom screen, new characters n worlds, new special weapons for each character n touchscreen capability for entering passwords or activatingf specials etc! oh yeah a multiplayer mode with online compatibility would rule!! regardless chaos engine is a true unforgettable classic!! :-D

  • I'm just now understanding why Wiki was saying that Richard Joseph pioneered in interactive music when he did the Chaos Engine. I was listening along, for example to whenever your duo is near the gate, the music changes itself to a more happier and majestic version.

    R.J., you were a HERO!

  • One of the hardest things for a shooter is to not become boring and tedious. Chaos Engine totally succeeds in this.

  • MAP!

  • One of the best Shooters EVER. Gawd, I love this game! The soundtrack is totally awesome, the graphics marvellous, the gameplay instantly hooking!

Amiga 500 + The Bitmap Brothers = Gaming Gold!!!

  • I love this game, Music is so awesome, play this everyday at work on my genesis nomad :)

  • One of my favorite game on Amiga with Disposable Hero, Turrican 2, ATR, Overdrive, Speedball 2, Sensible Soccer, Shadow of the beast 3, Leander, Lionheart, Ruffn tumble, SleepWalker, Oscar, Super Frog, Stardust (Very impressive) and Super Stardust.

    Great computer with great games.

    Amiga Forever :)

  • The best steampunk game ever, and one of the best games of all time.

  • I had this for the megadrive and got many hours of fun out of it but never got to the end because my flatmate broke my 'drive in a rage one day while I was at work, the prick. Anyway, it looks like I didn't miss much.

  • i remember this,awesome game

  • this game is so fantastic i memba many a night playin 2 player on this.

  • Brigand is the best character to use.... can unlock all the secrets with him.... Preacher is the best partner to have.

  • anotjher great game

  • This was my all-time favourite game on the Amiga

I can't believe how dated it looks now-I guess that's the passage of time for you...:)

  • Those ilustrations, the interface when choosing the guns, etc. are really great!

But the game it self looks a bit too clean and simple.

In the same type I think I prefer the arcade game OUTZONE.

  • Dated maybe, but still looks amazing and the gameplay is just immortal.

  • this is painful to watch how bad this guy is playing . sorry to say . Scientist / Priest is the best

  • Love this game, a real childhood favorite. I think it would make for an interesting movie. Think how many people would go to see it purely based on the shear awesomeness of the name alone, lol

  • what?? 16 bit sound sucks.... Love how industrial the music sounds on the Amiga

  • lol the genesis chaos engine sounds horrible. The most amazing genesis soundtrack is Streets of rage 1-2 (bare knucles), its just amazing.

  • Well you probably played the version that got released as the chaos engine. Have you heard the soldiers of fortune one. It completely murders this soundtrack. The only people who'd think it sounds better are people used to hearing gay-a sound

  • I've never heard the yank music but being english I really liked this music, I suspect thats 'cos over here we 'got' techno.

  • it's the same music, it just sounds better. It's bassier and more filled out

  • @sunmax1 mega turrican for genesis has good sound. still doesnt compare to turrican 3 amiga ;)

  • @sunmax1 i dont agree, they megadrive version has some great music, the end is better on the megadrive. amiga isbetter for overal SFX and music. The SNES is horrible, cartoony music

  • The World 2, Level 1 guys, they look like a steroid fuelled psycho version of Terry Nutkins from The Really Wild Show

  • This was a funny game. One of the first games i have completet in my life.

  • Cool stuff! Used to enjoy this one on the Amiga.

  • i'm playing through this enhanced aga version :) quite challenging, brilliant game though

  • NOSTALGIA!!!

    Nostalgia rules us all..

Excellent game. best game ever. aah.. fkc.. thx for uploading this :D

  • cubex55 said i could be part of their gang if i wanted. I dont see them inviting anyone else. Must mean they like me more than you lot

  • Actually, anyone who submits longplays to us can join - as long as their video meets our quality requirements ;)

  • @iainhead douche

  • 1. The guy playing is pretty bad, you can get a lot more out of this game

    2. exit 3-2 via exit B, exit 3-3 via exit B (you need a bomb/molotov), and you are up there at the start of lvl 4.

    3. If you want to go for all "secrets" you need a 2nd human player and at least one of you needs the bomb or molotov 2nd from 2-1 onwards

  • totaly agree

  • hey, on world 3, level four, right at the end has lots of gems and crystals...its right above the mines..does ne1 know how to get up there?!!! its been bugging me for decades lol. many thanks

  • many thanks for all this games. It brings back so many memories...

  • i loved this game when I was young :D

  • this game is such a classic i had it on my amiga

  • is there anywhere where you can play this online. I used to play it on my amiga but dont as its not plugged in anymore XD

  • Use Winuae Amiga emulator :)

  • How do I get Winuae :)

  • See channel FAQ, use google or join our IRC chat ;)

  • cheers dude

  • When playing in single player my personal fav combination is :

me - gentleman cause he is like super cool :D

i mean come on the guy has pipe on picture

comp - preacher cause i can take his healing, and then he dies like on 2nd world and i'm screwed :)

But great combination those two guys anyway

  • I always play two player by myself, kill the computer guy and do it on my own, that way i get all the power ups and control the play ;)

  • This looks like the AGA version. Is it ?

