To all of you form lawyers please keep in mind one thing: the form is just a mnemonic. You cannot tell a person's skill just from looking at a video. You actually have to touch hands to feel his skill. A form is like a song - no two people will sing a song the same. And if you do your form just like your sifu you are probably just aping him without understanding the principles.
i am sorry this benny meng guys approach to wing chun is all wrong yes you are right his stance and everything is wide i feel sorry for anyone learning under him
haha really makes me laugh how people "who take wing chun classes" think they are better or know more than an acomplished master like Sifu Benny Meng. He doesn't just practice Yip man style so you cannot compare what you have learnt. I assure you he would kick your ass. The best kung fu isn't pretty.
@gnt10 I have met and trained with master Benny Meng. He is probably the most influential person to Wing Chun (ving tsun) in the 21st century. He is well qualified to perform these forms because he is one of the only people in the world to have trained with all the living grandmasters of this art. I would be more likely to say that your view of it here was challenged by poor production that could not show the energy he uses, and has used to instruct thousands of people. This is the bar.
@wingchunsifu83 Perhaps I do, I wouldn't turn down the opportunity if I had it. My point is I have touched hands with the man myself multiple times, and I wouldn't judge him off this. This is him dumbing it down slowing himself to keep it clear so pricks can get online and hate on it when he meant to give a basic lesson. I like Benny. He was cool and intelligent made it fun and kept it realistic. I wouldn't feel sorry for anyone that had the priviledge to train with him.
@gnt10 u really havent trainned with him, he knows the sistem very very well, better than others master he si very powerfull, and also i should say more about your coment but i prefer stay

Thanks for a great video that I will train to. I don't see why people have the credibility to pick things apart. Everyone is different and has a different body so one can't expect a tall guy to look the same or a short person. Me being 6'3" don't need to strike high up at all so my form must adjust to the opponent. Like Bruce Lee said "My style is to have no style" I really felt this video, not only did I see it, I connected with it. I will add it to my style! Thanks!
@ArtemisCho : I agree, his stance is too wide for my own taste to.
And his movements are not fluid. But it is from a tutorial video, so probably he exaggerated the movements, in order to break individual techniques down, so people can easily learn.
@ArtemisCho Also, there are different ways to practice the Siu Nim Tao. For example, when I practice Siu Nim Tao to cultivate my internal energy along with breathing, I move fluidly, and there is no starting - stopping point between techniques. When I practice it to build my muscles and tendon strength, I move more tensely, with some breaks between techniques.
@ArtemisCho Agreed, the stance seems a bit wide. I learned two-fist width between the knees (a rough guide) when in Kim Yeung Ma. However, his movements are crisp and precise with a bit of pause in between, not necessarily 'mechanical'. Probably because it's a tutorial. I've seen some sloppy biu jee deomonstrations out there...this isn't one of them. Nice.
@ArtemisCho errrr ok well it look fine to me everone has a differend bone struture so everyones stance will alwayz look a lil different than yours , i do practise my forms a lil calmer than that but teaching your body to have really good fast mucle memory is good too!
Do you even know who he is? Benny meng studied under moy yat, he runs an accomplished martial arts school, and has been credited by the hong kong martial arts association to teach wing chun, he is also caretaker of the wing chun museum. I thinkhe knows his stuff. Haters!
Great video and skill. All I can said is that just like once there was a great Karate Master said, "there is no right or wrong kata(form)". Everyone have the rights to have their own expression of form. There is no right or wrong Wing Chun form either. Ever since the founder Wu Mei Shi Tai and Ying Wing Chun, I believe there are countless variations of the 3 wing chun forms. Anyway still good job on ya 3 wing chun forms.
@Acification95 its not for combat, they build a strong stance, and trains your arms to move towards your opponents center-line using the most direct path, rather than just machine gun punching with bad technique

