John MacArthur on the Purpose Driven Life, Part 1

MacArthur's followers seem to listen to him because he seems like the lesser of two evils. You have the word of faith movement which is an adomination and then you have MacArthur's lordship salvation ideology which preaches self sacrifice for Christ. "Noble" in thought but blasphemous. If you are a true servant of Christ it's because it is in God's will and purpose, therefore, you shouldn't boast, as the Bible states. Stop denying God's Soverignty and the power of Jesus' death on the cross.

Word of Faith followers sound like this: I want and God, you will provide. Lordship salvation believers sound like this: I can deny myself and God, you will be impressed. What do both false doctrines have in common: they think they are in control. God says, Romans 9:15–16, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy." God is completely Sovereign, All Glory to Christ.

In this audio, MacArthur speaks a lot about the sacrifices a christian must make to serve God Jesus. He makes that christian sound like such an afflicted, unselfish warrior. But that is a falsehood and is blasphemous. We do not willing choose to make ourselves sacrificial warriors for God not only because we are sinners who are incapable of anything good but because we are NOT JESUS CHRIST, the Almighty who is the one who makes the decision of who will be His servant. So, GET OVER YOURSELVES.

Let's stop thinking we're capable of "self denial."If we have the desire to obey Him, it's because He FIRST seeked us.John 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me,but I have chosen you." His believers become righteous ONLY because of Christ through the Holy Spirit which is a merciful GIFT of God made possible by the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. Romans 8:30 "..And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified..."CHRIST JESUS ONLY JUSTIFIES sinners.

Where is our Master and God, Jesus Christ.He is definitely not in the word of faith movement and He is not in the lordship salvation movement. Word of faith followers have reduce God to santa claus and the lordship salvation believers seem to think Christ's death on the cross is not enough for salvation since they talk of "self denial" to reach godliness. Christ Jesus IS salvation,He sacrificed Himself to save His chosen.Not believing or accepting the truth is not only ungrateful but blasphemy.

self denial is not the heart of the gospel, for taken out of context it becomes the most brutal soul destroying legalism.

thus we see that MacArthur's error is merely the opposite error of the ME churches.

does Mac know what self denial is? If he thinks it is self repression and crushing of one;s own heart, then he has forsaken christ to be perfected in the flesh.

but this figures, His lordship salvation is pure legalism.

I always tell people to pray for them. Have you ever noticed these great men and women of God criticizing others? (Creflo Dollar, TD Jakes, Joel Osteen, Eddie Long, Fred Price, Joyce Meyer, Paul Jan Crouch) Did you ever notice that? Then why are these people judging them? Maybe because they are NOT popular? Are they jealous of one's success? Do you they even know how long it took for them to reach that level?

@TamilianPonnu So, was Paul in sin for calling out Hymenaeus and Philetus publicly by name in 2 Timothy 2:17-18? Was John wrong to publicly rebuke Diotrephes in 3 John 7? (Remember that the epistles would be read aloud to the entire church congregation.)

What about the prophets in the Old Testament who would say to the false prophets publicly and to their face that they were idolatrous?

Was Jesus sinning by insulting Herod in Luke 13:32, or His twice physically attacking the money-changers?

Ministry success, wealth and everything of theirs comes from God and it is HIS blessings in their lives and if they think it’s wrong, when God gave it to them, we can’t help it! As a Christian, we are not here to judge people. Why do we have so many judgmental people who have taken the role of an adjudicator? And what do they do? Controlling and evaluating others!? Let Christ judge the people. Don’t judge them.

For teaching false doctrine keeping the people away from the true glory of God for their own personal gain. We are to Judge righteously-John 7:24, & identify fruit-Matthew 7:15-20. We are to hold our preachers & teachers accountable to scripture. Type in false prophets exposed here on you tube, & you will see alot of them on your channel.

Final judgment must wait until the Lord comes; he will bring to light the dark secrets and expose the hidden purposes of people's minds. And then all will receive from God the praise they deserve.

