i feel great 2 be canadian because of what our veterans have fought for, and even though many of them died, their bravery and courage will keep us going throughout our lives...rest in peace.
It was a great moment..but from a soldier....we cannot dwell upon the past....we need to move forward....NOW...else we will suffer! I hope you know what I mean
My Grand father joined the Black watch and fought in WW1 and then spent 2 years there cleaning up the mess .
No war since was even remotely as hard on the troops
Stories get inflated about the medal winners ,many did great heroic things that did not get recorded. Especially at the Somme ,Verdun and Vimy ridge etc...
My grand father was wounded by shrapnel twice and took a bad dose of gas a few times.
And also, the four people who reeceived the Victoria cross did amazing things, you should all look them up. I read somewhere that pet. Milne took down those trenches single handedely by running in front of his allies. And one of the others cleared out a bomb shelter of 72 German all by himself, crazy brave
It's hard to believe, but when you see those dead body's on the ground, they just look like a part of the landscape. But everyone of the men walking by them was probably related or friends with one of those body's. Imagine if your friend was killed right in front of you and you couldn't do anything about it. It's just sad. God bless all the Canadian soldiers everywhere
While canadian Myself, And immensely proud of the accomplishments of Canada as a nation during the first World war. a few Error's leaked into this video. the first world war had nothing to do with freeing anybody, or preserving freedom. it was an entirely political machination brought on by an assasination and the German/austrian repsonse to said assasination. said response was a retributive action for an attack upon the Succession of the Austro-hungarian throne.
As such it's dificult to really peg a "right side" one can simply peg instigators. the commonwealth, due to Britain's Network of alliances, wound up supporting the War's instigator's rather then the nations wronged by those actions. The First would have been a much different war had Britain held stronger alliances to Germany and Austria then to France and by extension Serbia. the Post War economic rape of Germany would likely not have occured, and by extension, neither would hitler's rise.
Don't forget the inspiring leader!!: A man you'd want to serve and serve well, General Arthur Currie, militiaman, realtor, schoolteacher - the whole of the CEF wanted to fight for this man, a true TOP warrior leading man in the history of generals - no bull crap, and cared about his men too.
kain292 well done mate i have great uncles who fought and died at vimy ridge i have never been but will be going soon they emigrated to canada and within a few months went to france to fight and they never returned, i like the thought of people like you keeping the men,s memory alive well done and thanx,s for the video its real good
THANK YOU IAM THE FREE CANADIAN THANKS TO YOU I CANT TELL YOU HOW I FEEL.i BEEN TO VIMY AND I FALL TO MY KNEES.THANKS I WILL NEVER FOR GET THE ONES WHO NEVER CAME HOME THEY ARE IN MY HART IN TO THE END OF TIME....
Its kind of unfair though? Canada did not jump into the war. We did not have one Mckenzie say we are going to war by his decision, Canadian man wanted to go to war. After britain declared war on Germany, Canadians where loyal to their motherland of Britain so men enlisted to go fight alongside of her. Just goes to show how brave We Canadians really are.
I really don't understand what you're trying to say. First you say it's unfair then you say we wanted to go...
It's unfair in the fact that we had no choice, but the entire country (minus Quebec) wanted to go anyways, so we would've. English Canadians rallied to the call of the motherland, while many French Canadians tried to stay as far away from their motherland as possible.
These Remembrance videos are excellent. Too bad only computer literate or able individuals get to see them. Many of the veterans who would really understand and appreciate them don't think to look at a web site they believe is for the young
and not for their taste miss so much. Congrats. Would love to be able to download this type of stuff for Remembrance Day services for all to see.
Excellent video, very moving... but it's unfortunate that you chose to include a propaganda picture of a soldier being executed... acts of barbarity were committed by men from all participating nations, not just the Germans.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "large factors". But whatever the case, I don't see the point in getting sarcastic. I simply pointed out a fact about the war that I felt you were misrepresenting. I think many people derive their understanding of the battle from wartime propaganda and "historians" like Pierre Berton who simply rehashed those sentiments. I prefer the facts, and fortunately, I understand the battle from both perspectives.
No, I never said that you did a "bad job"; I think it's a very good video. I just felt that the use of an obvious work of propaganda misrepresented things to a certain degree. Yes, I will be making my own videos in the future; some will likely deal with certain aspects of Vimy drawing primarily from Canadian primary sources and some German sources as well.
An excellent presentation. I think you caught the feeling of the soldiers at that time and our pride and amazement at what they did so well. Well Done
Well when you attack with less men than the French LOST during the battle, wouldn't you be a little skeptical? Plus, we were colonials. Rabble. A rag-tag army.
If ever there was a place to experience in your lifetime then its Vimy Ridge and the Cemetries, it makes you think about the amount of bravery these young men had, to go to battle and fight for their country. such an amazing piece of history but at the same time sad at how many lost their lives.
i just went on a history trip to all the ww1 cemeteries and battlefields, it was interesting and sad , seeing the amount of men that gave their lives and the ages of some of them
Thank you very, very much. I find with the world that we live in today, that we as a whole, have lost touch. It is all about bullshit and greed. As a born and raised canadian with scottish and irish roots, I will always hope that the respect is carried forward. That within itself is asking alot. With respect, a proud canadian.
I have to say how beautiful and how moving was your video. The final images, of the poppy perfect. I have a painting in my dining room of a scene similar to the 2nd last of your images, a beautiful field with the popppies in the forground. I serves to remind me if not daily of the ultimate sacrifice. Take lots of photos on the trip. I, today feel so proud to be Canadian. And it is the youth of yesterday, Pte. Milne and the youth of today, you who help to foster that pride. Thanks. Bob
Very well put together. It is unimaginable to even contemplate the horror they had witnessed. However for they're valor and gallentry I have pledged to never forget what they have done on the Ridge and for Canada. On April 7th I will post my tribute to those men in Honour of the 90th Anniversery of Vimy. Watch the trailer I have posted. You will see it above if you scroll down. "From the Ridge" trailer it's called.
Good job on the video. I too an going to Vimy Ridge on April 5th. This video was much better than what i sent in as my dedication to my soldier. Good Job.
i am going on this trip too. thats an awesome video. its weird seeing the pictures of the battle fields and just think, we are going to be there in a month. crazy eh
Good job, Having walked the grounds at Vimy and many other battlefields in Europe, one gets taken back by the shear horror of war. If you want a real education, take a tour sometime!

Where is Chirac? He should pay respect to soldiers who liberated France. He is the head of the state, not the prime minister.

To tell you the truth, I'm glad the PM showed up instead. He spoke very well and eloquently, something which I don't think Chirac could've done.