My suggestion to all is to watch the Ip Man 2 special features. Phil Morris (Hawkings Cheung's pupil) explains the discrepancies in the different forms, forms are expressive and should be interpreted by each individual in their own way. If you haven't learnt what is exactly shown here, don't worry, it's like everything, everyone does things slightly differently and relies on different parts of what they learn for effectiveness. For example i do thigns differently to my instructor.
This is as good as it gets. Ip Man was not the only wing chun style. It goes much deeper then that. His style is one of the best. You will find differences between Masters. They are all right if you ask me. Master Meng is first class. He is the real deal. Don't talk down because it's not the way you do it. Show him the respect he deserves.
Sifu Benny Meng has studied several lines of Wing Chun. GM Moy Yat was the last line that he studied under, if I'm correct. He is a top notch WC instructor and you folks that are hating need to do your research on him before you speak. Just my opinion.
benny mengs forms are perfect. his techniques are perfect. if you ever seen him play chi sao or spar in live action and responses. his form and his posture are one of the best ive seen!!
Had a Cantonese friend who recently passed away who taught me Sil Lum Tao and basics. He was going to teach me more. I'm going to use this clip to help learn these forms to remember my friend..
It was great to find this post as I try to learn forms. The different camera angles are helpful in seeing the moves clearly. Many thanks for this post!
I'm from Yip Man branch, thanks for the three awesome forms, I'm sure a lot people enjoy this . Your people should not talk shit about the music, be respect!
Thank you for your video. I am taking Kung fu at my college. It is my first semester of wing chun. I am a beginner and i was told to practice the form at home.I looked at a lot of the videos but your man is the only one who does it the same way as my sifu.
alot of people saying its tense like its a bad reason, look at his form theres no wasted movement but boi im just an enthusiast, fort it was pretty sweet
I love the music during the first 2 forms. I feel like I'm in an old Starsky and Hutch episode. But seriously, good stuff. Benny Meng definitely knows his stuff.
i also think that a lot of stuff is diffrent from what i learned, especially in basic movements and therefore in the idea of how to deal with an attack
but it doesnt have to mean that it is bad, as long as it works in the entire system that guy teaches, it can be good.
These are good forms. Best example of a pure line I have seen among what I can find. I do not study Wing Chun, but I do study a southern style and for any Wing Chun students who see this and wonder why it's different it is, in my opinion, because this is the best I've seen so far.
I REALLY LIKE THESE FORMS! I've watched some others, but these are great. I see centerline, elbow position, box 1 wrist control, hip rotation, hyun sau, jut sau, head movement...... on an on...
Good show of wing chun! Definitely outshines other wing chun demos. I study under Francis Fong from the Jiu Wan line.
I just started Wing Chun, I study under Sifu Francis Fong, and he was under Jiu Wan who originally studied with Yip Man, and always called Yip Man his superior, and would even train with Yip Man at his school in Hong Kong, Many many many years after they met at their younger ages, Currently I have only studied the first form and this is almost identical to our version, except out sifu preaches on how slow we need to go. Very good job this gives me some insight on what i have to look forward to
@Illuvatar93 I don't think you know what you are looking at or what to look for in this matter. This is one of the best examples of proper footwork I've seen in a long time.
he likes a robot, only have a 1 horse, dont move, not naturally and realistic movements, the touken must be fluid, more real...
very very much wing chun styles...yip man, wong sun leun,,, but the ORIGINAL, THE MOST EFFECTIVE, THE MOST DINAMIC, THE MOST COMPLETE, THE ORIGINAL, THE FATHER OF ALL STYLES IS SHAOLIN WENG CHUN KUEN AND ALL HER FAMILYES. ALL MY RESPECT FOR OTHER SUB STYLES FROM A SHAOLIN WENG CHUN KUEN- CHU´S FAMILY DISCIPLE
r u sure that the biu ji form is correct? cuz the forms that u've done were completely different from mine, your was like um.... idk how to say this but it doesn't really look like it, i mean in some of ur forms ur hands were too high
@Saikejo It's not me. I am sure that the form is correct, according to the new modification of sifu Ip Man in the last years of his teaching.
However, it is not the original form anymore. When I travel from schools to schools, there are differences in the ways, in the sequences of movements, and there are also different movements that are not in this form.
All the comments regarding to techniques, sequences, performances ...etc ... are welcome. Personal-attack comments are not.
@Saikejo every forms are different depending on who you learn it from or which schools you go to or what area in China or its just some wannabe grandmaster who wanna be different and added stuff or took away stuff from the form.