  • Nope ECS one :)

  • Comment removed

  • I have to disagree, this is definitely the AGA version. You can tell by the 'AA Version' on the logo screen :)

  • You are correct, the logo on RAG is wrong - will be fixed ;)

  • i've still got most of my amiga games including this one.but unfortunately i need a new a500+.fantastic to play this with my friends.wish they would make this, speedball, syndicate etc for 360.great walkthrough by the way.

  • I remember in the snes version he was called "the scientist" so I guess it DID cause some controversy. :o

  • epic :)

  • cool stuff, had so much fun playing that in coop with my sister. :)

  • The BEST game I ever played on my A600!! LEGEND!!

  • Thugggg!!!

  • Dude wheres the WinUAE, i really wanna play this again

  • Navvie is a tank.

  • how did you do thr lights thing?

  • in the amiga-cd32-version you have a voice in the intro, telling you the story of the game - very cool. played this a lot on "coop"...

  • good old days ^^

  • Is it me or does the music appear to get more intense the closer you are to completing the level, paticulary the last level of each world ?

  • Yep its one of the first games to feature variable adapting music.

  • Navvie and Brigand are the perfect combo for me

  • Childhood memories

  • i kicked arse at this game

  • Don't laugh, but for years I always thought the Chaos Engine itself was that mechanical-looking T-rex in the intro screens. I only played the SNES version and the way they portrayed the intro made it seem like that's what it was.

    :(

  • Great video and a great (allthough very difficult) game.

  • The graphics still look great after 15 years. Amazing game!

  • Gentleman + Preacher and Gentleman + Brigand were the best chosable char-pair in all. :)))

Do you know somebody where I can download this game now for PC (windows) ?

  • Just use WinUAE emulator and the game you can get at planetemu :)

  • Thx, I will try it :D But I must say I use UAE for linux but there is only f*cking narrow windows on my workplace so I can't install anything :/

...but I got tire of minesweper and admiral :D

  • ment about the music :)

unreal game, i want to play it again :(

  • You can do so - just use WinUAE emulator :)

  • i'd rather get a real amiga off eBay, but what the heck.

  • this game was amazing on the old amiga i spent most of my childhood on it lol im only 13

  • the music is insane

  • you know you're getting old when people start uploading video clips of these old games and watching them

  • This brings back memories. Richard Joseph (The Late Musician) was some kind of genius, the music still sounds good. All From a little 2meg Amiga. Kids nowadays don't know they're born.

  • I do...Of course, i fancy myself a curator of antique video game systems and electronics.

  • Great game! My favorite combination was Preacher as the main character and Navvie as the sidekick. Although weak at the start, Preacher's concentrated single beam weapon kicked ass in the endgame :D

  • packed with awesomeness

  • This shud be a film, not like made into one, just this vid here shud be a film!!!!

    EPIC!!!!

  • AGREE AMAZINGGGGGGG

  • Foo Food....Food...Food.....Special acti food....Node acti food.

    Good vid - good memories.

  • FOOD ACTIVATED!!

    LUNCH COMPLETE!!

  • I played this on the SNES, the Paula version of the music spanks the SPC700 version as always!

  • Oh man, the memories!

No one knew what would happen in the future, with gaming and all - games were still made with passion and love.

And i had lots of passion and love for this game, because it fucking rocked.

  • oh my god this brings me back young memories :(

  • Bitmap Brothers are still active. :)

  • Wait...Preacher? I remember him being called "Scientist".

Maybe it's cause I had the PAL version, hmm.

  • no the preacher was renamed the scientist in the snes version, this is the original amiga version.

  • Thanks!! I used to love the intro music.

  • Check out the awesome 90s dance music lol

Bitmap bros always had the best music in their games.

Some of the best and most consistant to ever be released

  • omg I end this game when have hmm 7 years? luv this! :]

  • hard game this

took me a while to complete

  • and amiga " chip " ( sound shit) system is amazing. listen to that ingame music, quality stuff, instruments are so clear!

  • this song is freaking genious, i would have never thought of using elephant sample in industry song.

  • All hail the Bitmap Brothers!!

  • now that's what i call real "pro gaming" for this game was pretty hard :P thanks for the memories...

  • I remeber buying this for a quid a disk from the boot fair...classic i was always Navvie !

  • That was a great one!! So many memories... Hey, I still have it!

  • Awesome music and awesome game, brigs back memories

  • The Amiga version was the best by far!

The same with Speedball 2 as well...

All the ports of both of these games were just plain shocking!

  • The voice sounds a bit like Patrick Stewart. Lol, i always played as Navvie too

  • This is actually Richard Joseph own voice.

  • Piss off, SharmanLtd.

And stop messing around with your mom's computer and drinking your dad's lager -- it's clear that you can't handle either.

  • Hardly possible as the MegaDrive version was a port and had worse music ;)

  • nah...the genesis version was much easier and not superior to the original. The SNES was better as a port. Preacher/Gentleman team was my fave.

  • @JonathanCrane82 better how? just curious.
