My hair use to look EXACTLY like yours. Honestly, I did not care for the budding phase, but it didn't last long. I am glad that you are enjoying the journey.
Your hair loves water. In between washes, on a daily or every other day, I spray them with water, olive oil, and peppermint (essential oil). You can change up the oil. This gives them the water that they love for locking and it smells pretty good too.
I also keep my hair wrapped a lot. If it's hot, I use a wet bandana, which drys out.
yay! dreads got a stretchy, elastic, spotlight for 15 to 20 secs! lol. and yea, my baby locs be doing the pretty dread...well they don't rock yet... the pretty dread lean!

I stick to the same routine that i've been doing since 92' on my natural hair and locs and it continues to work for me. I haven't lost one loc yet! Not only have I not lost one loc, i'm not big on conditioning. Never have been really. And my hair is very healthy, so you're right it's what works for you!!!