@Saikejo I think these forms are done well and they're pretty close to Ip Man's. I've seen many different applications of the various techniques in these forms along with subtle and drastic variations. If you're going to understand someone and their art, you can't say it's wrong or right. You view it, just as it is and in the spirit of knowledge and growth apply it to your own understanding. This is how we all grow and how Wing Chun can grow with us.
@JackTantrum i understand but i checked it again and i see a big difference on how the forms are taught to me. I'm sorry if i sound rude but there are lots of differences with the forms that this master is doing. I'm learning traditional wing chun like exactly how master Ip man's form would look like
@JackTantrum i understand but i checked it again and i see a big difference on how the forms are taught to me. I'm sorry if i sound rude but there are lots of differences with the forms that this master is doing. I'm learning traditional wing chun like exactly how master Ip man's form would look like. This was before the innovation of wing chun
Sifu Meng is my teacher. Huber Heights, OH branch of Meng's Martial Arts.
I'm only an orange belt, and on the Shaolin track, not the Wing Chun track, but what I can tell you is if you ask him he will explain every move. He's been teaching martial arts longer than I've been alive (I'm 24), and I'd trust his word over most anybody's.
@TanSauNg2008 Please do not start challenging. This only proves us to be hot headed and unlearned in the true point of Wing Chun. I see that he has complete control over his body and his stances are strong. The forms do varie as there are many diffrent schools and interpretations of Wing Chun.
lol @ the wide stance and moving 2 feet at once to turn. Was invented by a women which makes u have a natural narrow stance. Try getting hit/pushed moving 2 feet at once while turning. You will find out its bad stability/balance. Turning 1 foot at a time will help u absorb an attack as opposed to turning 2 feet at once which can force u to fight against the incoming force. Not the goal of Wing Chun.
@mp240sx The yi jee kiu yiu ma was not meant to be like the sei ping ma where you try to hold your stance and not move like a tree. It was meant to be versatile and light, but rooted enough to be powerful. Hence, WC; don't fight force with force. When you turn side to side you move both feet because of power transference. Moving one foot at a time you would lose your base and power
I know its a big deal about the copyright stuff, but if this hadn't been posted I never would have known who he was or all the stuff I looked up about him and Wing Chun....
@Zazquatch1 He moves quickly like a machine. His movements are sharp and with purpose. He seems to be able to stop and change at will. This is good Wing Chun.
Thank you to Master Meng for sharing these forms. Much respect, it was my honor to train ving tsun with him. There is a depth in his research and application of the VT concepts that can't be easily discerned through watching a few forms. I encourage anyone with a genuine interest in Ving Tsun to contact one of his schools.
Well done Sifu Benny Ming, there are few WC masters in the world who have the ability to see outside of the traditional mess that WC is today. Your insights and knowledge has come from decades of research into this alluring and often misunderstood art. It is important for viewers to understand that WC is a simplified Kung Fu system designed solely to bring down Manchurian solders, nothing more than that. Ridiculous comments on form and weight placement seem trivial and insignificant.
I had the privligde of meeting this man and he is the real deal. His movments and structures are so precise it's machine like, he has a presence you can literally feel, and on top of that hes one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet
Hi meet Si-Hing Benny Ming in the mid 1980s at (our) Sifu Moy Yat's Chinatown school. I think what he has done for the Ving Tsun world is outstanding. Enought said.
Muitos comentários precipitados... É da natureza do homem rejeitar o que lhe é estranho, o que não justifica a falta de respeito com o Mestre Meng, uma das maiores autoridades no âmbito do Kung Fu mundial.
adolfobremen: I agree with you. Master Benny Meng is one of some masters that I respect very much. He has a very thorough understanding of Wing Chun principles and a very broad knowledge.
However, those forms he performed in this clip are not his best, and can be improved.
But overall, my skill cannot be compared to even some of his students.
there are clips 1000 form where you can watch, really boring now and then as a bad representation! i must truly say, of social WT styles can I find the Wing Chun style on the poorest. Furthermore, since her those who most rend the neck and then get on the snout ... It still remembers ... Boztepe SG 6 against William Cheung "Sifu" ... times are a little quieter ... trained diligently!
if your legs still a bit further apart take, you're the first to form in his Spagath shows ... IRAS practicing first, then the straight thumb (vertical not diagonally) ... Have fun
You missed the subtitle for "Chum Kiu"what a pity!!!

