@jezkn: Jane Ray's illustrations encapsulates the message of Julie Gold's song simply but beautifully and Nanci Griifith's version always seemed the most genuine to me. My daughter loved the book and grew to love the song too. Thanks for your comments, but I can't take any credit. Other Jane Ray books are also worth looking out for.

@lennyw99 My eldest daughter discovered this song (Nancy Griffith version-but we didnt know it then) when she was little (1989?) and introduced it to me. So i cherish this memory too. I didnt know this book and only found out through YouTube that Nancy sang original (in the BEST version). I've now ordered a 'used' copy (from America - not available in this country even though Jane Ray is English!). And that's thanks to you. Amazing story how Julie wrote this song after struggling for ten years

@lennyw99 with her old piano freshly shipped from home and wrote it in one hour. Amazing what inspiration can do for you (as a song writer I can second that!). The whole story of 'From a Distance' seems to me to be inspirational in all respects - and I remember being entranced by it when she first played it to me ..... THANKS - (and to YouTube too .....)
