Deathcore and death metal do not sound similar to trained ear (when I say trained, I mean some1 who listens alot of death metal or deathcore) The riffs are different, Vocals are usually different, it has shit tons of breakdowns (usually generic and bland ones) Im huge death metal fan but just cant enjoy deathcore... it just sounds shit to me :/ There is propably some good deathcore bands too, but they are just drown in the massive amount of shitty ones.

And I said there are some good deathcore bands too. Nothing really annoys me more in metal than badly done breakdowns and usually deathcore bands have alot of those. @UFCNFLjunkie deathcore wants to be brutal only with heavy riffs and blastbeat and random breakdowns which is lame, because they dress like princesses, and mostly their lyrics suck, which is contradictory with the kind of music they pretend to do. On the other hand every aspect of death metal is meant to be brutal, lyrics, dresscode, and music, a very complex music, which can be fast, groovey, slow, which has solos breakdowns awesome riffs and creative drums, not just TATATATA...and so on.

I have no idea what deathcore bands you've been listening to, but those must have sucked so band... As couple dudes have said, there are good bands among bad ones, like there are also in death metal.
And I recommend searching for some better Deathcore bands. I do not really listen to any deathcore band, but they have some really good songs! Their like one-hit-wonders to me.

Cryptopsy, Gorguts and Quo Vadis, Kataklysm, Augury, Neuraxis... just to name a few more, they are all great great death metal bands... Montreal, Quebec is in my opinion one of the death metal capitals in North America