stance is too wide..movements not precise enough..moving too quickly.
those are the kind of statements he'd get from a REAL Sifu like mine
cmon people, almost anything you find on the internet involving wing chun is off. just get an instructor if you want to learn it.

these mistakes seem intentional
1.when geting in to the basic stance he bonces
2. stance is to wide
3.first tan-sau(block) seems very wrong, as well as the timing to swich to gaun-sau(atacking block)
4.the second tan-sau is way to high, normaly both tan's in siu-nim-tau at about the same height
5.strike, the distance from the body at the begining of the strike is to low as well as the angle of the fist
6.the hand movement after the punch seems a bit wrong
7.lan-sau is wrong
there is more...

if u put ur weight one by one into each foot it make u able to turn the
unpressured foot and not depend on the relief of the ground^^

very very much wing chun styles...yip man, wong sun leun,,, but the ORIGINAL, THE MOST EFFECTIVE, THE MOST DINAMIC, THE MOST COMPLETE, THE ORIGINAL, THE FATHER OF ALL STYLES IS SHAOLIN WENG CHUN KUEN AND ALL HER FAMILYES.

(sorry if i sound like a asshole or something)
Saikejo 1 year ago
@Saikejo It's not me. I am sure that the form is correct, according to the new modification of sifu Ip Man in the last years of his teaching.
However, it is not the original form anymore. When I travel from schools to schools, there are differences in the ways, in the sequences of movements, and there are also different movements that are not in this form.
All the comments regarding to techniques, sequences, performances ...etc ... are welcome. Personal-attack comments are not.

@TanSauNg2008 o but now i don't understand how those forms are useful in combats anymore unlike the old traditional ones
Saikejo 1 year ago
@TanSauNg2008 no way, what have i've been learning then? everything that i've learned is being replaced
Saikejo 1 year ago
Every school does things a bit differently.
Ip Man's students made changes as well.
lordtains 1 year ago
@Saikejo every forms are different depending on who you learn it from or which schools you go to or what area in China or its just some wannabe grandmaster who wanna be different and added stuff or took away stuff from the form.
Nothing is the same
Nhia89 1 year ago
@Saikejo I think these forms are done well and they're pretty close to Ip Man's. I've seen many different applications of the various techniques in these forms along with subtle and drastic variations. If you're going to understand someone and their art, you can't say it's wrong or right. You view it, just as it is and in the spirit of knowledge and growth apply it to your own understanding. This is how we all grow and how Wing Chun can grow with us.
JackTantrum 1 year ago
@JackTantrum i understand but i checked it again and i see a big difference on how the forms are taught to me. I'm sorry if i sound rude but there are lots of differences with the forms that this master is doing. I'm learning traditional wing chun like exactly how master Ip man's form would look like

Sifu Meng is my teacher. Huber Heights, OH branch of Meng's Martial Arts.
I'm only an orange belt, and on the Shaolin track, not the Wing Chun track, but what I can tell you is if you ask him he will explain every move. He's been teaching martial arts longer than I've been alive (I'm 24), and I'd trust his word over most anybody's.

mp240sx: In the video is not me, and I don't care much about whoever talks whatever about sifu Benny Meng.
However, I believe that your knowledge about Wing Chun, especially about turning feet, is extremely wrong.
Want to prove it in a fight? :D

@TanSauNg2008 Please do not start challenging. This only proves us to be hot headed and unlearned in the true point of Wing Chun. I see that he has complete control over his body and his stances are strong. The forms do varie as there are many diffrent schools and interpretations of Wing Chun.
mrshitcan1 1 year ago
lol @ the wide stance and moving 2 feet at once to turn. Not the goal of Wing Chun.
mp240sx 2 years ago
you are flat wrong
bknives 2 years ago
@mp240sx The yi jee kiu yiu ma was not meant to be like the sei ping ma where you try to hold your stance and not move like a tree. It was meant to be versatile and light, but rooted enough to be powerful. Hence, WC; don't fight force with force. When you turn side to side you move both feet because of power transference. Moving one foot at a time you would lose your base and power

@Zazquatch1 He moves quickly like a machine. His movements are sharp and with purpose. He seems to be able to stop and change at will. This is good Wing Chun.

taocircle 2 years ago

Muitos comentários precipitados... É da natureza do homem rejeitar o que lhe é estranho, o que não justifica a falta de respeito com o Mestre Meng, uma das maiores autoridades no âmbito do Kung Fu mundial.
adolfobremen 3 years ago
adolfobremen: I agree with you.
