If Hockey was one of those old-time classic TV Detective / PI type characters .. and he had cornered 8 or 9 crooks .. he wouldn't need help .. HE COULD SURROUND THEM HIMSELF !! Lindsay Tanner effectively wants all mining companies executives to be lined up outside his door, begging for handouts and tax breaks. This way, he can leverage them to do favours for Labor.

Joe Hockey wants Government to stay out of the picture as much as possible.

i just find it funny how this super mining tax was blown out of proportion by the mainstream media, and now that the election is over every one is shut up. i think its obvious who mainstream papers and media's want in power. the mining tax will not send companies away it will simply cut into the overwhelming profits made by the mining companies

Nah, Tanner's kind of being a bit disingenuous here. There actually isn't a contradiction between saying "mining companies will leave the country" and "those mining companies that continue to operate in Australia run the risk of making a loss, the Government will be forced to write out taxpayer's cheques to those companies." It's a massive industry. Tanner's twisting his words; he's full of shit, but it's clever politics, I'll give him that.

This is all bullshit communism. I admit I was taken in by the ideology at first, but when I thought about it more, it's just using the deception of an apparent class warfare as a sale pitch to get their hands on more tax to cover up their shit for the election. The big miners already pay tax -43% in total. This would lift it to 58% - the highest tax on mining of any federal government. What is most likely to result is that they collect no more total tax, but lose jobs as companies go off shore.

Thank you Tanner; a voice of relative reason and integrity. Joe Hockey was pathetic, more spin, selective analysis full of omissions, a reflection of how beholden to mining industry tyoons and bosses the Liberal Party are; they have recieved over a million dollars so far in donations from Clive Palmer alone. Hockey is willing to put the interests of a wealthy donar minority ahead of the national interest. And don't forget, this will be world's best practise; other countries will follow our lead.
