the masks arent plastic, their metal infused glass which provide protection unbreakable to a lot of damage, I'm pretty sure a hammer couldn't break one completely
@paranoiuhh Trust me dude, this isn't the way Lyoto Machida trains. This does look like it could be fun if I could talk my instructors into letting us practice it with a little less protective gear and a lot more technique.
wow dat teacher must suk evry students ballz 1 by 1 and treat dem like kings and tell them theyre ready for their next belt to graduate those imbeciles
I KNOW it looks like two street fighters pretending to know martial arts, sure, there probably ok at actual fighting, but this has no soul, no nothing. thats why you gotta do years of kata and forms before learning how to really fight, its gotta look like the art your doing.
Where do you practice If your seperating Zendokai into "Zen Do Kai" then you likely practice the Australian variant which is 100% different, as mentioned by the video poster already.
This is Japanese Zendokia. Read the kanji on the damn gi if you think otherwise.
ah i see and yes i do train in Australia. Bob Jones zen do kai and its a very different art, hence my confusion.i wasn't aware there was a Japanese zendokai. and where does the video poster mention this difference? Also i don't read kanji
i cant wait til i can get to the standard of fighting in a tournament, i used to fight when i was young in the under 13s division.. but i think im not as fit as i used to be. im turning 21 now, and hopefully i will be able to fight alot better haha =).. sensei says im a natural, but we'll see... i hope my 175cm 75kg helps
And also, more people should have some degree of respect. I mean, you competed in a full contact competition. Headgear or not, that takes heart to do. And your comment about the sensei tall tales is very true; someone could be learning under a great master, but it doesn't mean that they're even a decent practitioner.
Despite the fact that the punching technique was kind of sloppy at times, I think that this video was pretty good overall. I'm glad to see that there is some sort of karate competition that is as realistic as this. Here, in the states, its all point sparring. You had some nice reversals on the ground!
haha that looks fun no feet gear or hand gear...good job but one thing when they open their body forward, dont try to do a round kick cuz ur just hit arms. SIDE KICK SHIT OUT OF HIM AND END IT. (break some ribs)
Not bad. As for the guy with "Kung Fu", if he was truely IN Kung Fu, he'd know thtat Kung Fu isn't the real word for it, it is Chuan Fa. (That was at the dude with the comment.) Back to you, person who posted this video. You would have done better to put some music up... otherwise, it's not a bad video. Good job. (More or less)
"I was once taught karate by a master who could break baseball bats with his toe"----- STUPID DUDE
Man, you're either VERY naive or just plain stupid, or of cours you oculd be some fat nerd, sitting at home, wishing he started doing MA when he was a child, and all you do is search for vids on youtube and read MA ebooks while ddrinking cola
Egnlsih is still my fourth language, and when you read stupid comments on youtube for a while, you kinda get the idea that many are stupid enough to say stuff like that^^
Not sure how to say it in english, prehaps someone better at it might translate :P
Yeah, and I was once taught karate by a master who could break baseball bats with his toe. And another who breaks sheets of concrete stacked a foot thick with his fist. These stories are all well and good, but they say little about my own experience. Everyone's sensei has similar tales. I have no interest in trying to argue whose daddy can beat up whose.
Thats funny, Im giving you an answer to some thing you seem to think I know nothing about??? Not putting out a challenge to sensei V sensei. You've veered way off the main topic. Calm down lol Have a beer lol laters lol
Dude we study zendokai ryu karatedo in JAPAN, and you study in New Zealand at the Academy of Combat" and want to tell us about Japanese karate? Dont be ridiculous! Also while "putting out a challenge to sensei V sensei"? Hah.
So please dont embarrass yourself by saying I know nothing about it and if you want to know who my master is then look for geoff aitken in new zealdn who owns the academy of combat. And at the end of all that, best of luck with all your martial arts training :), later.
Because unless you want a broken nose/mashed up face, you wear head gear. Higher ranks sometimes wear head protectors without masks, though, for special fights. What I think is ridiculous is you making comments on something you clearly know next to nothing about. God bless the intarweb!
Excuse me, my chief instructor is a 6th dan in zen do kai and your telling me I know nothing about it...lol nice one nigel lol hes also a black belt in machado/bjj and a 3rd dan in shootfighting(mma). So yes I do know about it. Back in his days there was no head gear and full contact was FULL contact. Thats where my argument comes from, my chief instructor and a ZDK master. Saying I know nothing about it is a ridiculous assumption considering you dont even know what I do...lol
yea! HE TOLD U!... no seriously though I do kung fu so i dont know anything about karate, but the whole head gear thing kinda takes the "full" out of the contact dont you agree?
you got it wrong. there are three types of contact which im aware of. no contact(self explanatory), light contact: its just sparring with touch and stuff... not even all that hard. and Full contact is where you start hitting hard. the contact is not about if they wear armor/safety gear but by how hard they hit.
yeah haha. mostly black belts and adults though. there are age limits for different types of contact. i know that 17 and up is full contact with red belt or higher. but thats just the martial arts that i am aware of like in Olympic Tae kwon do. i dont really like olympic tae kwon do... but its fun to watch. its to much kicking for me. haha
As far as I have been taught, traditional Zen-Do-Kai tournaments are usually full-body contact. And grapples are not allowed unless you are grappling for a kneeing or elbowing position.
Also, Katas have been employed extensively throughout Zen-Do-Kai. Katas are even a requirement for passing belt gradings.
I believe you are refering to the Austrial Zendokai started by Bob Jones in 1970. It has no relation to this Japanese Zendokai. I suggest you look on this website for more information: gaijindo dot com
We're actually both Zendokai students. Zendokai is similar to Kyokushin but less traditional, as is typically the case with MMAs. There are no kata and on the ground we practice BJJ grappling. As I mentioned, I'm not high enough of a rank to use grappling techniques in tournaments, so the fight stops when someone gets mount, side mount, guard, or if no one can firmly establish control.
looks more like a wrestling match
