I think this video right here was what inspired me to play this game. I didn't regret it. It's just plain fun. Too bad it never had a home port or anything, it's been buried in obscurity.
exelent ! i never saw this game, but i see they tried to do the POWER DRIFT trick on the track and it's surroundings. they even pan around the starting line like they do in PD :-) thanks for sharing this unknown game (for me it's unknown :-P)
I...I don't believe this! Two of my all time favorite cars are in this game! The mighty Ferrari F40 and the beautiful BMW 635 CSL! I don't think Polygons could have made this any better!!
Five months since posting a comment on this video previously, it shows up in my "Recommended for You" section. Never seen or played this game. It has to be pretty fun. I'm still totally spellbound with this game and how 3D is looks though this is a game from 1989. You don't seriously note the sprites until the rider hits the inside wall at 1:30. This is a testament to Sega's lovely use of sprites in games like Galaxy Force II, Power Drift, the After Burner series, the OutRun series, and others.
I played this in Central Station arcade in Warrington UK when it was out. The music is a f**ing great cheesey Sega special with that unique 80s sound. Yeah so... great story Grandad.
looks like they were trying a different approach by scaling the whole scene sprite including the road, instead of the technique in outrun where it was seperate. That explains the weird stripes on the road. They couldn't draw it diagonally like traffic because the scenery is static generated image.
My guess is that they used around 30 layers scaling after one other.
The phrase is that this game is LIKE Super Hang-On. This game is more like a more 3D-like version of Hang-On from an over-the-back view. Hang-On games are much faster than this, but it's very impressive. I've seen this YouTube video a number of times, and its quality still amazes me.
no, no, no! Racing hero never played well, never FELT right... even though it was X years after Hang-On. Not one of the good ones in the first batch of Neo-Geo cartridges. Nam '75 and Magician Lord were the first good ones. Then 1-2 years later came the beat'em up... and the rest is history.
Better buy a high powered graphics card. Apparently this is one of those sega arcade games that has more then one processor to handle different portions of the game.
Love that game. I can see that you're using digital steering. This game is best played with analog(Proportional) steering for better control in cornering. Used to play this on MAME a lot XD
it's like putting OutRun and Super Hang-On 2gether and coming up with this!!

Sega's System 32 hardware was definitely a beast to be reckoned with during it's time :)

When I was a little kid in the 80s, as with many games, I actually thought you could reach the city in the background and hang out there.
