ok, let me tell you something, you did great because 1. this is hard, and i know myself cause me and my friends do this. 2. You finished it, many of us quit halfway through 3. This is amazing, charachters, point n' click. leaves me speechless, Also consider publishing on Alice.org
@LemurLord12 Lol I believe there were no collision tests per se. I just registered the mouse clicks on the zombie as the rock animation gets called. Timed it right for the zombie to fall.
@Bardemoon For my project, I made a first person shooter, so you can make collision detectors by making recursive checks if an object is within a certain distance of another object, but it's very clunky and makes things run very slowly.
Umm this reply is probably too late, but the bird object has wing parts which you can rotate or turn together to simulate flapping. You would have to use a Do together routine that manipulates both wings at the same time.
Howd you get the girls to look at the squirrel while the program was still running. Im guessing u had 2 make a lot of methods to get this whole thing to run. Very nicely done.
all of that is triggered by the click on squirrel event. from memory, the pseudocode is something like this: squirrel.runToGirl() while { dotogether { girl.LookAtSquirrel() squirrel.moveforwardAtSomeSpeed() squirrel.turnAtSomeSpeed() } } squirrel.runToTheHills()
how do you make games with alice? i have the program too its a nice one. How did u get the dragon to fly? and how did u get the camra to follow the bird? sorry alot of questions and only one more question how do u get the lettring on the screen? thanks hope u answer.
Just keep in mind there's no such thing as gravity in the Alice world, unless you implement it. The dragon 'flies' by moving forward. I made it flap its wings by rotating or turning the wings in opposite directions at regular intervals. Adjusting the intervals makes the dragon look like its flapping or merely gliding, moving forward faster makes it look like its flying faster etc.
This is a little harder to explain. The camera isn't actually following the bird, it is always centered on an invisible cone object that is (sort of) following the bird.
The birds motion and the invisible cones motion is actually hard coded and rigorously tested ( about 1 hour ) to make it look decent.
Alot of the 'cinematic' scenes in my video use invisible cones as camera stands, as does the throw-stone-at-zombie mini game at the middle of my 2nd video.
The lettering on the screen is simply the camera saying something with the entire screen faded to black and the chatbox background color set to black and the text set to white.
I am assuming you're talking about the intro and transition screen text of course.
You can make simple games with alice yes but keep in mind Alice is pretty resource intensive.
The games in my 2 part video are all made with simple while loops and mouse click events. The tutorials in Alice are sufficient for the purposes of learning these two tools.
Everything else depends on your game's workability in the Alice environment. Sadly, if you want to make a face paced FPS or plane simulator look somewhere else, but an Asteroids or Tetris clone would be doable.
I actually haven't made any objects, the only one I tried to import made Alice crash. The fire actually comes from the online Alice database, lots more objects can be found there
Your video is great! I like the music close to the end. Was that music Darkri's music from pokemon? Also was this video made on Storytelling Alice or Alice 2.0

All game programming is tedious and time consuming. You have to hang in there!

I'm assuming you mean the part where the squirrel runs around the girl and the girl spins around to look at it while it is moving.
And yes, there are alot of methods in this project ;)
Bardemoon 3 years ago
Oh, didnt realize you clicked on the squirrel, that makes sense.

oh and how did u get the dragons feat to go up and down?
Igneousdragon 3 years ago
If you have studied object oriented programming, the dragon is an object that is made up of several other objects.
Basically, the dragon is made out of parts like its hands and feet which can be rotated or transformed according to what you need.
What you actually need to do to make the dragon's feet move is to look in the component parts of the dragon and rotate or turn whatever you need.
Likewise if you think the default models are too large or too small, you can resize them.

If you are talking about the first half of the project (this video) the eerie music is from Divi Dead.
The project was done on Alice 2.0, makes heavy use of events and loops
