Oh the Citadel is the only Military college in the united states that still holds the fouth class system. It is the military college of South Carolina
This isn't a federal military academy, like West Point or the Naval Academy. These are future officers of all the branches of service, when you graduate you can go into any branch you choose as an officer.
really? is this a goverment institution under the armed forces? whats the difference from this one to USMA, USNA, and USAFA? is this an army school, navy, marines, or air force?
Are these man are future officers or just enlisted?
im just curious, forgive me of too much asking..
i cant believe that america has really more to offer when it comes to military career..
just think of the breakdown as this. The Citadel doesn't look for just perfect 4.0 or perfect jocks. You need about 70% academics, so the 3.0-3.4 range is a good bet. 20% Athletics, 10% participation in school/community activities. Have an athletic or otherwise under your belt, about a 21 composite ACT, 1400 SAT if you choose that. Do community service whenever you can and that should help. Don't know how else I can tell ya what'll help you get in, but that's how I did.
Biased or not, Patton knew what he was talking about. Even though I have my own opinions about VMI and The Citadel, I feel that our schools are the last real military schools in this nation. Of course (with my bias) I'm going to say VMI is better overall, and I really do feel that it is, but looking at the big picture we are the last ones left in a world of political correctness and watering-down.
I think it's funny how the size of my entire school is the size of one of your classes. I bet you run into a new member of the same class every day. That's one of the great things about VMI that I enjoy. We know eachother, not just in our class, but everyone at this school knows of everyone. It's a family. By the way the Citadel cadets didn't stand at attention during the national anthem when they came for wrestling, aparently respect to the Colors has also been lost at The Citadel. Whatever.
I know I was trying to talk to two people in one response. From what I'm told there's a type of ranking system at the service academies that is updated every day or something like that. Nobody wants to help anybody because it might just help that person rise above themselves or something like that. Still a respectible institution, but I've seen all the service academies and The Citadel and there is nothing quite like what we have here at VMI, I'd never want to go anywhere else.
Lol that's fine, sure that's your personal preference choice but officers come out of all of the military/service academies and I think all are respectable institutions...but go Navy
I agree with you. Generally if you find yourself at any of the Service Academies or the Senior Military Colleges, you're probably at least one step ahead of the average college student in some way. The rivarly will always exist but in the end we're serving the same country and same people. Being a soldier, I feel it's my duty though to say, SINK NAVY. Take care.
Hey, Holier than thou VMI jackass... The entire SC corps of cadets is about 2000 students and VMI is at around 1200 and trying to build to 1500. Get over yourself. VMI is in drab boring lexington and reminds me of a prison. Its not exactly heaven on earth.
I was talking to a Naval Academy guy when I was talking about class size. We don't have the luxury of a huge town next door, when you're a Rat you're cut off from the world, no cell phones, "drab boring lexington," a town you can't even go out and visit b/c as a Rat you can only leave for church on Sunday. I bet you probably have AC in your rooms. By the way, no Citadel alum can explain why the Cadets didn't stand at attention during the Anthem when they came out for the wrestling match.
I dont go to the citadel. I will give you the not standing at attention thing. Inexcusable. Then again they are athletes and arent there for the military aspect...
Dont lie, there is absolutely nothing to do in lexington, and you do get a cell phone after you break out in early march or late february, a solid three to four months before the knob year is over. And you dont have AC in the citadel dorms.
You might want to read more carefully but I was supporting and agreeing with the claim that there is nothing to do in Lexington, but it doesn't matter anyway because as Rats you can't get off post except for rare occasions anyway.
As a Rat I was not allowed to have a cell phone, and even after breakout we were not allowed to have them either. There's quite a difference between the two schools, the advisarial system being one of them. We all serve the same country anyway, that's what counts.
I don't really have an opinion on it because I don't know much about it. One of our AF officers here is a norwich alum, and he's pretty squared away. The rivarly will always be there, but either way we're all academy/senior military college cadets striving to serve the same country. I'm more concerned about working together when I commission and get in the service. Either way you go, it's a good goal to aspire to. Rah Virginia Mil
2012 can suck it, you are an embarassment. 'request better judgement'? who the hell says that kinda crap. 'i've been hazed, they made me do pushups.' gimme a break. proof that the system is dead right here, its too bad.

"Give me an Army of Citadel graduates, and I'll win a battle, give me a handful of VMI men, and I'll win a war."
I am sure Patton wasn't biased at all now was he?? I mean he was at VMI for a year and all. You've got to be kidding me.