Dying to self is not something we do out of our own. As Paul says, Who can deliver me from this body of sin, when I want to do right I keep doing the wrong things?? The WILL to do the right is of God and we are blessed when we have the Spirit of God helping us to do so! It is God who works in us both to WILL and to DO of His good pleasure.It depends(not exclusively)on what people choose. God has put before us both life and death but He advises us to chose life.We must not grieve the Holy Spirit!

Right after I got saved, I started going to this bible study that eventually became a church. It was a word of faith church, unfortunately and it literally destroyed me as far as my Christian faith and walk were concerned. Everyone, I can't say strongly enough, to beware of anyone who preaches a feel good message. Go back and read all the words of Jesus. None of them make you feel good. But all of them are spoken to make you truly free from sin.

I'm not saying that John MacArthur is wrong. I'm not saying that Jesus should be viewed as a cosmic bellboy. Yet it seems strange preaching that people who say they have peace and joy are not genuine followers of Jesus.

No one is saying people who have peace and joy are not genuine followers of Christ. But often time the reason given for coming to Christ is joy and happiness. Joy, happiness, peace, a better relationship, ...etc. is not the reason to come to Christ. I think most people who come to Christ with those motives are not Christians. They are false believers who profess their faith without posessing it. Fact is, if the church preached more and entertained less they would be out and never return, IMHO.

I think John serves Christ with honor, however It is easy to focus on certain phrases and Bible quotes to make someone seem like a heretic. For example, in this brief recording we find that John says that salvation is something to be bought. There is a "price to be paid" a "cost" involved, and it is not the blood of Christ but it is ME giving up stuff. ME centered. And the life I live in Jesus will have no peace and no joy but will be mostly defined by conflict with everyone around me.

I'm all for belief in salvation through faith in Christ alone, not based on works. However, repentance is the expression of faith. No works? No faith!

The two go hand in hand throughout the Bible, and especially in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Green, that is not a work at all. Christ is showing that it is impossible to follow Him on your own. You have to deny your self by giving Christ control. It is to do this on your own But with Him it is possible. This is not a work, we are not saved by works, this is just proof of the a true follower of Christ, faith with out works is dead. James 2:17

People become saved by repenting and believing in The Gospel of Jesus Christ, FAITH in Jesus Christ!

THEN the Christian should walk worthy of the calling with which he/she was called [Ephesians 4:1]. Luke 9:23-26 is about real Christian Living. Only those in Christ are called to live in His Way: dying to self daily!

That's a part of Repentance. But the part where John McArthur was saying that "taking up your cross and following Jesus is how people are SAVED..." is taking Luke 9:23-26 out of its proper context. An unbeliever is not saved by works. A person is saved by Repentance and Trusting in Christ. Apart from that correction, McArthur's message was good; the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not the me-centred health-wealth false gospels that abound in many false churches today! I think u might be taking what he was saying, out of context. John Mac Arthur knows we r saved by grace and not works. He was just clearifying that when you come 2 a relationship w/ JC it will not be an easy road, it will become harder. Rom 10:9 once you've TRULY(heart) done this, it's done. Santification hurts, but there is a peace and joy that comes from the H S, that only a believer can understand. The more wisdom u recieve from the Lord, the less u feel u need in this world anyway=)G Bls!

@greensatva In addition to that, good works must still be seen in a Christian's life because that is a MANIFESTATION of their faith. (Matthew 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits..") And these fruits are found in Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law." Therefore it is important to have good works. But always keep in mind that these WILL NOT save a person..

Thank u Lord for the life of Pastor Mac Arthur. I've learned a lot from his genuine teachings. I was so naive that i just learned about the wrong teachings of warren, osteen, meyer and many false teachers. Once again, John MacArthur tells it like it is. He is such a beacon of light in this dark world. I am a Jew by birth, and a Christian through rebirth.

I owe much to listening to John MacArthur and his always speaking the truth, even the hard truths of Christianity.

I am so tired of things like "Your Best Life Now", and all other books of that ilk.

I want the truth, even when it is a bitter pill. Give me the truth!
