  • I used to play like this, until I took an arrow to the knee

  • he's amazing and he can't walk... so to be amazing break your legs

  • Quem foram os caras que acenderam o baseado (barra curtir)? rsrsrr

  • i like this sound.he is the best.i dont now any person how can make such beautiful sound on a violin. thanks for the video,i am learning this serenade now and it helps a lot:)

  • What kind of uncouth moron would DISlike this?!?! This is music-making of the highest caliber by one of the greatest violinists of our time.

  • SUPERRRRRRRRR

  • I just love his facial expressions through out any of his pieces on youtube

  • @CartmanKicksAss11 I can tell he is feeling the music, as my mom stated. Itzhak Perlman est très talentueux, oui?

  • @Boogawes i know that but i have not seen another violinist do these such expressive faces

  • @CartmanKicksAss11

That's one of my favorite things about him. He obviously loves the music and you can see the passion in his face.

  • >.<' This is my Homework!!... :) But i like it

  • Simplemente hermoso. La sublime emoción que hace cristalizar tu ojos.

  • One more time Perlman show us what real music is... Simply passion and music without ego.

    Thank you very much

  • Las lagrimas que tengo ahora explican los sentimientos que sentí durante esta hermosa pieza musical...

  • Look at the dance of his finger, so casually elegant.

  • All my creys.

  • I cry

  • i played this at a concert once, and I couldn't stop crying

  • ..Он настоящий музыкант.

  • I am always inspired by Mr. Pealman. Although he sat in the chair. But he is taller than any men. He plays violin with soul. Only person who has beautiful heart can produce such extraordinary sound in the string... He is a true musician.

I tried to google the music sheet for this piece (for violin). Could someone direct me the website? Thanks so much.

  • @yufan111 IMSLP.org

  • @carrottoponcrak Or sheet music plus

  • @DHcello yeah, sheet music plus has a HUGE number of different transcriptions for a LOT of different pieces. It's pretty nice since i like to get my hands on all things Heifetz, but i also prefer to not pay for something of which is now free for anyone to own.

  • very important player.I love him very much

  • I'd probably sing my soul over to the devil to play violin half as well as Perlman.

  • I bet those violinists in the orchestra just want to throw their instruments down and leave.

  • @MidniteHasStruck Of course Perlman is a violinist of genius but this orchestra had quite a few wonderful violinists. The really good musicians don't envy their brilliant colleague but enjoy his art.

  • @chinahands100 he had polio when he was a child so he cant walk :(

  • Most of the camera work is of Perlman, as it should be for a film, but if it were on the audience I expect many were moved to tears, as I was, by Perlman's emotional interpretation of this serenade.

That said I disagree with mtown78. Pearlman may have taken some liberty with his technique historically speaking but the emotion was conveyed to me, and I expect, others.

  • I am proud to live in the same country this amazing violinist was born in.

  • i am honored just to be born in this century and year

listning to this lovely tune by one of the greatest virtuoso

that i admire so much in many ways.

  • tremendo hijoe puta en el violin. toca un violin encojonao.lol

  • January grey skies, sadness of heart, I listen to Perlman & rejoice that I am alive to hear this music. Thank you.

  • estoy de acuerdo contigo memiux0505!! no saben de lo bueno!! :)

  • I've been told he has a stradivarius of his own. Is he playing with it in this concert?

  • @BrunaoJazzistico .......He has (or had) more than one strads / del Gesu. In this recording he was playing the Soil Stradivarius (1714). He owns (or used to own) another Strad also from 1714 named "General Kyd" and a del Gesu from 1743 named "Sauret". In the 60's and early 70's he used to play a Bergonzi from 1740 named "ex-Kreisler"

  • @hemif damn thats a lot. but he deserves to be playing with the best. thanks for the answear friend!

  • The 12 cheeky non-conformists should be punished

  • 12 people don't know what true musicianship and interpretation are....

  • whats wrong with his legs?

  • @chinahands100 When Perlman was young, he was stricken with polio, which soon took away his ability to walk. He uses crutches to get around now.

  • Que Deus conceda uma longa vida ao Sr. Perlman para que, entre outras coisas, ele possa continuar nos alegrando e nos inspirando com sua música.

