  • "And I know there are a lot of people out there who don't believe int he war, that's your right. You don't have to believe in it, but while they're over there, we have to support them."

Never been a more correct statement, Mr. Cherry! Thanks so much! =)

  • Hey here's another one!

"It isn't politically correct to even discuss this in the services, but a large percentage of women soldiers are electively aborting their fetuses after they've served their purpose of enabling them to avoid their tour of duty in operation Desert Storm...It is wrong to use a fetus to shirk the responsibilities for which you have signed up, and then to kill that fetus."

  • I've cried a few times watching coaches corner, love it. Thanks don, thank you Canada

  • Everyone they shown who died in the service of canadian military operations. They are all men. Not one woman.

  • @Razlo5000 5:32 nichola goddard Since this video two others have also given their lives in service to Canada. Many women throughout the history of Canada have given their lives but this video was about Afghanistan and up to 2006.

  • @iluvdesmond

Facts are, the number of women in war PALES in comparison to the number of men fighting in war. Moreover, women fighting in war are exempt from the most dangerous positions simply because women have proven to be a liability in boot camp. Most of the deaths of women at war are due to accidents and/or illness.

  • @Razlo5000 What you say is an insult to every woman serving equally in the Canadian Forces. But, you are not even Canadian so how in the world would you know anything about our good men and WOMEN. How ridiculous you are! Go away!

  • @iluvdesmond

What I say is the truth about every woman serving in the armed forces everywhere in the world.

I AM CANADIAN, you clueless putz.

If you did even a small amount of actual research (not just googleing shit) you would know these politically incorrect statements are true.

  • You know I like Don...

  • God love them. Thanks Don, this is why I have been watching Don Cherry my hole life. It's the big reason why I love hockey so much.

  • big respect to coaches corner but even bigger respect to all our soldiers and their efforts which have done so much, but im realy happy we will bring them home soon.

  • Very decent. Thanks Don for honouring those who deserve it. God bless the fallen soldiers.

  • good stuff

  • God bless those guys, fighting for the best country in the world. Deployed soldiers make a sacrifice most of us will never know. Thanks again to Don for a fitting tribute

  • @docforrest Hey's totally right when a country's first responsibility is to the troops and those who are wounded who come back. It's a shame the crap that the vets and wounded troops have to go through in the US; I mean we fail to give these guys proper medical care that THEY (not fat slobs like the rest of us but THEM people who went through bombs and have no hearing, no legs, no hands) need...Thanks Don for fighting their fight

  • I remember watching this with my dad. We always watched hockey night in Canada. When they shown the first person in the tribute my dad started to cry. My dad knew his father and I'll never forget what he said, "Boy, he really looks like his father." Then out of nowhere he started to cry. I never seen that side of my dad before, it was heartbreaking.

I salute the brave men and women. I wish them all a safe and quick return back home.

Remember remember the 11th of November.

  • did he fight in another war with the person's father?

  • no, I think my dad said his father is retired.

I also think he said he either lives in a small town of Alexandria..I believe he said that anyways...

  • I think the only song I get more passionate about than The Maple Leaf Forever is O Canada its self.

  • So young these boys are

  • Class act, mr.cherry is

  • read christie blatchford's "fifteen days". it puts a real personal spin on these guys' lives in afghanistan. this tribute above is great, but when you read this first-hand account of the reporter's interviews with our troops, and those who died, i guarantee even the toughest of you guys will be reaching for the kleenex. whether you believe they should be there (i personally don't) or not, they are/were serving their country, and deserve our respect.

  • They didn't pick their spots ... good point. Thanks for being ready to go, guys.

  • Grapes is a stand up guy, and those boys, and girls, are the definition of stand up guys.

  • Bravo Zulu Grapes !!!!

  • IF they didn`t give there lives in world war 1 and two we`d all be speaking German.

  • to bad

  • Thanks Don! Imagine a father or mother seeing this...... Just think about it!....Im not pro war but i have to give SO MUCH THANKS TO THE CANADIANS WHO GAVE THIER LIVES!!!!

  • God bless those brave souls who sacrifice everything and fight on our country's behalf. I have my own questions about the validity of this conflict, but as Don says, while they're there we HAVE to support our troops.

    Go Canada!

  • As an American hockey fan, I've always enjoyed watching "Hockey Night in Canada". Not only for the great hockey coverage, but for "Coach's Corner" and the "Satellite Hotstove". And I had the God given fortune to see this episode of "Coach's Corner" on Nov 11. Suddenly, the hockey game wasn't important anymore. The best tribute I have ever seen!!!! Your right Don, GOD BLESS THEM!!!!!!

  • God Bless The Troops. And thank goodness for Don Cherry. Someone who tells it like it is, supports the troops, and likes old-time real hockey. Hockey will be dead soon, if old time hockey is not promoted. Western culture will be dead without the troops.

  • I dont like the war, but I Like Don, he wears it on his sleave, and youve got to respect that, also I wouldnt hold it against the men and women serving. its what they pledged to do. Our government has made a choice. we could do things better? yes! Thank you. lets try and make things better. Respect Canadiana!!!!

  • God Bless our soldiers overseas!

  • nobody is beheading women. This terrible treatment is only for men.

