@saeidmomtahan You have to remove the gelly-pulp because it is a germination inhibitor so it will not grow unless it rots away. You can plant the seeds right away but it will take longer to grow because the pulp must rot away first.
Nice info, bit I just throw my old ones in my yard as well as the neighbors yards that I don't like. That at least makes them have something positive about them, lol.
I'm not against the fermenting method but, speaking with my father, yesterday: Jan. 04, 2010, he's 84, they lived on a farm through the depression, so on.
He said they merely put the seeds on paper or any of the like, let 'em dry. Not sure exactly how he, they stored them.
Very good information for beginners. Thanks for the post. I have heard that tomato seeds have to be allowed to mold (as you said) to get rid of diseases and make them viable. Thanks again.
You say to dry them on a paper towel, but I'm having problems with them sticking to the paper towel and then i have to flake them off. I'm scare that will damage the seed. Any fixes?
Don't dry them on a paper towel, I put them in a jar of water for a week. Then just place them on a plastic tray for a couple of days, to dry them out before I store them for next spring. (In a dry air tight container)
Tell me more about seed saving. Do you need multiple male/female plants in order for seeds to work? or will just one tomato plant's seeds work for saving? Also will Hybrid seed saving work?
From what I learned, the hybrid's seeds won't grow the same hybrid for you.The seed will only containing its primary DNA which then if you use to grow tomato, you will only grow its parent tomato species where it come from.
That's pretty neat! What about the Heirlooms? I have one homestead variety. Will the seeds from that plant grow a new heamstead plant? or will the seeds be stale b/c no male/female?
Very nice tomato :D

Is it possible to just cut a tomato open, separate the seeds and plant them immediately? Or are there some intermediate steps that have to be taken?

@MageesterMixit ..That makes sense, because how else would the tomato survive without humans around to save the seeds?
fernfeyes 1 year ago
You can only save seeds from non-hybrid varieties. Saving seeds from hybrids doesn't get the same results next year, so it's not worth it.

Tomato plants that are not hybrid are open polinated which means you can save the seed even if you only have one plant and they will grow true.
You can de hybridise by saving seed from a hybrid.
You will get different types of plants and tomato's.
Just plant the seeds from the best output every year untill you get the desired result.

@EmelinaChaCha Build a small frame 1 ft x 1 ft square, with door screen in the middle, then place on there to dry.