  • Oh! I think I am getting clever now about violin players!

Perlman probably admired Michael Rabin very much. Rabin died young, but his playing was "second to none"!

Look up Rabin in 18th variation - Theme of Paganini and you will here the same softe tender "sweet violin" like here.

I love both these players (Rabin, Perlman) but I want more people to also discover Michael Rabin. For me Rabin is upp there with "old time greats": Oistrakh, Menuhin, Szeryng and my old time favourite LEONID KOGAN!

  • This is so sweet, so sweet! - So very, very sweet music!

    Thank you Perlman!

    Thank you Tchaikovsky!

  • BRAVO!

  • I can listen to this again and again.

  • I really admire Perlman, I find him one of the BEST violinists of the world, equally with Heifetz and Kogan. I`m violinist too, sure, such playing is almost unattainable height, but imho it was, is and always be something to aspire to

  • god bless you

  • harika

  • Absolutely amazing, beautiful. Music expresses what words can't.

  • perlman you're playing is al magic

  • pero como hace llorar al violin increible ! PERLMAN

sueño con tocar como el T.T

  • I fancy his playing all the time. In fact he is my idol. I have got a few of his CD. I think he is the best violinist ever live. May God bless him so he can play more beautiful music for us!

  • @VERAYEEN He is the best, I heard him the first time in London in 69 and have been faithful to him ever since... there is no words to describe his special sensitive interpretations of music.

  • Itzhak Perlman was my inspiration for taking up the violin.

  • No words

  • You don't need God when you have this guy to listen to!

    - The Atheist

  • @LogicalFlawDetector I like where you're coming from :)

  • i take a glance in eternity by just listening to it

  • what a great violinist

    whyimgreat . com

  • Thank you Mr Perlman : you raise the Art of violin to the best level possible. That of the soul, of the heart.

  • I've been listening to this for 40 minutes i probably should quit. must... close... damn, clicked the play button again.

  • now i could see how much more beautiful the violin could sound with his "singing".. :)

  • It's so beautifuly pure.... what is there to say.... Life in music, if in my eyes the cello god is Rostropovich, Perlman is the violin god.

  • I honestly don't know how Perlman can fit his big fingers in those strings.

  • Beautifully played!

  • Marvellous !!!!!!!! This reminds me my father and my chilhood.

  • no, he didnt hurt his leg, he had polio, but think of how beautiful he can play with what kind of sond SITTING!

  • Did he hurt his leg? I mean I thought I heard somewhere that his leg is lame or something...

  • @samuelkim0814 he had polio when he was a child.... that is why he always walk with difficulty

  • no amount of training can show you how to play this like that. You must steal this ability and then good luck. for oh, this is like performing majic.

  • He is so smooth on his bow changes, you would not be able to tell when he changed strokes just by listening

  • His connection of notes is so subtle but effective in bringing the idea of unending melancholy..

    great emotions and interpretation

  • Just lovely!! Goes right in to my heart!!!'

  • ...ecco come si suona il violino....

  • Itzhak Perlman great artist

  • Tchaikovsky Gala St. Petersburg ,not Leningrad

  • im not sure when perlman played it. but maybe that time was name of Leningrard.

  • Great Perlman...

  • wooow BIG FLAT SOUND MAKES ME feel so sooo SAAAAAAAAAAd

  • Perfecta ejecucion¡¡¡¡ gracias por estos regalos divinos dios¡¡¡

  • Damn you !! ignorant

  • The golden tone of Mr Perlman, warm yet profound!

  • perfection

  • so beautiful, makes me cry

  • Amazing.....

    Shreding solist !

    Thank you for the uploading!!!

  • Ah. . . ya recuerdo, eras detrás del pedernal creciente,

bajo el dintel que cayó tantas veces cual , guillotina ¿Cuál guillotina?

  • Beautiful

  • People "play" the violin. Perlman gives it life.

I am yet to hear such sweet melody, or see another virtuoso handle this instrument like he does.

  • @rbjuliano

What about David Garrett?I found your comment to be very insulting

  • ...David Garrett is an idiot, and obviously, so are you.

Garrett is only famous because he's fast - and mind you, not talented fast, but shitty fast. You want fast? Add "fast" to anything and you get CRAP.