  • no, they just beat them and kill them...it's called honour killing...and it's happening all over the world

  • being from canada and living in australia i have quite a few friends from the middle east and they laugh that everyone thinks people do this shit with the women and such. its just in saudi arabia not afgahnistan. why doesn't anyone go after them they ask? oh thats right they have oil. they don't even care what we think anyhow since we all act the same its just the higher powers doing what they want.

  • It was November the 11th you tool. Does that not mean anything to you?

  • don's got his heart in the right place even if his mouth isn't

  • hey stanleycup, go f*** urself. u obviously have no heart and don't give a shit about anything but ur own f***ing self, u cunt!

  • Your a fuckin pig! Its coaches coaches corner and he is the coach and its his segment!

  • WTF are you talking about?

  • I cant rememmber i was drunk.... but i think someone was complaining about this?

  • Sorry folks...Canadian troops are not "peacekeeping" in Afghanistan. anybody who thinks that is naive and blind to what is really happening.

  • sometimes to get peace, you need war. i know it's hard for a leftist suburbanite who has no military training/education to realize that, but it's true. sometimes to get peace for thousands, you need to shoot at ten violent people.

  • phobal is right. The austerity of those killed will not want to get revenge on Canada because we brought them peace by killing their fathers.

  • yes, so let's just let their fathers reign terror. after all, avril's comments aren't fallacious enough.

  • Sometimes to get peace, you need to stop destabilizing deeply seated regions. phobal's comments need more nonsequiturs and slippery slope fallacies.

  • Perhaps leftists might understand after all since they too enjoy liberal (and wasteful) public expenditure.

  • yeah! deeply seated like the iron curtain and the third reich!

  • Afghanistan: world's emerging dominant superpower... BEWARE!

  • that's all you got? lawl.

  • The point was that they're not equivalent circumstances. WWII is not like Afghanistan or Iraq. Period. WWII was a necessity in protecting the democracy from being encroached by the Third Reich- it served a functional purpose. The men who fought in battle were embarking on missions which entailed a certain death in many cases. These men are the true heroes.

  • However, the glorification of soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq is as irrational as the glorification of fire fighters. They're both jobs that entail as much risk as getting into a car in the morning and driving to work- the chances of dying are very minimal.

  • where in iraq, and afganistan, we, unfortanatly, were dragged in by the U.S, we are keeping peace unlike the U.S.

    -Proud to be Canadian

  • shut up, you guys were sucking up to US.you guys are causing more troubles for US.

  • Are you kidding me?! You, krnboy1009, are a disgrace.

  • so true...out troops kust seem to not to be able to catch the bombs you yanks drop on our troops.

    pathetically misinformed ignoranus.

  • Good man!

  • pathetically misinformed ignoranus! so true that you are......

  • is this for me? 'cause if it is you owe me an apology. if it's for the ignorant yank, then by all means, carry on.

  • my bad then

  • it's cool. today we don't quarrel. today we show respect.

  • Exactly!

  • Oh My God!!! You got the segment that has my cousin! Thanks so much and I am adding it to my favorites. Nathan Smith RIP!!!

  • Great Segment. I agree with Don Cherry, it don't matter if you agree with the war or not, when your troops are there, you better support them. It's disgusting how some Americans have spit on their own troops when they come home. Down right classless.

Great job by Don to show those valiant men and women.

  • It's a shame here in Montreal how people hate the guy. He in my opinion, is one of the greatest Canadians! Hoe does wonderful segments like this, and is hated because he said visors are for French people...

  • If you are wondering why he was voted TOP 10 CANADIAN THIS IS WHY!

  • this was actually pretty well done. I'm impressed with Don Cherry. And the troops.

  • What is the bagpipe music playing at the beginning of the tribute? I really want to know.

  • "The Maple Leaf Forever"

  • If my history serves me correct, it was an old Canadian anthem written in 1867 - Confederation (Which established a new country called "The Dominion Of Canada". The rest is history). We didn't technically have a national anthem until years later, so "The Maple Leaf Forever" served as an unofficial national anthem.

The horn tribute is called "Last Post" and is played at 11:00am, 11/11. It is also played for soldier's funerals, much like the american "Taps".

  • The lyrics to "Maple Leaf Forever" In days of yore, from Britain's shore, Wolfe, the dauntless hero came, And planted firm Britannia's flag, On Canada's fair domain. Here may it wave, our boast, our pride, And joined in love together, The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined, The Maple Leaf forever! Chorus: The Maple Leaf, our emblem dear, The Maple Leaf forever! God save our Queen, and Heaven bless, The Maple Leaf forever!
  • At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane,

Our brave fathers, side by side,

For freedom, homes, and loved ones dear,

    Firmly stood and nobly died;

And those dear rights which they maintained,

We swear to yield them never!

    Our watchword evermore shall be,

    The Maple Leaf forever!

  • I am not positive but I think its called " The Maple Leaf Forever ". In fact , I am almost positive.

Diane Marie ( Cape Breton Island )

  • Don Cherry , what a great guy. I nearly cried.

  • Wow... What a moving segment... I was crying...

  • yes!

  • i agree with everyone.but we also must remember the ones that came before.paved the way for all of us in WW2 and WW1.those heros cant be forgotten either.Great job Don and bravo to whoever posted this

  • Bravo Zulu

  • Don Cherry is a great Canadian (Ron too). Too bad Canada is lacking patriots. BTW Patriot doesn't mean you have to support the war, but it does mean you support the troops. God Bless Canada and the all the boys over there and the ones shown at the end of this segment.

  • Gotta love cherry.
