Does anybody have any tips? I can't even hold down the first set of notes in the VERY beginning, without my ring finger touching the G string, stopping the sound!

How can I not touch other notes with my fingers so I can get a full nice sound? Without it getting muzzled? Hope you know what I mean...

You need to get used to barre stuff when playing pieces like this. There's lots of barre stuff later in this song but that's another thing. What I do, (though I really shouldn't) is hold my fingers at an angle so they just cover the G, B and E strings. Barre stuff's like riding a bike, you get the hang of it along the way. (Y)

i found it so hard to play the 3rd and 4th line defore i found this video. I also find it a lot easier if you keep your hand in the "f chord" position when you play the hammer on part of line 3, i just think the a minor gets in the way

yeah, it is. hold the pick like you normally would and use it to pluck the D string and I usually use my middle finger to pick the other strings. or if you really want to make it simple, just strum the different chords...it won't sound as nice but it will be easy

Thanks. I've played guitar for a while and this is the first time I've felt as if 'I know' the intro. You have a real gift for teaching.

Re the barred chords. No sweat on the electric but on the accoustic I bar across all strings and tuck my elbow into my body for support. Learning to bar all strings is a good habit as it's usefull for other songs, positions, etc. A bar chord is easiest when the other fingers are in position and then the bar finger put in place.

good lesson, but the slide isn't from the first fret its from the 4th or so you just bring your finger down on the string as its moving towards the 8th then you bring it back to the 7th.

this is really nice, but im having problems with the barre. I don't know if it's my guitar, but i have to press extremely hard to make the notes sound clear when holding barre thingy. i'm kinda new to guitar by the way, so it might just be me :p

practice...everybody thinks barres are impossible at first, but you'll get used to them. just concentrate on making every not clear and play slowly until you get better.

I physically can't do bar chords, so I just fret each string individually as I play.

How long have you been trying? Try turning your pointer finger to the left so the straight part is holding down the strings. Also check out how Frusciante and Hendrix play a lot of barre chords without barring their pointer finger. It gives the other fingers much more versatility. Check out under the bridge.
