He is autistic minus a few traits which would make the programme boring and unfunny eg It focuses on his unique solutions which don't involve normal social interaction (because other people are just animals to him) rather than watching him focus on an obsessive interest for hours which would be boring.

By autistic traits I mean these characters have a fictional amalgamation of personality traits but it's the carefully selected autistic ones which make them interesting, loveable and funny. Sheldon, Brittas, Bernard are Aspergers/HFA. Bean & Dougal would be MFA/LFA. Obviously with some things left out as I said before.
