Rock vs Disco was fueled by racism, 4 sure.

David Geffen who was the president of Donnas' label at the time did not know what to do with her at all.

What better way to show Donnas great versatility then have have this song be a duet w/ the Boss?

He had already shelved her recording "Im a Rainbow" & had her record with Quincy Jones who I think was a terrible producer 4 her.

Her vocals were mostly lost in his overproduction. No one in Hollywood is a forward thinker, even today.

David Geffen, himself being gay, should've known better! Why the hell didn't he let Donna do what she wanted? Come to think of it, maybe Springsteen could've suggested to CBS that they buy out Donna Summer's contract from Geffen and put her on if not Columbia or Epic, one of their affiliated labels such as Portrait.

fantastic! Imagine my disappointment in 82 when they said the duet didn't sound right, so they let Donna sing this one alone on her album, this could have been so huge, it would have helped keep Donna in pop/rock

I have always enjoyed Donna's version and am a HUGE Bruce fan. They both pulled it off as soloist and certainly this duet was very good.

The song was actually recorded as a duet. Bruce wrote the song for Donna and they did record the song together. Donna's record company did not like the duet, and they dubbed Donna's vocals over Bruce's. Bruce plays guitar on Donna's version and you hear his vocals at the end of the song.

It is so NOT accurate to say that Donna is not a "Rock Goddess"! Yes, her catalog may be mostly dance, but her passion and being is rooted in rock and you can hear it in MANY tracks, including this one. Her hits may be dance oriented, but her foundation is rock. And if you can't see or hear that, you are just another DUMB FUCK that has wandered off the streets! Her record labels have deemed her the DISCO/Dance queen. donna summer has about as much "rock creds" as madonna, "hot stuff" and donna summer are the furthest thing fron rock you could get.."hot stuff" is a straight up disco tune that incorporates a guitar solo, hardly a rock song, there was quite an upset when she won, she beat out true rock artists like pat benatar, the grammys are nothing but a popularity contest. donna was hugely successful in 1979...tina turner is by far more rock oriented than donna can ever be...donna should not have won..

so what if i wasn't around back then, i'm allowed to listen to great music from the 70s and 80s. bruce and donna, from what I've read, enjoyed working together. donna's the wanderer album is perhaps on some levels more rock than bruce's work around that time. if it was Gloria Gaynor and Iron Maiden- yes they are at 'opposite ends of the music spectrum' but Donna and Bruce haven proven to be successful in both rock and pop markets. you cannot deny that.

you say from "what youve read" you had to actually live the throught the era to fully understand the differences and the anamosity between disco and rock fans, donnas "wanderer" was 1980, a new decade, disco was considered pase at that point, "the wanderer" was a disco based album with rock elements, it also wasnt nearly as successful as her previous "bad girls" album..donna to this day has never been played on a "rock station", bruce to this day has never been played on a dance/rythem station..

Brilliant!!! I've always wanted to hear the long allusive duet that we all may never hear. Today was the first time I ever heard Bruce's solo version too. Great idea and mix.
