Why did United fall apart at Miami??? Its not like American is that much competition. They compete with eachother at Chicago O'Hare (UAL's headquarters), with United maintaining a consistent edge the past 20 years. A lot of the Star Alliance members have many flights in and out of Miami. It really is ridiculous though that there aren't flights to MIA from SFO, LAX, or DEN on United. American serves all of these, many times with 777s! There is room for competition.
What a shame. And look how dedicated the staff is too. United canceled a lot of great destinations. Big mistake. January of 2003. By March of that year United abandoned it's maintenance base in Indianapolis costing thousands of loyal employees their jobs and their homes. It seems a nightmare that never ends. I thought the bird flying right across the nose of the aircraft as it parked was very poignant somehow. Never seen that before.
I remember United was the airlines me & my family mostly used back in the better days when going to Caracas to visit family. After they ceased operation we used Aeropostal (few times) & Santa Barbara (just once) but weren't very reliable & now we fly American Airlines.
Hey , end of August 2008, United stops flying to Alaska- 1/3 the geological mass of the United States.... with full planes and overbookings on most flights we in Alaska were not "profitable enough." Gee and most flights left at 12.25 a.m. to Denver, Seattle and Chicago..