Add "fast" to food, and you get fast food. Add "fast" to sex duration and you get no relationship. Add fast to chess and you get garbage game. Add "fast" to music, and you get Garrett - whose only renown was to get into the Guiness Book of Records for raping the violin.

  • FANTASTIC COMMENT!

  • @rbjuliano you speak the truth brother

  • @rbjuliano I couldn't have said it better.

  • @rbjuliano You're absolutely right! Characters like Garret depress me and make me wonder about the state of "serious" music. How he attained such fame for so little is a wonder. I've been lucky enough to be in an orchestra backing Perlman and let me tell you: his ability is astonishing in person. This is the Cadillac of violin tone production. The air feels different when he plays. Simply a gift to humanity.

  • @rbjuliano What about Mr. Garret makes him an idiot just because he has a rock/pop feel to his music? Admittedly, I prefer Mr. Perlman's style....Dr. Perlman's style, excuse me, but David Garrett is talented in his own way.

  • @rbjuliano heifetz, oistrakh, vengerov, accardo, suk , haendel etc.. if you were talking about his fingers and his big hands ok.. no one can handle like him XD ahahahaha.. great perlman ^^

  • @rbjuliano yes, his violin sings. he has the best phrasing, in my opinion, and although he has a great technique he is never "virtuosistic" in the bad sense of the word.

  • @yglofmi what would be the bad sense of the word?

  • Well, said rbjuliano. Part of the reason his violin has such exquisite beauty is because it is the extension of his soul, and his soul is so full of beauty.

  • @rbjuliano While I haven't seen anyone play things as sweetly as perlman, there violinists who exhibit a superior technical mastery, such as Kogan or Heifetz. Listen to Kogan's Tchaikovsky concerto. Many says it's the best reading of the piece by anyone, and they have good reason to say so.

  • @rbjuliano great comment

  • this interpretation is rather disappointing. Perlman rushes through it too fast for my taste. Aaron Rosand plays it so much better, with more feeling, more soul, more richness of sound. you can find Rosand's version on iTunes.

  • My daughter have begun to play on violin. I have showed her Itzhak Perlman. He is excelent.!!!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW! there is soooo much yearning in this piece! i can feel it with every cell in my body. it's driving me mad! the fire of desire is burning in this treasure tchaikovsky created.

  • I thought it was A-ok!

  • I held my breath during those high trills. He can sure suck the life out of that instrument.

  • i would like to kiss sir Itzhak Perlman's hands and my favorite master tchaikovsky. i love you both.

  • I've always thought that people like Perlman should never die.

  • @jeffreykevinguitar ...i would settle for kissing Itzhaks' feet.

  • ..Seems the lady at 6:38 - 6:47 got too ..''melancolique''..:D

Ahh...I wish I were there instead of her !

  • you don't know the whole thing! that's tchaikovsky's muse, she just got very tired receiving that much attention and doing that much work too =D

    a funny moment indeed

  • Ha haa...seems you know a better story for that CHARMING LADY...:D

    I liked you response ..;-)

  • Realmente inacreditable !!!!!

  • Every time I have some difficulties with learning something on the violin (especially keeping finger down on one string whilst playing on next string) I keep reminding myself of Itzhak and his BIG hands and tell myself 'if he could do it, I can do it too' LOL LOL (only not as well of course :))

  • I do the exact same thing!

  • wow he really does have large hands!

i wish i had his hands, i play piano and cello and have about average sized hands for a girl. although i i had his hands, they would be hairy XD

  • In response to someone commenting on Perlman's big hands, it made me laugh. He was told to play a larger instrument when he was younger, like a cello, double bass or piano. I don't know what we would have done if he had switched to a different instrument though, pieces like this are priceless interpretations that can not be matched by any currently living violinists

  • ever stop and think about it? I do not plat an instrument, so maybe it is more awe inspiring to me. I look at that little instrument, made of wood, components fitted together. The strings, tensioned, the bow, the craftmanship. Then a man like all others in general, not perfect, just a man. All those things considered while observing the set-up. Then he begins to play, and play and play. I just marvel. Look at the cosmos. Listen to Itzhak Perlman and that little wooden box. Faith enabler.

