Howling like this is pack behavior and he's joining in with what he considers to be another member of the pack howling.
If it hurt his ears he'd be acting either more aggressive (barring teeth and low growling) or fearful (hiding, tail tuck, eye contact aversion).
Very lovely. :)

are you sure he's not singing because the noise bothers him? it seems very high-pitched to me and it looks as though he's suffering. better watch out for that.

This is the cutest thing ever! I have a brown Chesapeake Bay Retriever at home and this dog reminds me so much of him! This is so cute!
