i live in lb. im 16yr old male. yesterday police came to our apartment cause of a supposely loud noise or party. Long story short me and my mom wend downstairs my mom was pissed so i told her leave these pigs alone before they kill us. What the officer responded was "I bet your son knows"
New rule: Cops can't fire unless fired upon first. That would eliminate all cases like this and cut down the general public's fear of the police. It would also require cops that have enough guts and brains to properly handle criminals. That alone would get rid of 90% of the bullies on the police force.
If the police were incapable of handling the situation, they should have called my grandmother. She would have walked over and called out to the man and told him to "put that thing down because the police are terrified of a man holding a water spigot." He probably would have said "Oh, sorry" and put it down, and that would have been the end of it.
Could someone tell me why no LBPD have been fragged after all the unwarranted killings? Have Americans lost their balls? The LB review board is a joke. This department needs some major cleanup.

Bottom line. If you have the facts of this incident, not just this video, there is absolutely no way, you could argue, the police were just protecting themselves, but rather overstepping their duty and call the spade a spade.

@Corvius47 I don't think the intelligence of the police should be in question. Detectives and investigators are police as well. There is a high chain of command of officers who do not respond to these sorts of calls. Unfortunately, there was a judgment error on their part. I rarely call the police myself, but I don't expect them to show up with night-vision goggles because law enforcement doesn't get that much funding. I think what happened here, was that the police were caught off-guard.

If the police are going into a situation were they feel there safety is compromised take the time to assess it properly before taking action. No negotiation, no spotlight, no commands, no staying back at a safe distance. They approached not knowing the situation and reacted based on insufficient info . There are a few things the LBPD are not telling you such as the fact that this guy was aiming at thick shrubs and given he was drinking, most likely could NOT see there were police officers on the other side of that shrubbery. Second, they NEVER identified themselves, they shot first and they did so with lethal force not only using handguns but shotguns hitting him with EIGHT ROUNDS!
This is AFTER they had time to not only observe him but to observe and strategically plan a way out (as they are trained to do), giving themselves ample time to take cover and revaluate the situation after firing the first shot....EIGHT ROUNDS INTO A MAN WHO HAS DONE NOTHING ALL WITHOUT EVEN IDENTIFIFING YOURSELF???
When someone joins the police force it should be made very clear that there are risks involved. If these police officers are too afraid to take those risks, making it impossible to make quick, clear judgments, they need to go find a different line of work. It is NOT OK to make this type if mistake, EVER and say it is an acceptable risk. In this case it is the officers who should have taken the risk, announcing themselves FIRST even if that means a risk to their lives!
I do not use a handgun for a living as these officers do but even I have enough control of my gun to hit such a guy in the hand, arm or shoulder that in return would either knock the gun (or water nozzle) from his hand or at least make it very unlikely he would be able to aim and quickly hit anything with his first shot after which they could have opened fire with larger firearms such as their shotgun. The officers actions were just plan wrong!

The dispatcher received a call saying there is a man in a backyard with a gun. Even thought the man could not say what kind of a gun, he said that it was a gun. so the dispatcher re-lade the call to the officer, telling the officer that he is ...armed and is pointing a "so called gun" around. Bottom line. If you have the facts of this incident, not just this video, there is absolutely no way, you could argue, the police were just protecting themselves, but rather overstepping their duty and call the spade a spade.

@visualkei72 You're also completely disregarding what the officer said. They were still setting up a perimeter to deal with him in case it was a gun, and he tried to escape. During the process of setting up, to ensure the safety of others, and before they could assess the state of things with verbal communication, he pointed an unhooked hose nozzle at a police officer.
Why is it so hard to believe it looked like a gun? Who walks around with a detached hose nozzle pointing it at shit?

Obviously they don't have the management skills to assess situations properly and are trained to protect themselves first and ask questions later. Cops are not that smart!!! Why not use a loud speaker from a distance under cover before they approach? Why not have a scope or night vision to assess the situation properly? I am white and upper middle class and would not call the police.

@Corvius47 I don't think the intelligence of the police should be in question. Detectives and investigators are police as well. There is a high chain of command of officers who do not respond to these sorts of calls. Unfortunately, there was a judgment error on their part. I rarely call the police myself, but I don't expect them to show up with night-vision goggles because law enforcement doesn't get that much funding. I think what happened here, was that the police were caught off-guard.

If the police are going into a situation were they feel there safety is compromised take the time to assess it properly before taking action. No negotiation, no spotlight, no commands, no staying back at a safe distance. They approached not knowing the situation and reacted based on insufficient info . If they had only taken some time instead of being mavericks, this father would still be alive.

Someone should take the responsibility for this and it should be an officer involved. I guess I just can't stand the BS comments a lot of people make on here about police. It must suck to be hated by the public and criminals at the same time.

@visualkei72 I don't want to dislike anyone, I can't dislike the police as a whole because that's not healthy, but I am wary of them. I agree with you that they are underfunded and maybe under trained as a result. The tactics they use these days are so harsh and conversation seems less important to them. Although we have a raised expectation of law enforcement officers, citizens ignore the stresses and danger of the job. With all the people out there who hate the police, and openly express it, yet don't do a thing for their community. Police are underfunded, understaffed and unappreciated.
The lives they save or prevented crimes never make the news. Consider that please.

They have the Police-Firemans federal credit union.
They get twice the vacation time as you do.
They get to buy all the toys, Motor Homes-Quads-Boats-SUVs-Ski doos. And dont pay any interest on the loans.

There are a few things the LBPD are not telling you such as the fact that this guy was aiming at thick shrubs and given he was drinking, most likely could NOT see there were police officers on the other side of that shrubbery. Second, they NEVER identified themselves, they shot first and they did so with lethal force not only using handguns but shotguns hitting him with EIGHT ROUNDS!

When someone joins the police force it should be made very clear that there are risks involved. If these police officers are too afraid to take those risks, making it impossible to make quick, clear judgments, they need to go find a different line of work. It is NOT OK to make this type if mistake, EVER and say it is an acceptable risk. In this case it is the officers who should have taken the risk, announcing themselves FIRST even if that means a risk to their lives!

I do not use a handgun for a living as these officers do but even I have enough control of my gun to hit such a guy in the hand, arm or shoulder that in return would either knock the gun (or water nozzle) from his hand or at least make it very unlikely he would be able to aim and quickly hit anything with his first shot after which they could have opened fire with larger firearms such as their shotgun. The officers actions were just plan wrong!

The dispatcher received a call saying there is a man in a backyard with a gun. Even thought the man could not say what kind of a gun, he said that it was a gun. so the dispatcher re-lade the call to the officer, telling the officer that he is ...armed and is pointing a "so called gun" around. That right there would raise a flag up to the officer that this is a high risk call. And that there is a man with a gun... Oh and the hose i do not believe was attached to the water gun.