  • MELANCOLIQUE>>MELANCHOLIC>>[melankolik], and ..- QUE is always the same ,like in ..unique,antique, boutique..etc :-)

  • How do you pronounce melancolique?

  • melancolique

  • Thanks, that's real helpful.

  • MAY-LAWN-KO-LEEK ;)

  • MEL-AN-COL-EEK.

Just like "melancholic," but replace the "ic" part with "eek."

    Did that help?

  • Oh, yeah- and don't make the "o" long. Make it nice and choppy.

  • I feel the melancholy in each note... I'm grieving and mourning too.... Tchaikovsky would love to hear his piece played by Perlman!

  • am I hearing serenade melancholique sounding patterns in the guy's violin playing?

I know techno uses the idea of making the beat sound somewhat like the title, or title it based on the beat, but does classical do this with some of the instruments?

as in matching the sounds in a way that matches, I don't know is it the tone, the pitch? whatever it is, it sometimes sounds like the title is being played out by the violin :o

  • His right hand is absolutely amazing.

  • his tone quality and sound is absolutely amazing

  • That violin seems to do EXACTLY what Itzak tells it to do. Amazing talent!

  • I love how classical music is universal. You can see French, Italian, and English all here on this video.

This man is truly amazing. How can he play with such huge hands???

  • PERLMAN !!! is a REAL, RARE ... PEARL :-)...I feel BLESSED ! every time I hear his playing .Thanks for posting !

  • Rare is perfect description.

  • beautif u l l ......o-o-)

  • oh esto es bellisimo T_T

  • harikulade....

  • His brain is free of his fingers..such passion and understanding....a master's master.

  • O som de Itzhak Perlman é inigualável, incrível e fantástico!!!!

  • I just saw him last night...wow..I'm still blown away by his performance!

  • Although many are great, Perlman has this extra emotion in his playing. He makes the violin convey emotion - joy and sadness. His playing is very cut and very sharp. It bleeds the feeling and emotion of the pieces.

  • Ouah!!!

Franchement , quelle interprétation magnifique !!

Juste je reste bouche baie !

  • Really, He´s my teacher, I love His interpretation.

  • i love this so much - just have to keep listenig. really perlman encapsulates the true pathos of this piece.

brings goosebumps to my skin EVERY time i listen to him playing it

  • May the God of Father Abraham bless Mr Perlman forever

  • Perlman makes this piece sound so intensely dark and rich--like the complex mood "melancholia" that isn't going to pass quickly and be swept under the rug

  • btw does anyone know what violin hes playing here -it has a really equsite sonorous tone

  • Probably the Soil Strad. Suppose to be one of the best strads made -shrugs- sure hope it would have some good tone. Could feed a whole town in africa with how much its worth.

  • nice -truely he makes it cry.

  • this is great. you can just tell hes really feeling the melancholy and emotion, i love his expressivity -playing and facial expression - better than heifetz version.

superb venue also. must be great to play somewhere like this

  • He was born to be a violinist ..... I love him !

  • BLESSED ITZHAK. HOW GOD LOVES YOU!

Abençoado Itzhak, como Deus te ama!

  • SOOO thrilling. All musicians can learn from this living legend.

  • this is just....brilliant

  • WHAT A PERFORMANCE...

  • Mr. Perlman did such a wonderful performance and interpretation of this piece!

I have performed this awesome piece by Tchiakovsky in one of my past violin recitals and it is one of my favorites!

  • Itzhak, a thousand delights to ones senses :-)

  • love the way he plays and the way he holds the bow..

  • I absolutely love this performance! Is it available on CD?

  • I wish I had his bow hand; he just uses the weight of the bow. He doesn't even use his pinky near the frog!

  • His bow hand/arm truly is magnificent to watch. My bowing hand is a darn hoof compared to his.

  • Hahaha, ah, thanks, that was amusing. :)

  • Je me demande toujours comment son archet ne tombe pas...!

  • ah sorry that was a stupid comment. -.- polio...=T

  • Polio at age 4. He uses crutches to walk. Though "handicapped" seems like an ill fitting description since he plays so very very well.

  • it's weird...

perlmans vibrato is so full and his way of playing so lovely and warm...

but i only cry listening to heifetz..

    no idea why.
